To buy a £300 Christmas tree?

A Balsam Hill one.

I deeply dislike the look of fake trees usually which means we spend £50+ every year on a real one, which then spends January forlorn in the garden before we get round to chopping it up and getting rid of it. It’s a ball ache.

I’ve read lots of amazing things about the BH realistic ones, and I’ve seen one we like online but it’s £318! I don’t mind investing in it but I’ve never seen one in real life and I’d rather not chuck them £30 for a sample as that seems an utter pisstake.

Does anyone here have one? Do they look super real or is it hype? The reviews are good tbf but I wanted to canvas opinions before we commit to it.

My 10 year old one. Looks smaller on here but is very big.

To buy a £300 Christmas tree?
GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 19:26

I've done it!!! I'm sure I spent more time and energy choosing this tree than I did my actual children's names Grin

Got this one as it was bushier, heavier, 5" wider and 50 more lights than the one dh preferred. Went with heart instead of head as usual

Thank you sooooo much floralnomad for the 20% discount code, meant it came down to a mere £255 Grin I am so excited. Can't wait for it to arrive (might actually join the people I usually judge for putting up their trees in November haha).

@Pommes have you ordered yet??

MammaElf · 13/11/2017 19:42

Does anyone else have a 20% off code they wouldn’t mind pm’ing me with?! Pretty please!

PullUpsAreTricky · 13/11/2017 19:44

please can i have the discount code?

Bigkingdom · 13/11/2017 19:47

GoingRogue that was the tree we ordered last month, you won't be disappointed! Grin

Floralnomad · 13/11/2017 20:09

I think we should all post pictures once our new trees are up and decorated .

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 20:37

Bigkingdom ah yay, thanks for the reassurance...esp as I've just noticed it must be the only tree on the whole website that doesn't have any reviews?! Shock

Floralnomad absolutely! However, I have zero artistic style or flair for such things, so despite forking out hundreds of pounds for the tree, it will be covered in cheap gaudy, home-made by the small children (but oh so sentimental) tat! Blush I usually just throw it on and hope for the best Grin

Pommes · 13/11/2017 21:37

@Bridezilla2be you have saved me £71.60! Thank you very much. The code worked for both @GoingRogue and I. Are you happy for it to be posted on the thread for others too?

@Sriracha however cost me £286.40 because until yesterday I had absolutely no intention of buying an artificial tree! Smile

I also ordered the Balsam Fir tree, 6ft. I got a topper too because, well, I couldn’t resist. There are tree skirts available to buy from Next (as mentioned by a previous poster) so I ordered one of those for £25.

How is your son feeling now GoingRogue?

Pommes · 13/11/2017 21:42

Ooops I meant @CredulousThickos, the OP!

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 22:35

Pommes he is a bit better thanks, though just woke all shaky and scared after a nightmare Sad He's six, and not eaten anything since 7am when he had one Weetabix. Fingers crossed he gets we sleep tonight and is better tomorrow. Thanks for asking Smile

Ooh we have the same tree coming then?! Mine says I saved £63.80 (£319 down to £255.20).

My dh isn't long home and is NOT happy! He's muttering that it won't fit, and that we'll have to rearrange the whole house, and saying "don't tell my Mum we spent that much on such an extravagance!" Hmm Confused Shock Angry He's 39 btw...

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 22:47

Sorry, forgot to post the code in that little rant!

B52-9YNG-FW1R-P4P1

But I've a feeling it's a one-off one, and I know it expires at midnight tonight??

DH just apologised btw Grin

Pommes · 14/11/2017 06:57

@GoingRogue my additional saving was from the Noel Angel Tree Topper that I am soon to be proud owner of. Blush

I was worried about the width too, however if you click the little icon next to width on the chart it explains that ‘actual space taken’ is about 6in less than the declared width. My DH convinced me to go with the full tree.

Roussette · 14/11/2017 07:01

I was thinking on the tree skirt thing... rather than spend even more... I have a smallish red tartan rug (my decs are all colours and quite a lot of red)and I was thinking of draping it round the base and with presents there too, I can get away with it... or do I now have to go and buy a tree skirt....

My order has been shipped!

GoingRogue · 14/11/2017 07:18

@Pommes I can't see an icon? But after hours of deliberating, I have only just found the FAQ/Buyer's Guide section!! For anyone else...

www.balsamhill.co.uk/how-to-choose-the-right-artificial-tree#FTRACTS

Thanks so much for telling me about the six inch thing - it has made me relax more about it fitting Smile (though now thinking I could have got away with a 7ft haha!).

@Roussette how exciting that it has shipped already! I'm waiting until mine is here before looking at skirts or surrounds.

CiderwithBuda · 14/11/2017 09:05

I mentioned up thread that I bought a BH tree in July. DH wasn't impressed. Like most DHs it seems!

I mentioned this thread yesterday and mentioned that the tree I bought is 54 inches wide. He measured it out on our kitchen island. It's big! He's now not impressed again. Oh well.

It's going in a big curved bay window so I think it will be fine although we will have to move TV more that we do normally.

Main thing will be that the big beanbag that is currently in the bay window will move. Yellow lab won't be impressed. She lies there every evening and looks so comfy!

Roussette · 14/11/2017 11:10

Doorbell has just gone with the biggest heaviest box arriving.... now the fun starts testing it!

Floralnomad · 14/11/2017 11:30

Actually the fun starts when you try getting it back into that box , as they recommend bagging then boxing for protection , it doesn’t go back in the box . When we arrived we spent the next few days shopping for boxes big enough to fit it without squishing the lights too much .

Roussette · 14/11/2017 11:38

It works but by god there's a lot of shaping to do with pulling out of branches etc which they recommend doing with the lights on but they continually flicker when they are on and I fiddle with it. That's a job for another day when we actually properly put up the tree.

I was just worried about the size and phew phew it is absolutely fine, can't believe it's 56inch wide, it is bigger than our last one but not too big

Floralnomad · 14/11/2017 12:24

The code that GoingRogue printed up thread is now apparently valid until midnight on the 15th , although I’m not sure is it was single use , if anybody is still wanting to try it .

MammaElf · 14/11/2017 14:50

I just tried the code and it’s not working :(

GoingRogue · 14/11/2017 15:03

MammaElf oh no! Maybe they are one-off ones?

Fingers crossed someone else has one they can give you soon.

EastDulwichWife · 14/11/2017 15:05

I have never liked fake trees. These BH ones actually look really good...

CredulousThickos · 14/11/2017 16:32

Ours is here! Don’t think we’ll have time to put it up tonight though.

OP posts:
GoingRogue · 14/11/2017 16:38

@CredulousThickos ... you can't do that to us! C'mon, sure you can find half an hour somewhere?!

Roussette · 14/11/2017 16:53

I just wanted to check mine worked! Because apparently you should report all faults within 7 days. It's sat in a darkened room at the moment waiting for attention because I can't be arsed to put it away Grin
