A Balsam Hill one.

I deeply dislike the look of fake trees usually which means we spend £50+ every year on a real one, which then spends January forlorn in the garden before we get round to chopping it up and getting rid of it. It’s a ball ache.

I’ve read lots of amazing things about the BH realistic ones, and I’ve seen one we like online but it’s £318! I don’t mind investing in it but I’ve never seen one in real life and I’d rather not chuck them £30 for a sample as that seems an utter pisstake.

Does anyone here have one? Do they look super real or is it hype? The reviews are good tbf but I wanted to canvas opinions before we commit to it.

GoingRogue I got the St Moritz. I liked it because of the fir cones. And to be honest, without too much fluffing, the shape was quite irregular with all sorts of bits sticking out and I thought it looked a bit more natural. See if you prefer it a little unfluffed?

Roussette · 15/11/2017 21:53

The one thing I'd say is... I'm not sure how much fluffing you can do to make it look dense. I've fluffed it out as much as I can (with the lights flickering on and off!) and I can still see the radiator through it so whilst I'm not disappointed, I just feel it isn't as full and thick as I expected. However, when it's lit up (when I'm holding it) it does look fab and bearing in mind there are no decs on it, it'll look pretty crowded with all our stuff on it!

sueelleker · 15/11/2017 22:19

I am seriously thinking of buying one. Can someone tell me, when it says width 40" is that the width or the diameter? I couldn't find it listed under FAQ.

Roussette · 15/11/2017 22:26

Mine is 56inches and I can honestly say it doesnt seem it and TBH I doubt it is. It's the width at the biggest point which is the bottom branches.

CiderwithBuda · 16/11/2017 10:14

Slightly worried by Roussette's experience as ours came in July and we haven't opened it yet. Eek.

Floralnomad · 16/11/2017 11:24

We opened ours in July and set it up without all the fluffing just to check the bulbs and did have a few out . However it does say that the lights are guaranteed for 5 yrs so it shouldn’t be an issue if there is a problem except they may not be able to replace it close to Christmas I suppose .

Rebeccaslicker · 16/11/2017 12:14

Damn this thread. I looked at them and really want one. They look nice and I don't really approve of cutting down so many trees every year. And you can't plant every live one, you'd end up in a forest!

DP has flatly denied it, saying only real will do. So the OP is not unreasonable, but my DP is!

Candlesonthetable · 16/11/2017 12:38

We got one last year (not BH but similar) and after I initially fluffed it I was disappointed. But after another hour of fluffing and after it was decorated it looked amazing. Much better than our cheap fake tree and better than the real trees we would butcher to get to the right height/shape. However I also added more lights even though it was prelit. I work on 100 lights per foot so I added another 300 lights to get it to the 'right' number.

It was the first time I felt our tree had the 'wow' factor I had always been aiming for. It was the same decorations, just a different tree.

usernotfound0000 · 16/11/2017 13:09

We ordered one in the sale that just ended, ordered on Tuesday and it's arrived today. A friend has one and it looks gorgeous. If it does us 10 years then it's money well spent (ours was actually only £239).

KipperBalloon · 16/11/2017 13:38

Has anyone on here ordered the European Fir?

Greypaw · 16/11/2017 14:01

I'm sitting here itching to order a Berkshire Mountain fir which I think will go in my hallway. The width they quote is the diameter, isn't it? If anyone has a discount code they can PM me I'd be terribly, terribly grateful...

longdaysandpleasantnights · 16/11/2017 15:03

Kipper I have! It’s just arrived and I’ve set it up, there’s no way I’m going to floof it all up now though, it’s going to take ages! It’s the 6.5 foot one.

The first photo is it just set up, no fluffing, and the second photo is the top which I have ‘shaped’ a bit.

@Roussette have you looked at the videos on their site to see how to correctly fluff the branches? Ooh er missus, that sounds like an awful euphemism!

@Greypaw perhaps if you sign up for the newsletter or something, they might send you the email today for the Family & Friends 20% discount that ends tonight. It's an individual code but you could check further back in this thread to see if any of the codes previously mentioned have not been used. Think a couple of posters put up their codes yesterday that they weren't using.

GoingRogue · 16/11/2017 15:54

@Greypaw I don't think anyone has used the one I posted at 11.45 yesterday? It's this one...

northernlassy · 16/11/2017 16:18

I tried to use code last night which worked but I didn’t check out argh! Phoned customer services and they won’t honour 20% discount 🙁 today. Anyone have a valid code I could use please??

GoingRogue · 16/11/2017 17:53

@northernlassy my code? Might explain why it won't work for others then...

northernlassy · 16/11/2017 18:59

They told me all codes expired at midnight last night

GoingRogue · 16/11/2017 19:58

Well they told you wrong...it is the 16th today right?!

Roussette · 16/11/2017 20:34

Betty I've fluffed and floofed and watched videos and am getting a bit obsessed which is ridiculous as half the tree isn't lit up and I haven't had my replacement ho hum!

northernlassy · 16/11/2017 21:04

Yep you are totally right!

northernlassy · 16/11/2017 21:10

Looks like we are destined to have another real tree this year if I can’t get it with the discount 😕

MammaElf · 16/11/2017 21:56

Northern try my code - B47-8239-9P1Y-FYP3

GoingRogue · 16/11/2017 22:40

Gah. Now having a debate with dh, as he thinks midnight on the 16th was 00.00 this morning, hence the code won't work?! I think surely "midnight on the 16th" means midnight tonight...

northernlassy · 16/11/2017 22:44

Thanks so much MammaElf - it worked!! 😊

GoingRogue · 16/11/2017 22:54

@northernlassy yay! Welcome to the club Grin Which one did you go for?
