To buy a £300 Christmas tree?

A Balsam Hill one.

I deeply dislike the look of fake trees usually which means we spend £50+ every year on a real one, which then spends January forlorn in the garden before we get round to chopping it up and getting rid of it. It’s a ball ache.

I’ve read lots of amazing things about the BH realistic ones, and I’ve seen one we like online but it’s £318! I don’t mind investing in it but I’ve never seen one in real life and I’d rather not chuck them £30 for a sample as that seems an utter pisstake.

Does anyone here have one? Do they look super real or is it hype? The reviews are good tbf but I wanted to canvas opinions before we commit to it.

A big nooooooooo from me! I love real trees!

I think they might be more carbon-neutral too? (Though obviously much depends on whether they are locally grown or not).

Bridezilla2be · 13/11/2017 12:51

@Pommes you’re very welcome, I will need photos of the tree in return so I can live out my Christmas dreams through you though! Grin

Roussette · 13/11/2017 12:54

Going rogue This was my problem! There was no narrow 6.5ft lit in the most realistic category which is what I wanted because if I'm gonna do this I want it as realistic as possible! Hence my 56 inches eeeeek. I think 6ft is too short (our current ancient one is taller than my husband so it must be 6.5, and 7ft is a bit too tight with our ceiling height)

Floralnomad · 13/11/2017 13:15

GoingRogue , that code should have worked I’ve just had another email that says it’s valid until midnight tonight .

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 13:25

@Pommes go ahead and use the one you've been sent by Bridezilla2be

My research and ordering has been put on hold as am at our local Urgent Care Centre with ds1 (who was crying with a headache, temp of 39.5 which wasn't going down with Calpol, didn't like bright lights and had cold hands and feet...but has now perked right up!).

Roussette · 13/11/2017 14:21

Fingers crossed he is OK rogue

Allthebestnamesareused · 13/11/2017 15:06

Hello zeebeedee ! Will do

We got a Balsam Hill one last year and it really is lovely. I was wavering as it seemed so expensive. But we were spending £60/70 on a real tree in our area and I’d hope we’ll make the money back eventually.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 13/11/2017 16:22

I just got me a lovely 4' Christmas tree. 🌲🌲🌲

Cheers OP for starting this fred. I have been wanting a new tree for years but never found what I was looking for. Just got to break it to DH now as he thinks our £4.99 Woolworths one that we have had for 20 years is perfectly good enough. the fool

Roussette · 13/11/2017 16:26

As much as I should really be waiting until January sales, I just want to get the old one to the charity shop and I can't wait for my now adult DCs to see the new one! It doesn't matter how old they get, they still love it and the same rituals apply, like putting the feathered robin on the tree which they take it in turns to do..

Nothing's changed except we're all pissed on homemade cocktails by this point

Roussette · 13/11/2017 16:27

Allthebest your tree looks great!

Wilburissomepig · 13/11/2017 16:45

I bought a 7ft BH tree about 4 years ago for £250 In the sale and it's gorgeous. So real looking and I love it!

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 17:51

Roussette worry not, I've been looking at their sales since this time last year, and 40% is the most they ever offer on the bulk of the trees from what I can tell.

I'm back from the hospital (ds diagnosed with a virus and seems a bit better).

So as they say on the Apprentice "the search continues...".

DH is about to divorce me if I talk to him about Christmas trees again. He is adamant 50" is way too wide for our corner (have attached pic; the green stickies show 6ft, 6.5ft and 7ft height markers!).

Which means I have to get a 6ft 45" width, and narrows it down to basically the Norway Spruce (there are five others but I don't like the look of them). But I've been comparing the amount of tips you get with that compared to a 6ft BH Fir (50" width...what is 5" really?! Grin) which I love the look of. dh prefers the narrower Norway Spruce as its £90 cheaper too; £239 instead of £319.

Have attached comparison photo grids. I'm now down to the final two...really want to order this tonight with the 20% offer code I have sitting quietly in my inbox!

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme which one did you get? And my dh is the same! Can't see anything wrong with the 15yr old Argos one his ex-wife chose Hmm

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 13/11/2017 18:34

It was either that or the Nordman. Went for this one as I liked the pine cones.

I have just told DH. He didn't take it too well Blush

Bigkingdom · 13/11/2017 18:42

I ordered out Balsam Hill tree at the end of October, it came within days and is absolutely gorgeous! We ordered a prelit one as i hate putting lights on trees and worse, trying to take them off!

Roussette · 13/11/2017 18:52

And I hate that we get the lights out every year and have 3 sets and then 1 or 2 strings don't work arghhhh

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 19:02

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme sorry your dh didn't take it too well! These men don't understand sometimes Grin

Floralnomad · 13/11/2017 19:03

My dh was humouring me when we bought ours but he’s an absolute convert now . We also had a 20yr old Argos tree previously which he couldn’t see an issue with , annoyed me every year .

ButtMuncher · 13/11/2017 19:18

We bought a £200 Next one last year. After 15 years of buying shit fake ones I wanted something better and could afford it for once. It's honestly so beautiful Blush
