A Balsam Hill one.

I deeply dislike the look of fake trees usually which means we spend £50+ every year on a real one, which then spends January forlorn in the garden before we get round to chopping it up and getting rid of it. It’s a ball ache.

I’ve read lots of amazing things about the BH realistic ones, and I’ve seen one we like online but it’s £318! I don’t mind investing in it but I’ve never seen one in real life and I’d rather not chuck them £30 for a sample as that seems an utter pisstake.

Does anyone here have one? Do they look super real or is it hype? The reviews are good tbf but I wanted to canvas opinions before we commit to it.

What tree looks best from the Balsam Hill ones - can’t get to anywhere near to see what they are like

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/11/2017 17:05

I posted too soon - I meant to say that my parents decided to get an artificial tree, when I was about 11, and mum decided that they’d get a silver one - her thinking was that, as the artificial trees available back then weren’t anywhere near as good as they are now, she wanted a tree that was clearly intended to be artificial, not one that was trying to be a real one and failing - but that really isn’t an issue now, because there are such good artificial ones available.

Of course, you could do what ds2 did in his first year at university, and buy a pink, sparkly tree!

This is my balsam Hill tree that I bought in the sale in 2015. It’s a prelit one and touch wood has been fine every year. Little on the short side, think it was 5ft (which is why it is on top of a little table haha).

I had no problems with balsam hill but as I said that was July 2015!

Balsam Hill trees are amazing. You get what you pay for. Check the dimensions of the big ones though, the size of the six foot above come up very large on the width.

Impostress99 · 11/11/2017 17:12

Oh gosh I’ve just ordered one after reading this!

owthathurts · 11/11/2017 17:14

I would be interested to find out which type people have gone with. They all look lovely!

Etymology23 · 11/11/2017 17:16

Deffo be careful with storage though, we had nice nest in our stored fake tree once!

BH?

MsHarry · 11/11/2017 17:24

Never heard of them. I'm sure you don't need to spend anywhere near that to get a realistic looking one.

jenandjess · 11/11/2017 17:24

We ‘invested’ in a pre-lit Balsam Hill lady year. It’s gorgeous. If you can afford it, go for it!

Sriracha · 11/11/2017 17:25

Thanks so much for this thread. We've been searching for a nice tree and after seeing this I have just ordered a Fraser fir, it looks lovely.

If you use code UKBH25 you get an extra £25 off if you spend over £299 as well.

MsHarry · 11/11/2017 17:25

I like a real Norman Fir and DH prefers artificial. we alternate each year. my heart does sink when it's his turn. I love all the extra foliage you get with a real one. I cut the lowest branches off and decorate the mantlepiece and banisters with them, adding pines cones and fairy light plus the smell can't be beaten.

MsHarry · 11/11/2017 17:26

Nordman!

CredulousThickos · 11/11/2017 17:32

Thank you for the code!

I’ve had one for almost 20 years (different brand but an expensive one) sadly it died last Christmas because I somehow set fire to it

PovertyPain · 11/11/2017 17:43

Am I the only one who wondered when Blossom Hill started doing Xmas trees? 😳 Must stop obsessing over wine.

Grumpyoldwoman007 · 11/11/2017 17:44

I was always in the real tree camp but as they have become more and more expensive I finally decided to invest in a BH tree. It cost £200 3 years ago. It looks really real and is easy to assemble and disassemble. No needles to clear up after and no dead tree sitting in the garden for the whole of January and it pops away in the loft until its needed again. I have no regrets 😊

Barbie222 · 11/11/2017 17:47

Had real ones for years and one year my tree was full of beetles. Vacuuming them all out of the presents on Christmas Day. Got a lovely fake one from John Lewis and never looked back. I do buy a couple of decent scented baubles though to get the atmosphere. The Balsam Hill trees look lovely and if it lasts 5-5 years it will be the same cost as real.

EmilyChambers79 · 11/11/2017 17:48

We replaced our artificial tree last year. Our old one was 30 years old. We spent £300 on a 7ft pre lit tree and it looks lovely. Hopefully we get another 30 years from this one!

SadClown · 11/11/2017 17:48

Foxyloxy that's was our problem, couldn't get a narrow enough one for our tiny house from BH. owthathurts I'm up in the loft tomorrow so I'll check which make ours is and post again.

PovertyPain · 11/11/2017 17:54

I was just thinking about Xmas trees yesterday. They're gorgeous. It took me soooo long to pick a hotel to stay in Liverpool. Now I HAVE to pick a tree. At this rate I'll have no money for Xmas. 😁

Floralnomad · 11/11/2017 18:00

For anybody buying do take note of the widths from Balsam Hill , we went for a narrow Fraser fir and its 48” at the widest point , which is wider than our last not narrow tree .

Allthebestnamesareused · 11/11/2017 18:04

We have a BH prelit one too

PovertyPain · 11/11/2017 18:15

Thanks for pointing that out, Flora. I usually end up taking a few branches of the lower back, so mine fits.
