How can that bumbling baffoon still be in a job? How does he not have the guts to fully apologise, instead of that well rehearsed speech that avoided the crucial word sorry, and more to the point why is he not in Iran trying to speak directly to the Iranian government?

He is teflon. The Brexiteers don't care about 'an Iranian'. Boris can do no wrong. TM knows he's the PM-in-waiting.

MusterMark · 10/11/2017 12:16

"And I think that for some reason she can't sack him"

Brexit will be a disaster. Who will be held responsible for it? The government. If Boris is sacked he will be able to say, "if I had been in charge then it would have gone much better." May is shackled to Boris and the other brexiteers.

ShiftyMcGifty · 10/11/2017 12:16

"Shifty thinks she's an Iranian citizen and it's crazy to suggest the UK "does" something while she's in her home country.

This is a pretty niche view then. Even stupid-o Boris doesn't think that."

I don't think. It is a fact.

It may be a niche opinion on this forum but one that is shared by both the UK and Iranian governments.

Fruitcorner123 · 10/11/2017 12:23

TM is a disgrace for not sacking him immediately and going public with a statement saying he was wrong. Just confirms tht she is compasionless and only cares about her own career.

kali110 · 10/11/2017 12:30

DB22 thankyou! Everything i looked at never explained it and i never wanted to ask incase it came across that i didn't believe.
I've read how she is being treated and i cant begin to think how i would cope.

Fruitcorner123 · 10/11/2017 13:00

Anyone who thinks those words were in any way going to help her, whilst being in a position of Foreign Secretary, is bloody stupid at best.

I dont think he thought that. I think he just doesn't care and says what he wants. Either that or there is some darker motive attached to relations with Iran. We are naive if we think he is just some blundering idiot. He is clever and has the high level qualifications to prove it. He does what he wants because he's made it this far without being seriously challenged. TM should be challenging him but she hasn't got what it takes.

JonSnowsWife · 10/11/2017 13:06

TM should be challenging him but she hasn't got what it takes.

She won't. Because she's worried the minute she does, she'll be calling another GE.

LouiseBrooks · 10/11/2017 13:14

I used to work for part of the FCO and often they are hopeless in situations like this. It's all about keeping it out of the headlines if possible as they don't want to upset foreign regimes.

As for Johnson, he's a disgrace. He may well have been "clever" at school but in every other way he behaves like an idiot without any common sense or decency.

brasty · 10/11/2017 13:15

He is clever, but very very lazy.

OnionShite · 10/11/2017 13:30

THIS is the danger of having dual citizenship - it’s all nice when things go right, but does mean you have virtually no rights when the shit hits the fan.

Actually if anything, the dual citizenship might well have helped here. It's being Iranian that's the problem. Gives that appalling government free rein over her.

Had she only held a spousal visa in the UK rather than full citizenship, things could've been even worse (the Iranian regime has done plenty worse to innocent people than put them in solitary confinement). Being British might well have been a protective factor. I'm not sure if Iran even have a procedure for renouncing citizenship, but if she had, and the regime wanted her in prison, they wouldn't have let a little thing like that stop them. The Iranians are a wonderful people with a filthy government.

I'm also interested to hear more about how this wasn't Boris being stupid, whoever claimed that- is anyone suggesting it was deliberate then?!

MissFlashpants · 10/11/2017 13:41

Boris is a fucking psychpath. He has traded a little girl's childhood with her parents for his job.

And May is a fucking psycopath for allowing him to do it, to save her job.

I'm disgusted with how this last year has turned out. This government is a shambling pit of careerist ignorant evil bastards. History won't judge them well, in any single regard.

Boris has been extremely clumsy here, and hasn't helped the poor woman at all. However the real villain here is Iran. People seem to forget this when they see a gaping open net, primed for some tory bashing.

brasty · 10/11/2017 14:38

More than clumsy from the bloody Foreign Secretary.

endofthelinefinally · 10/11/2017 14:42

It is obvious (to me anyway) that TM only made Boris Home secretary so she could see him/keep him in the public eye.
Poor Nazanin and her family are just collateral damage.
This government care for nothing and nobody but themselves.

DB22 · 10/11/2017 15:52

Of course Iran is at fault here but this thread is about BJs part in this. The fact he's a tory is by the by. It's his great big mouth and ineptitude that's the issue.

OP posts:
endofthelinefinally · 10/11/2017 16:01

I think TM knew very well that his big mouth and ineptitude would be risky - especially to vulnerable people in difficulties abroad. But I think she put self interest first.

Itsanicehotel · 10/11/2017 16:32

He is a liability at home and downright dangerous abroad. Making him the Foreign Secretary is reckless and ridiculous. He has made a grim situation worse. He has the diplomacy of a toddler and he may be able to order a pint in Latin, but he is a train wreck in a Post that needs sensitivity, analytical thinking, tact and common sense. TM doesn’t seem to give a shit that he is blundering around the globe pissing people off and wreaking havoc. But as has been said, TM darednt sack him on the grounds she needs to keep her enemies close. Am so angry and frustrated for this poor family.

Indeed, this thread is about Boris. The vast majority of people here, aside from a couple of stupid cunts/paid Iranian regime internet patsies absolutely get that Iran are behaving appallingly. But there's not really anything more to say than that, so it wouldn't make a very exciting thread.

ChoccyJules · 10/11/2017 19:01

How do back-benchers represent a threat to the PM then? Would he be actively getting colleagues to vote against the govt, that kind of thing? Cos I would imagine most would bow to the whips and think of their careers. I have always thought that making him foreign secretary was a pretty large thing to do just to stop him being a lowly PM.

ChoccyJules · 10/11/2017 19:02

A lowly MP I mean.

nomad5 · 10/11/2017 19:31

This poor woman and her family are pawns in political games in two countries.

I know someone who worked with this lady. She was absolutely NOT doing anything political etc. She was just visiting her family. I have a DD a similar age and it breaks my heart to think of what they're all going through.

God Boris is such a shit. Please can we swap him for Nazarin.

meditrina · 10/11/2017 21:11

"Shifty thinks she's an Iranian citizen and it's crazy to suggest the UK "does" something while she's in her home country."

This is wrong. FCO publishes that help to dual nationals in the country of their other nationality is highly limited, often impossible. It's included in the Travel Advice. And it's not just a British view, it's international standard.
