How can that bumbling baffoon still be in a job? How does he not have the guts to fully apologise, instead of that well rehearsed speech that avoided the crucial word sorry, and more to the point why is he not in Iran trying to speak directly to the Iranian government?

She's an Iranian citizen and it's crazy to suggest the UK "does" something while she's in her home country.

I very much doubt it. Her grandparents are beside themselves, it was reported yesterday that the grandmother collapsed when she heard what Botis had say, when it was reported on Iranian TV.

Also the only time the baby gets to see her mother is when she visits her in prison. Her mum is kept in solitary confinement. No matter how mich she tries, I suspect those visits are pretty awful for everyone.

Shifty Nazanin is also a British citizen, altbough that's not recognised by the Iranians. I would hope if I was being illegally held in Iran that as a British Citizen, my government would do something. By which I mean negotiate and agree, not interfere I their laws as such.

For most of us when British citizens are unlawfully imprisoned overseas then this is a job for the foreign office. Not for everyone, clearly.

I meant 'nice' as in she has family there and they will be working bloody hard to give her a as normal a life as possible. Obviously - the situation stinks to high heaven. Sorry, my thoughts weren't quite formulated this morning.

She has dual nationality but Iran doesn't recognise this.

I can see why TM can't sack Boris but ffs, she coukd surely have a reshuffle and make him Minister with the portfolio for stationery purchasing or something, where its not so easy for him to ruin lives.

No no, I've family there and family who was brought up there.

I know people think of it as a black hole (pre revolution, amazing - post, well...) but people there really do go over gaga for children, grandmas will swoon over news good and bad, and this little girl will have a flock of clucking aunties and uncles around her and cousins to play with.

And I think that for some reason she can't sack him. I haven't worked it out yet- either she wants to keep him close so she can give him a kicking for the whole brexit thing (by just st letting him open his mouth in public and shoving his foot in it), or maybe he's got some dirt!

I don’t see it as “us interfering in another country’s laws”. Iran are in the UN so should follow the UN declaration of human rights. There is no way this has happened for Nazanin (or many others in Iranian jails). We can all speak out for anyone who is denied their human rights.

I've followed Nazanins story with horror from the beginning. Its horrendous that they can leave a British citizen rotting in jail like that and do very little about it. Boris clearly hadn't even bothered to follow her case or read the brief even. It's a total nightmare. What he's done is a crime. She could have been released early and now is facing another 8.5 yrs in jail because of that mans stupidity. I think I would feel like giving up. When people say Boris is smart, what are they talking about? I have seen zero evidence of even a spark of intelligence. He seems to thick to even own up to this catastrophic mistake.
