How can that bumbling baffoon still be in a job? How does he not have the guts to fully apologise, instead of that well rehearsed speech that avoided the crucial word sorry, and more to the point why is he not in Iran trying to speak directly to the Iranian government?

The Michael Gove interview was dreadful. He said he didn’t know what she was doing in Iran but if her husband said she was on holiday, then she was on holiday.

He couldn't have made it sound more like he disbelieved the holiday explanation. It had the tone of a ‘Aye right, we’ll go with that, shall we?’

Uptheduffy · 12/11/2017 16:32

Shifty, surely the issue is not that she should be treated differently because she has dual citizenship but that she should be treated fairly because she has human rights?

Uptheduffy · 12/11/2017 16:34

Yeah I can’t imagine why a woman with a young child whose parents live in a different country would want to visit them in that county, unless also plotting a bit of regime-change while she was there.

Gottagetmoving · 12/11/2017 16:40

I just want to know why May can't bring herself to sack the incompetent fool.
No one in their right mind would keep him in that job.
There's something weird going on where he is concerned.

Grimbles · 12/11/2017 16:47

Lol Boris worra ledge.

Oh, wait...

Humpsfor20yards · 12/11/2017 20:14

Arron banks brexiteer funder says 'nothing to do with gove or Johnson, it's her own silly fault for going there, dopey(?)'

Nice people.

SpaceOpera · 12/11/2017 22:17

Mumsnet - time for you to get officially involved. Pressure May to bring her and the daughter home, pressure Corbyn to bring them home. Don’t bash the government- her husband said he doesn’t want instability - he just wants them home. It’s time for the power that is Mumsnet to do its utmost to reunite this mother with her family.

MassDebate · 13/11/2017 07:14

Couldn't agree more SpaceOpera

DB22 · 13/11/2017 08:38

Great idea, but how? Petition?

I just heard her husband on the radio. He is the best example of restrain and control. He was asked about BJ and basically said this wasn't about him making political comment, but all about getting Nazanin home. I truly admire him and wish I had half of his control.

VikingVolva · 13/11/2017 08:49

Her husband probably knows considerably more about what FCO is doing that anyone else commenting in public on it.

What I would like to see now is journos refraining from playing 'gotcha' with any more ministers (especially those who would know nothing about the case - it's sod all to do with environment food and rural affairs).

LakieLady · 13/11/2017 08:55

I saw her husband on tv. He is everything Boris Bloody Johnson is not: thoughtful, considered, diplomatic.

He must be so worried for his wife and daughter (Nazanin has lumps in her breasts) but managed to be calm and measured.

The FO should be working to find a way for the Iranian government to let her come home without loss of face, eg humanitarian or health grounds. Boris has made that much harder with his idiotic remark and Gove was no help either.

Boris' arrogance is just breathtaking imo - failing to even meet with the man - and it bears out stories I've heard from a friend who has a family member in the Foreign Office. The general impression is that he is someone who never does his homework.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 13/11/2017 09:18

lakie and viking I was just typing a response about comparing Naz**n"s husband with Boris and Gove and that septic bellend Aaron whatshisname .
Read this from Richard and contrastbit with tje fucking unbelievable crap being spouted by our elected representatives. it's heartbreaking that lives of people are destroyed by fucking egomaniac psychopaths.

Love that idea spaceopera .i doubt mn will go near a campaign in an official way...this is a different MN these days. But there is nothing to stop a group of people meeting on hete initially and going off to support the family.
It's so bloody heartbreaking.was thinking about pp comment about Alerts to Tehran and probably ineffectually tjought I should somehow block out her name. Doubt it would fool more than the cursory of glances though.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 13/11/2017 09:21

DB22 thank you for starting this thread. I needed reminding about N and her family. Blush

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 13/11/2017 09:24

Not reminded about her per se, more reminded to do something more than just think about her and the many others like her everywhere. I might find a link to Amnesty Christmas Shop or something .

Leaving thread now, I promise.

Humpsfor20yards · 13/11/2017 09:27

It sounds silly but what about a co-ordinated postcard campaign? - does Nazanin get post there does anyone know? 1000s of postcards might let her know that she is not forgotten/help raise her spirits/show the powers there that the world is watching.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 13/11/2017 09:38

@humpsfor20yards love love love that idea

Mumto2two · 13/11/2017 10:29

Much as I sympathise with this lady's unfortunate position, there is nobody here to blame, but her home country's appaling regime. As an Iranian herself, having acquired British nationality through marriage, it is a tad trite to point any semblance of blame at our nation, bumbling blonde boffins and all!
My cousin had children from a similarly mixed marriage, and knew full well the risks of ever travelling to her husband's homeland. Her husband often visited, but never took the kids. The grandparents visited on occasion, because that was the sensible thing to do. Surely people who have grown up in a country like this, know only too well what their regimes are capable of.
I'm sorry, that's just my opinion.
And having said all that, I do hope the situation is resolved soon.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/11/2017 10:46

He isn’t a bumbling baffoon at all but he certainly fucked up here

Have heard Nazanin’s husband Richard being interviewed a number of times. There is so little information on why she was arrested and the trial the United Nations have called for her release a number of times

I think it’s long overdue that politicians got involved in the case but they should be researching before making public announcements

As for Boris he is like Teflon and he holds too much power I doubt he shall be sacked keeping you enemies close is sensible for May

Mumto2two · 13/11/2017 10:55

It's a difficult case though, when you're dealing with a country like Iran. They have deduced what they believe to be true, based on whatever notions of reality & justice they have over there. And what do we know? Her family say she was on holiday....so it must be true then.

Marcipex · 13/11/2017 11:00

She was on holiday.

Who said she did

It wasn’t a charge that we haven’t had any details about

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/11/2017 11:07

'He isn't a bumbling buffoon'.

Don't put that to the vote
