How can that bumbling baffoon still be in a job? How does he not have the guts to fully apologise, instead of that well rehearsed speech that avoided the crucial word sorry, and more to the point why is he not in Iran trying to speak directly to the Iranian government?

That's the regime - not the people.

The revolution was the Brexit/trump of its day - people (intelligent, professional people - even armed forces) just couldn't see it happen and were shocked when it did. It really was the pitchfork weilders revolution.

The army was told to stand down to prevent more bloodshed. It is tolerated (not much else they can do) by the majority - generations have been lost to emigration.

I'm sure having her daughter within some reach brings her a tiny piece of mind. She will be safe with her grandparents and can at least visit her mummy, despite the situation.

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 15/11/2017 19:50

The daughter gets to visit weekly, I can understand why she is still there.

Fekko · 15/11/2017 19:52

That little girl probably brings her - and the other inmates who see her - so much joy (and heartbreak). I hope to God she gets out soon and brings her home. I worry for her parents though - the regime is vindictive.

LouiseBrooks · 15/11/2017 19:53

I think Gabriella can leave now but she couldn't originally. Her (British) passport was confiscated - she does not have dual nationality. I think the rationale now is that Nazanin is allowed occasional visits from her parents and the child and her husband think helps her mental state to see the child.

MissEliza · 15/11/2017 19:53

Even if Gabriella is free to leave today, the Iranian government could change their minds at any time. It’s unthinkable to imagine that she may grow up there.

Fekko · 15/11/2017 19:54

I guess her dad could bring her home when he visits but I guess he won't. At least he can call and Skype her every day.

Interesting. I have just seen a newspaper article saying the UK government may pay the £450m they allegedly owe Iran. Not as a random but to to Tey and ease relations. TBH, if the UK so owe this then of course they should pay. I has heard this was possibly the reason Nazanin was imprisoned. If this is the case then I really hope they do pay and that Nazanin and Gabriella get home soon.

I think that the background to the situation with Iran is possibly why apart from both David Cameron and subsequently Theresa May wrote to request Nazanin's release. It would appear that the funds for the outstanding debt are being held in an international account and have bee withheld due to Iranian actions.
Richard has already confirmed that the advice given to him was softly softly approach. There are several dual nationals held in Iran. The government would have listened to th

Posted too soon.
The government would have sought advice from the senior civil servants running the Diplomatic Service. Richard's determination to publicise Nazanin's detention and the circumstance of their daughter being deprived of both her parents was why Boris became involved and he may not have been fully informed. Let's hope he is successful in persuading the Iranian authorities to release Nazanin and others detained.

MassDebate · 16/11/2017 21:14

Gabriella can only leave Iran with one of her parents. Richard has been denied a visa to date so can't go to Iran to get her. Also, they believe Gabriella's visits are the only thing keeping Nazanin going so Richard has said he will not take her away from Nazanin (at least while there's still hope of her release).
