to ask why is it acceptable to say you hate kids?

Prompted by a certain female comedien saying this (whom I love btw!), it seems that it is the last taboo. By all means say you are not a child-person, you don't want kids etc but HATE them? You wouldn't be able to say that about any other group of people (and kids are people), so why do people say it about children?

If the OP yearns for people to like them

I wish people would actually read what I have written instead of extrapolating to what they mistakenly believe this post is about. I really don't care whether you love children, I am simply asking whether it is acceptable to express hate for a large, non-homogenous group of people.

So children = vegetables, now?!! Funny.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/10/2017 15:37

I assume it’s kind of shorthand for ‘fuck me aren’t they annoying little twats in a group, Christ listen to the noise they make, why is that one eating his fucking bogies!’

And who wouldn’t have sympathy with that perspective.Grin

Melondramatic · 16/10/2017 15:37

So you hate people who are grubby and uninteresting?

RoseWhiteTips · 16/10/2017 15:37

OP, you cannot dictate the way the direction this lofty debate will take.

Melondramatic · 16/10/2017 15:38

they annoying little twats in a group, Christ listen to the noise they make, why is that one eating his fucking bogies!

I can get with that Laurie

RoseWhiteTips · 16/10/2017 15:38

OP, you cannot dictate the direction this lofty debate will take.

Melondramatic · 16/10/2017 15:40

Yes shatners, kids are ignorant Confused...because they are kids
(I'm using 'ignorant' in its true sense, rather than a barbed insult)

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/10/2017 15:40

Cappuccinoloverr - yeah, it’s when they hit 6 and start saying “You can’t tell me what to do because you’re not my teacher.” and you have to be all grown up and rise above it.... I never helped out again!

Obviously my own DS is an absolute delight who is universally adored Wink

allegretto · 16/10/2017 15:40

OP, you cannot dictate the direction this lofty debate will take.

True, but I can point out when you have misunderstood what I have written.

RoseWhiteTips · 16/10/2017 15:42

All thus pointing out stuff must get tedious. Are you a classroom assistant?

RoseWhiteTips · 16/10/2017 15:42

this

banivani · 16/10/2017 15:44

The blanket statement "I love kids" is also illogical and stupid, but it isn't obnoxious and rude. It may be attention-seeking, but rarely IMO as much as "I hate kids" is. People who say the latter are not willing to meet people as individuals with individual needs and personalities, and those kind of people are not the nicest to be around.

Darkstar4855 · 16/10/2017 15:46

It's not acceptable to some people. It is acceptable to others.

I'm not sure what more than that the OP is expecting to get out of this debate!

CliffRichardsPenIs · 16/10/2017 15:47

I agree with this completely.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/10/2017 15:47

allegretto toddlers are needy, of course they are, they can't care for themselves, they are also grubby, as in putting fingers up noses, in their nappies, eating soil, they interrupt/cry which is annoying.
It's just how they are, I get it, I've been there, I don't like it.
It doesn't mean I'm horrible to them, I just would rather not be in their company.

allegretto · 16/10/2017 15:48

Rose - if you don't want me to pick up on something you have written wrongly about me then don't write my name or OP in your comment. It's not hard. No, I'm not a classroom assistant. Are you a plumber?

*It's not acceptable to some people. It is acceptable to others

I'm not sure what more than that the OP is expecting to get out of this debate!*

Well if that's all there is to say on the matter, we could eliminate most of the AIBU board.

I actually cant stand it either. They were children after all.

ethelfleda · 16/10/2017 15:51

I used to say this all the time. Then changed it to 'I find some children extremely annoying'
I think the original generalisation came from never noticing the ones that actually behave. You have to look hard for them as they don't draw attention to themselves. Some of them are even quite cute Grin

MirandaGoshawk · 16/10/2017 16:01

Yes. What ethelfleda said. I agree with you OP. I hate it dislike it intensely when people tar a group of people/animals with the same brush. What? You hate all cats? All of them? Have you met them all?

User843022 · 16/10/2017 16:01

'I don't think it's any more acceptable than saying you can't stand old people, or that all men are bastards. I would be Hmm at anyone who said it. Generalised hatred makes you sound fucking thick.'

Yes, it's just from the Katie Hopkins/Shona Sibary school of trying desperately to shock people.

RosieBucket · 16/10/2017 16:02

People seem to get more offended if someone says "I hate dogs" these days

I do hate dogs.

kaytee87 · 16/10/2017 16:03

It's ageism isn't it?

Can you say you hate old people?

CliffRichardsPenIs · 16/10/2017 16:03

Rosie How can you say that? Have you met all dogs? How can you tar all dogs with the same brush?

Whatever your answers are... I feel the same about children.
