AIBU thinking this name is not too posh

So we are expecting a baby girl soon and can't agree on names. I really like Tabitha Lily but DH thinks it is very posh and that you can't use a name like that unless you have a really posh sounding surname. I disagree and think that it's a pretty name and that whilst it's not as commonly used like Isla and Olivia etc just because it's not as popular it's doesn't mean it's as posh as he thinks. He also thinks she will be embarrassed when she is older. And keeps fixating on her ending up being called Tabby and risking being bullied, even though she could always stick with the full name of Tabitha, plenty of women I know don't have nicknames so it's not like she has to have one, plus we live in a nice area and there are plenty of posher names in use in the school and the area in general. (Not a private school, just lucky to be in a nice area, not trying to sound snobbish just outlining our situation, it's so nice and pretty an area that it's a major tourist hotspot) Our existing children use their full names so her using her full name isn't an unreasonable expectation.

Are there any Tabitha's out there? Do you regret your name or like it?

Or to anyone else, do you think it's an ok name? I've tried looking for other names but I just love this and its got under my skin and I just can't find something else I remotely like.

I love the name Tabitha! Go for it OP :) Tabitha Lily sounds very pretty as well.

TrustingTrudie · 18/09/2017 21:38

The lily doesn't go well imo but I like tabitha

Oly5 · 18/09/2017 21:39

I know a few Tabitha's and it's never shortened to Tabby

dudsville · 18/09/2017 21:39

You have to find something you agree on but fwiw I don't think it's "too posh". Perspective is everything with this though and you have to define what that means to you.

BouncyFlouncy · 18/09/2017 21:40

I have a cousin named Tabitha, we're now in our 30's but she has always been known as 'Taffy' or 'Taff'. Not exactly what you asked as it's not my own name, but just a different nickname that might develop you may not have been aware of. Personally I think Tabitha is lovely.

arethereanyleftatall · 18/09/2017 21:40

I think Tabitha can be a posh name, but it's a normal name too. I like it.
I don't like the lily addition to be honest, though at least if you add it, the name is no longer posh.

BouncyFlouncy · 18/09/2017 21:41

Btw she/we are defintely not posh!

Redglitter · 18/09/2017 21:42

Not sure Lily goes with it but I love Tabitha as a name.

As for it being shortened that doesn't necessarily follow. My name has a very obvious abbreviation but it was never ever shortened when I was at school

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 18/09/2017 21:43

Love Tabitha and don't like Lily Grin

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 18/09/2017 21:45

I know a 7 year old Tabitha nn Tabby and like the name. I don't think Lily is at all posh anymore.

SaucyJack · 18/09/2017 21:46

I think it's quite mainstream these days in terms of poshness. On a par with Florence or Eleanor.

It'll always be common at your local vets tho. I have a Tabitha meself. I didn't name her tho- I wouldn't have the creative flair to think up a name like that for a tabby girl.

steff13 · 18/09/2017 21:48

I like Tabitha and Lily, but I don't like Lily with Tabitha. I like Elizabeth with Tabitha, but that's a lot of name.

My name is Stephanie, and my husband is the only one who calls me Steph, no one else does. We don't really do nicknames in our family.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 18/09/2017 21:48

(Just to clarify Lily would be the middle name, so in normal life it would be Tabitha followed by the surname)

PovertyJetset · 18/09/2017 21:48

I love that name and it was on our short list. I know a tabby and she is lovely.

Voice0fReason · 18/09/2017 21:50

Tabitha is a lovely name but it will get shortened to Tabby or Tabs
Lily is fine for a middle name

Witsender · 18/09/2017 21:51

I don't think it is a posh name at all.

It is a lovely name though, very pretty. I'm not sure about the Lily though

Gaggleofgirls · 18/09/2017 21:51

I love the name but also have a husband who ruled it out as being too posh!

Pennysnow · 18/09/2017 21:53

Doesn't sound posh to me.

Will get shortened to Tabby though.

Not sure about Tabitha Lily.

craftyfox48 · 18/09/2017 21:54

Tabitha is definitely not considerered posh in my area. It's just largely unused. It's not a name that would attract bullies IMO.

It's not a very 'current', modern name if that's what you're after.

Also, on the recent series of The Voice Kids, they was a teenage girl contestant named Tabby.

ALittleMop · 18/09/2017 21:55

Its not so posh
I know a couple of grown up Tabithas - one is posh. and is shortened to Tabs
I like it but I think its a bit of a gobful with Lily.

craftyfox48 · 18/09/2017 21:55

I'm also not sure about Tabitha Lily- don't think it flows well

HeteronormativeHaybales · 18/09/2017 21:55

I don't think Tabitha's posh. It's nice, not my personal cup of tea, but nice.

MaroonPencil · 18/09/2017 21:56

I don't think it's too posh. Nor do I think it will get shortened to Tabby. Tab maybe.

When we were choosing names, DH claimed the name Sam was too posh Confused

Kintan · 18/09/2017 21:56

I love it! But if your DH really doesn't like it then it's not worth trying to convince him if it's not to his taste. You'll have to find a name you both agree on unfortunately!

Glossoverthat · 18/09/2017 21:58

I have a Tabitha daughter, with a flower second name, and she is always called and known as Tabitha, it's not shortened.
Personally ( and of course) I think it's a lovely name..
