AIBU thinking this name is not too posh

So we are expecting a baby girl soon and can't agree on names. I really like Tabitha Lily but DH thinks it is very posh and that you can't use a name like that unless you have a really posh sounding surname. I disagree and think that it's a pretty name and that whilst it's not as commonly used like Isla and Olivia etc just because it's not as popular it's doesn't mean it's as posh as he thinks. He also thinks she will be embarrassed when she is older. And keeps fixating on her ending up being called Tabby and risking being bullied, even though she could always stick with the full name of Tabitha, plenty of women I know don't have nicknames so it's not like she has to have one, plus we live in a nice area and there are plenty of posher names in use in the school and the area in general. (Not a private school, just lucky to be in a nice area, not trying to sound snobbish just outlining our situation, it's so nice and pretty an area that it's a major tourist hotspot) Our existing children use their full names so her using her full name isn't an unreasonable expectation.

Are there any Tabitha's out there? Do you regret your name or like it?

Or to anyone else, do you think it's an ok name? I've tried looking for other names but I just love this and its got under my skin and I just can't find something else I remotely like.

I like Tabitha. But if he really doesn't, you probably can't choose it.
Would he protest if you named her without him? If he would, - he has to suggest some names he does like, not just dismiss your suggestions.

Try something like www.namedtogether.com/

If he insists on being a negative Nelson about every single name without coming up with any ideas, you'll just have to take the reigns. Maybe give him four choices of names and see which you guys can agree on the most.
I'm totally bewildered at the class stuff I'm obviously not picking up on since I'm not British. Tabitha is a very classic yet underused name.

Tabitha is a really lovely name. We have a Tallulah who gets called Lulah and occasionally Hulahoops!

I wonder if it sounds OK for a little girl - but a middle aged woman called Tabitha sounds more unusual?

PandorasXbox · 25/09/2017 13:24

Tabitha is lovely.

BroomstickOfLove · 25/09/2017 13:26

It's a fairly popular name, at the moment, isn't it? I know more girls called Alice than anything else, I think, and Tabitha isn't as ubiquitous as that, but I'd definitely consider it as the sort of name that doesn't stand out as unusual.

Tabitha is the name given to English characters in a film made by Americans. It's a stereotypical posh and britishy name so I can see your DH's side of things.

If you like the name then go ahead

barefoofdoctor · 25/09/2017 15:01

Neither Tabitha nor Lily are remotely posh! Lily is common as anything round here and Tabitha just unpopular. Not sure where you live to think otherwise?

My cat is called Tabitha or Tabby for short.
I was reading a Jilly Cooper book when I got my cat, hence the name. I like it and she seems pleased with it.

fortheloveofpancakes · 25/09/2017 17:15

Lily doesn’t go with it at all btw.

Tabitha is the little witch in bewitched - 1960's American TV show

I loved the name then and still love it

Exactly, if Samantha and Darren aren't posh, I can't see how Tabitha can possibly regarded as posh!

Many names that are now very common eg Olivia, Chloe, Sophie etc would have been considered posh when I was young.
