DH and I spent our wedding anniversary in a v expensive boutique hotel. I took the body lotion and soap home as I usually would do (sad, but I get v excited about these things!)Yesterday we received a letter from the hotel asking for us to send the 2 items back for the future enjoyment of guests!!! Talk about humiliation! Looking forward to MNetters views

Just tell them you broke the bottle in the room and so cleaned it up, and they should be grateful to you for not leaving a mess.

filthymindedvixen · 05/04/2007 10:07

''Individual, sumptuous, eclectic, hip and funky bedrooms; cool'' oh look, they missed penny-pinching off their descriptive list...

mum2sons · 05/04/2007 10:07

powder28, no i wont be complaining but i do want them to know how embaressed we/I feel. DH is much more thicked skin than me and doesnt care either way.
It actually caused a bit of a row between me and DH too as I was the tealeaf !

The hotel was really lovely and it would have been one that we went back to.

They haven't achieved anything sherlock, other than look petty and ridiculous. I hadn't realised from mum's posts that they were refillable pump dispensers. Perhaps the hotel would have been far better off if it put a note in the rooms asking people not to take them. To write to someone after they've stayed is ridiculous.

Carmenere · 05/04/2007 10:07

Look their soaps are about £4 and the showergel about £7. Bought wholesale they will be about a third less so realistically we are looking at a sum total of about £9 maximum cost to the hotel. They can and should easily absorb that into their room rate, infact I would go as far to suggest that it is already built in. They are being incredibly offensive.

SherlockLGJ · 05/04/2007 10:07

Can we please ring them ????

Gobbledigook · 05/04/2007 10:08

Blardy hell! You're kidding?! I always take the little bottles and soaps! Doesn't everyone do that?! I've never been asked to return anything!

AnnabelCaramel · 05/04/2007 10:08

Send it back...but forget to put any stamps on it!

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 10:09

I'm going to Google them and phone them. I'm also going to write them.

I'm going to tell them a relative stayed there and how distressing their hygeine practices and lack of professionalism are.

filthymindedvixen · 05/04/2007 10:09

I can't find any pix of rooms..

Noticed they won this last year, snigger.

''2006 Winner of the 'Considerate Hotel of the Year Awards' ''

SherlockLGJ · 05/04/2007 10:09

Piglit

I was not having a go at you.

I was pointing out that it is all very well them having a disclaimer, but that they should allow for a margin of error.

SherlockLGJ · 05/04/2007 10:09

Feck it I am going to ring them.....

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 10:10

Barforama.

Cappuccino · 05/04/2007 10:10

it's not an error she bleeding well nicked them

would we have been so nice if she had stuffed the pillowcases in her bag?

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 10:10

I'll tell ds never to go there he is a one for his "freebies"

he does have a very nice thick white bath robe
and some of those pint sized starbucks mugs

mum2sons · 05/04/2007 10:10

The bottles were normal, buy from boots kind of size, big but not industrial size!!

Oh and plastic, not glass. Will look up the price and come back soon, DS2 is creating.

foxinsocks · 05/04/2007 10:10

you can see the bottles on some of the room pictures on there (by the sinks)

there's a bottle on the sink in the Venetian picture - is that the sort of thing you took?

it is hysterical that they wrote to you though - talk about making you never want to go back!

powder28 · 05/04/2007 10:11

Sorry mum2sons, im with your dh on this one. A bit embarrasing but not worth worrying about.

DeviousDaffodil · 05/04/2007 10:12

I would decant the products into travel bottles and then send them the empty bottlse back.

Aloha · 05/04/2007 10:12

Totally different. All the hotels I have ever stayed in include the toiletries in the room rate. They are YOURS. If this hotel has a different policy, it should say so, and if it doesn't say so, it should not write to people who have paid £250 for a night's stay in a way that is bound to embarrass them.

mum2sons · 05/04/2007 10:12

I know I nicked them cappacino but I did think I could have them, it was innocent and not an evil thieving act! I am not a burgling type and I did not take the towels!

Saturn74 · 05/04/2007 10:13

Just ignore the letter.

NadineBaggott · 05/04/2007 10:13

I've emailed the [email protected]

its the only one I could find.

am I sad?

foxinsocks · 05/04/2007 10:13

Venetian room

it must be the bottles they are after (to refill) I guess
