DH and I spent our wedding anniversary in a v expensive boutique hotel. I took the body lotion and soap home as I usually would do (sad, but I get v excited about these things!)Yesterday we received a letter from the hotel asking for us to send the 2 items back for the future enjoyment of guests!!! Talk about humiliation! Looking forward to MNetters views

If they didn't want you to use etf leave it there this does not ring true tbh but if it is day oh I'm sorry husband used the soap on his hairy bum and we used the lotion as lube there's only a drip left by I can send it back if you want fucking cheek

Topsyturvy78 · 04/11/2022 01:20

The person who revived it posted a link saying it's up for sale. I can only guess but they said they live locally. She's likely seen it up for sale and it jogged they're memory about this thread. No comment from the OP though.

Drodeadledbedfedheadredsaid · 04/11/2022 01:26

Oh fgs old post go away

BlodynGwyn · 04/11/2022 03:30

I know this is an old thread, but I find it revolting people are pumping from the same container everyone else uses. Very nasty. Somebody could put something gross in it. I always take my own toiletries when I travel.

ThisIsMyNewestName · 04/11/2022 03:50

I know this is a zombie thread but once I went to a hotel that had the most divine smelling shower gel jn large bottles on the wall. I decanted all that soap into my water bottle.

oosha · 04/11/2022 06:25

heidipi · 03/11/2022 23:39

@oosha ”and after a COVID pandemic that they are reusing toiletries for other guests”…it all happened 15 years before Covid so they never could have imagined (cue swirly time travel music) 😆

can we nominate the thread for classics?

Looks like numerous people have done what I did and assumed it was a recent post…that’s on MN I think! Pre or post COVID, disgusting practice by the hotel, who does that 🤮🤮🤮

JenniferBarkley · 04/11/2022 06:55

Omg that thread with the email replies is insane, did MN posters really email a hotel they had no connection with to complain about their toiletry policy based on a stranger's MN post? 🤣🤣🤣 Absolutely batshit, it's made my day #teamhotel

The friend was there with a girl, although it would have been funnier if he had been there alone

That is hilarious /literally laughed out loud!!🤣🤣🤣

IncompleteSenten · 04/11/2022 07:13

We're eventually going to have an 18th birthday party for this thread.

Trustylion · 04/11/2022 07:13

I know this was 15 years ago but I am astounded that even then someone would take a large size plastic dispenser of toiletries. I think even then you'd only take a small unopened travel size one surely! Surely an open one with a dispenser lid would leak all over the contents of your bag.

Also, I once met a very obnoxious American exchange student who told me he ejaculated into a dispenser of shampoo in a hotel after they'd bought his room service order wrong. Never used an open dispenser style bottle of toiletries in a hotel since.

Or have I just become a terrible cynic since 2007 🤣

3WildOnes · 04/11/2022 07:28

I remember this thread from the first time round. Makes me feel ancient!

dayswithaY · 04/11/2022 07:49

This is a Zombie thread and v annoying! 2006? Who even cares anymore?

Ting20161987 · 04/11/2022 08:17

Wasn't a hotel Oxford way was it? We stayed in a boutique hotel in a little village. The room had a beautiful stand alone bath in the room. I had a bath and used the bubble bath. we got an email once we left asking for £10 for the bubblebath lol

Isn't this the case with soap dispensers in public loos, hand sanitiser, etc pretty much everywhere? The cleaners will clean the containers and once you've pumped, you've got soap to wash your hands with and will have clean hands. What's wrong with that?

cartblanche · 04/11/2022 08:23

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MN - Never lock threads after a year (as someone suggested earlier when they realised it was a Zombie thread)

I LOVE the fact that you can go back and see threads from 15+ years ago. It's a fantastic thing.

You just need to notice the date when you post. And if a thread is still provoking comment, then the conversation continues..

Am I the only one to feel sorry for the hotel selling up? Obviously it's 15 years later so MN didn't kill it off. I hope it's because they're retiring rather than because of the current economic shit storm. To think this thread is from before the last economic crash in 2008...

Algor1thm · 04/11/2022 08:40

Ah 2007... I hadn't even sat my GCSEs yet 😁💁🏼‍♀️

Bogofftosomewherehot · 04/11/2022 08:44

"It is totally embaressing to think that they thought that we were thieves. We had just spent £500 with them!"

@greenday "Goodness! Unless you did take one that was screwed to the wall ... I think that hotel has some explaining to do."

But you were thieves. You can see that they were in a holder screwed to the wall and had to do some manoeuvring to get them out,. As for the comment about your "important" jobs and how you're the type of clientele they want....hhmmm...smacks of self importance. I spend about £4.5K with a particular hotel chain on my annual visit with my family, that doesn't entitle me to help myself to the the bathrobe and slippers (just scaling up for cost and amount I spend).

Going to respond to this thread so it fills up then goes away quickly!

What are you talking about? They were normal bottles, not dispensers!

Ah Katherine, but then there's the response thread from the hotel - it still has 839 posts to go 😝

I don't understand why people are getting shirty with someone for reviving an old thread when it's perfectly obvious from her post why she did. RTFT.

I'd better get started on that one then 😁

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 04/11/2022 10:01

It got revived because the hotel is up for sale and the link to it was posted. Not sure why everyone is getting their knickers in a twist.

TherapistInATabard · 04/11/2022 10:04

The actual problem is people clicking on ‘trending’ posts and not noticing the date or reading all OP’s posts!

TherapistInATabard · 04/11/2022 10:05

And I’m getting the last word mwahahaha 😆
