DH and I spent our wedding anniversary in a v expensive boutique hotel. I took the body lotion and soap home as I usually would do (sad, but I get v excited about these things!)Yesterday we received a letter from the hotel asking for us to send the 2 items back for the future enjoyment of guests!!! Talk about humiliation! Looking forward to MNetters views

Who is this? What hotel?

No way I'd patronise a place like this.

greenday · 05/04/2007 09:54

OK, I have to say I don't think I would have taken normal sized ones. Even then, I'm sure you're not the first guests who have assumed that the toiletries were ok to take home and for the hotel, not the first incidents of such to deal with.
Either they put up a sign in all the bathrooms, or change the sizes. Writing to their customers is most tasteless and very poor PR skills.

mum2sons · 05/04/2007 09:54

I am sending them back and have said in the note, to save future guests from this kind of humiliation, please do make it clear that the soap and lotion should not be taken.

I bet you won't stay there again, will you?

Even if it was the best hotel visit you ever had?

It doesn't make good financial sense for them to chase you in this way.

greenday · 05/04/2007 09:55

yes, yes ... which hotel please!!!

NadineBaggott · 05/04/2007 09:55

yeah tell us who it is and we'll all email that we have no intention of using an hotel that charges exorbitant rates then quibbles over a bottle of shampoo

gigglinggoblin · 05/04/2007 09:56

also tell them you have told the world they put out used toiletries. eeewwww.

Cappuccino · 05/04/2007 09:56

Why are we barfing at refilling a bottle ffs?

I'd be a lot more unhappy if they were just chucking them out willy-nilly to please obsessive compulsive guests

I don't spend my time running backwards and forwards to the recycling centre with all my plastic bottles for hotels to be flinging them out as soon as a guest touches them

Katy44 · 05/04/2007 09:56

Was it a bar of soap?? Surely not! Send it back with hairs in it.

Blu · 05/04/2007 09:56

If you use the 'public' toilets in a posh hotel, the hand soap / lotion etc is shared from a communal bottle - what's the difference? Unless you suspect other guests of squirting nasty substances into the bottles, perhaps?

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 09:56

Noooooooooo, don't send them back! Think of the postage! You paid £250 for this night - ffs!

Look, you can buy Malmaison stuff, but they give it to you if you have a night in the hotel

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 09:57

Because if I pay £250 a night for a hotel, I expect something like the link I have just posted - not a refilled bottle with backwashed pubic hair in it.

mum2sons · 05/04/2007 09:57

It was Strattons in Norfolk, cant do the link thing. The sad thing is that we were planning on going back with my DH`s 3 business partners and wives for a work do/weekend..penny rich and pound poor I think the saying goes!

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 09:57

And I don't want them chucked out, I want to be able to take it home with me!

lionheart · 05/04/2007 09:57

Or, tell them you discussed the matter amongst your cyber friends and send them this thread.

Hotels always like feed-back, don't they?

greenday · 05/04/2007 09:57

Agree with NB, I really would put a note in their feedback column, if they have one in their website.

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 09:57

Who are these people?

They are very unprofessional.

Not to mention gross and unhygenic.

Carmenere · 05/04/2007 09:58

Don't send them back, tell them you'll see them in small claims court. FFS don't indulge their pettyness.

Katy44 · 05/04/2007 09:58

If you're going to do that delete my comments about the hairs please!

NOTCADBURYCremeSquonk · 05/04/2007 09:58

And question what else they re-use as well [yuck emoticon]

Cappuccino · 05/04/2007 09:58

oh I see there was pubic hair in it

obviously I should have taken this as read

Katy44 · 05/04/2007 09:58

I'll be on a hotel blacklist!

piglit · 05/04/2007 09:58

Even if it was Molton Brown stuff that would have cost them about £20 - £25. I wouldn't have taken them myself but don't really see a problem with it. It does seem really tight of them to write to you asking for them back. How humiliating for you.

Go on - tell us which hotel it was....

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 09:59

[email protected]

Carmenere · 05/04/2007 09:59

And tell them that you are not going back their because you couldn't risk your business partners being exposed to such unprofessionalism.
