DH and I spent our wedding anniversary in a v expensive boutique hotel. I took the body lotion and soap home as I usually would do (sad, but I get v excited about these things!)Yesterday we received a letter from the hotel asking for us to send the 2 items back for the future enjoyment of guests!!! Talk about humiliation! Looking forward to MNetters views

Fuck a duck.

I remember reading this original thread as I didn’t live far from the hotel at the time.

I was 27.

Now I am 42.

And I am spiralling into some sort of crisis about the fact that I’ve wasted 15 years of my life and life reading stuff that doesn’t matter on the internet.

MegGriffinshat · 03/11/2022 21:35

15 years of my life and more, I mean.

JudgeJ · 03/11/2022 21:36

They used to do a lovely afternoon tea there though not been since before lockdown!

wordler · 03/11/2022 21:43

I’d not seen this old thread before so didn’t realize I was reading a Zombie for a while. It just occurred to me - if you a desperate to take home the posh toiletries and they are the big size you could just decant into a take home bottle - they can’t prove you didn’t just wash yourself crazy during your stay!

Cakeandcoffee93 · 03/11/2022 21:47

Omg empty it and put in a cheap one pls

This is absolutely true! Here is a copy of what i have just written back to them:

Dear Sir / Madam

Enclosed are the body lotion and hand soap you have requested back.
May I suggest that to save future guests from this kind of excruciating embarrassment that you make it clear that the bathroom soaps are not to be taken.

Yours sincerely

I’m sorry but what on earth would make you think you could just take full sized products away with you in the first place ? It’s not the done thing.

Moonopoly · 03/11/2022 21:49

Reading this feels like 2007 was a different life time. I miss it!

Theala · 03/11/2022 21:49

I would totally have pinched that mad dog picture if I'd stayed there. They wouldn't be getting that back no matter how nicely rhey wrote to me. 😇

Hesma · 03/11/2022 21:55

If they were travel sized fair enough but if they’re full sized then you’re a CF…. unbelievable!

The bottles are gilchrest and soames, I dont think they are particularily expensive for such an expensive hotel.
It is such a shame as we really did have such a fab time!

Just ebayed them, around £5-15 for a full set, of different ones. Seem basically a home bargains cheap brands. (Although I could be wrong.)

GG1986 · 03/11/2022 21:59

This is so funny! I definitely expect the daily mail or mirror to run a story from this thread 🤣

Wiluli · 03/11/2022 21:59

I would be tempted to say , sorry we had a but if a wild night and they where both used

I doubt she can remember her exact thought from 2007.

😂embarrassingly I can remember this thread from the first time round!

Looks like the goods were bolted to the wall….so no, you shouldn’t have taken them.

It's possible that things might have changed since this thread was posted 15 years ago...

Omg I read your comment thinking “yeh, that’s bad”. Then it dawned on me that I was also 27, therefore also now 42.

Shit.

notacooldad · 03/11/2022 22:12

On Radio Lancashire this evening they were discussing this very issue - what is acceptable and expected to be taken from a hotel and what isn't.

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 03/11/2022 22:13

Surely this thread should be moved to classics? 😂

Mirabai · 03/11/2022 22:19

Glad to say I haven’t been here long enough to remember the original thread.

The decor is quite vile.

they were normal shop size not minitures. I guess I should turn myself in now!

I think this is different. That’s poor form OP

Probably hit the bolted containers after 15 years of toiletry loses 🤔

purfectpuss · 03/11/2022 22:28

Lovely hotel OP! And looking at the pictures of the rooms on their website, it looks pretty clear that the bottles are refillable, in wall mounted holders, and that they are not intended to be replaced for every guest!

YWBU to think they were for taking and i can't understand why you would think otherwise. Everyone knows that you only take the miniatures!
