AIBU to be upset with work colleagues?

It was my last day in the office today. I'm now officially on maternity leave.

I'm very disappointed with what my colleagues arranged for my send off, though. They promised we would do something exciting. I was expecting a work baby shower (which would have been nice in addition to the one I got my friends to arrange), but we ended up just going to an Italian at lunch time.

I'm very upset. I won't be back at work for a year. I've been there for years and I expected something more. I didn't even get any gifts or a slice of a cake. All I got was one card shared from the office!

When work colleagues leave they get a massive send off with work lunches, gifts, cards & a night out. I'm not expecting a night out drinking given my condition, but I wanted something more.

Phyllis
You did see that oldbirdy did say A card and A present not several. Yet again you are expecting people to lavish you with gifts just cos you had a baby.

Most people don't give a fit about someone else's baby

You really are in for a shock when it arrives. There won't be room for "me me me" then.

StarsAndStripes18 · 05/08/2017 13:50

Fenella, I remember Fajita Friday GrinGrin

Willow2017 · 05/08/2017 13:51

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/08/2017 13:53

Farmerswife4life1984 · 05/08/2017 13:54

YABU ! Your not leaving your going on maternity leave . Iv never worked somewhere that does a leaving do for mat leave ! Goodness me how pretentious of you

poweredbybread · 05/08/2017 13:56

This is hilarious and must be a joke. No one likes anyone who works in HR even if they are very very important. I do hope you have the doula and maternity nurse ready! This is definitely a joke isn't it nobody take themselves this seriously. Grin

Phyllis does. Then again I'm convinced that Phyllis is living a life similar to a Radio 4 sitcom or like Hyacinth Bucket, where it's hilarious to read/listen to but must be rather insufferable to those who have to actually live/work with her.

Phyllis
There is an old saying "Pride comes before a fall"

You should take it to heart or your world may crash around you.

lulahbelle · 05/08/2017 14:10

You seem very focussed on the amount of fuss that is (or in your view isn't) being made of you and on the level of gifts etc you're being given - maybe you should just focus on your baby and being excited about meeting him/her. If I ever manage to get and stay pregnant, I doubt I'll give a toss whether anyone else is excited or giving me presents - I'll just be grateful I'm finally having a baby.

Aeroflotgirl · 05/08/2017 14:14

YAbVU, they took you out for lunch. You do sound entitled.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 05/08/2017 14:26

This is amazing 😂😂😂

Shock
TittyGolightly · 05/08/2017 14:45

Goodness. But I'm none the wiser tbh

Maybe try google then.

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 05/08/2017 14:49

I got bugger all when I went on maternity leave. I work in security and it was actually the people in the building got the baby gifts after she was born. Still nothing from my workmates.

I have now quit but not because of that. And I am not expecting a leaving gift either.

You sound very entitled and childish

ziggzagg · 05/08/2017 15:03

Just to piss you off (light hearted in case it needs to be said) we've just had a collection for a colleague who is going on 3 weeks paternity leave, nice card and a good wedge of cash!! He Wasn't expecting it and was very grateful!! But it's just what we do in our workplace I'm sure it's not the norm xx

Allthebestnamesareused · 05/08/2017 15:27

ziggzagg it probably is the norm if you like your colleague and they aren't one of those people who are really up themself and thing they are super importnant (and on the Harrassment thread) refer to thir family having a special "glow" about them Grin

BabsGanoush · 05/08/2017 16:28

Oh Phyllis, I think there was a memo from your boss, entitled' Baby Shower for Phyllis (the Important One), asking for a the largest meeting room to be booked out, the best catering to be arranged and everyone to attend.

Janice (Admin supervisor) was instructed to be in charge of the collection (£20 min) and would be visiting each department so please have your money ready!

Janice was also to spend the day decorating the room and arranging silly little games to be played. Sharon (makes home-made cakes) was ordered to create a masterpiece, a 3 tiered Baby Cake. Although this wasn't to be shared, but for Phyllis to keep all for herself.

A taxi was to whisk you and other top important people off for a Spa afternoon (Mum-to-be Pamper for you !!). Then in the evening everyone was to gather at the nearest Michelin * restaurant for a surprise goodbye meal (on expenses).

Not sure what happened.

Olddear · 05/08/2017 16:41

Janice and Sharon said they'd rather stick pins in their eyes.....

Maybe they don't like you very much.

MommaGee · 05/08/2017 17:04

Hopefully I get some more cards and presents once the baby has arrived!
Hopefully you'll get a standard delivery, a healthy baby and home within a few hours. Nothing else matters

KeepServingTheDrinks · 05/08/2017 17:23

Phyllis!!!!!! How fantastic to have you back. LOVED your last thread (was on it under a different name). Glad pregnancy going well. It's getting close now.

So..... PLEASE give us a catch up. Tell us about the babyshower. Who organised it in the end? Friends or S-I-L? What happened? Was it in a hall? What presents did you get? Where are your friends holidaying without you? Did the dieter lose any weight? Are there still Fajita Fridays?????

PLEASE tell us all the news.

Kezzamo · 05/08/2017 17:23
