What if this happened at your kids school?

Would it bother you - if this happened at your kids school? A 15 yr old boy (ok Trans) who used to race on the boys team - now races on the girls team and is beating the other girls. I don't see why it won't happen here - if it already hasn't happened.

I have kids at high school and i'd find this hard tovsccrpt, especially if i had girls who liked sport.

I think it's unfair because their hormone levels and muscles will be different and it gives an unfair advantage.

I know - i started another thread about sports (adult weightlifting) but this case just happened and I don't see why it won't hsppen here. This isn't just sharing toilets which isn't such a big deal to many - but this is a parenting site, this could affect peoples children here. I wonder what you would think or do if it happened at your school, possibly to your child.

I probably wouldn't be thrilled, but I would feel more sorry for the lad who felt he had been born a woman in a man's body, than I would for my DD because she didn't win a race at school. That's just how it is for me.

I wouldn't feel particularly sorry for anyone who was using their natural born advantage to cheat their way to winning.

Weren't there reasons, biological, anatomical, hormonal, which meant girls and boys competed seperately?
Deciding your gender is different doesn't mean you should be able to compete on a level playing field with those who don't have those advantages, but apparently it does, and you're transphobic for thinking that

This is happening at a school in my area. All girls school, f2m pupil who has no intention of leaving the school now transitioning. Participating on a girls sports team. Staff think it's ridiculous, no idea about the pupils.

The trans child shouldn't have been entered in the girls race whilst still producing testosterone (i.e. has a pair of bollocks). Unless all the girls in the race were given free access to nandrolone. A fair playing field start on the actual field. Not one where the grass is greener.

Comparing how it must feel to be born in the "wrong" body to how it must feel not to win a race at school shows a real lack of empathy and perspective.

In short - nbody gives a shit if your child comes first, second or third in the 200 metres. HTH

My DD is only little. I imagine she would mind, yes. Obviously she would see it as an unfair advantage and she wouldn't be wrong. I would hope she could, in the very unlikely event that this will ever affect her, see her way to empathising with the person who is struggling with their gender identity. Likewise, if she struggles with her gender identity, I hope people will show her the same consideration.

It's not just about winning races at school, though, is it? It's ultimately competing at all levels, up to and including the Olympics; representing your country; and, in the case of many American young women, it's potentially a scholarship to university which for someone from a disadvantaged background is huge and life changing.

When girls and young women start to miss out on these things because their place on the team has been taken by a biologically male person, or because they are competing in an event against a biologically male person against whom they have no chance of winning, no matter how talented or dedicated they are, will you still not feel an iota of sympathy or compassion for them?

Is there no part of your brain that says hang on, much as I empathise with anyone who's suffering, reality is still reality and a biological male CANNOT be a female?

Most of us bring our children up (kids are baby goats) to be decent and respectful of other people, their beliefs, sexuality and so forth . You do keep fannying about with these threads - could you just spit it out and state whether you think trans people shouldn't have any place in sport/life/breathing the same oxygen as you just so I can see where you are on this? PS is it just male to female you have issues with or do female to male also get your goat?

It's extremely unusual for a 15 year old not to already be involved in athletics at club/county/national level if they are good enough to reach the Olympics or be professional.

So, what happens at school at the stage described by OP is pretty irrelevant, yes.

Good! We need intelligent and critical thinking to have a necessary and intelligent discussion on this, not people hysterically accusing others of being "haters" and bigots because they dare to voice concern or wish to debate Trans issues in a way that doesn't toe the current "yes! take whatever you want from women and their spaces" party line.

Trifle it saddens me that you are already expecting your DD to put others first, ahead of herself. I would have hoped that in 2017 there would be a consensus that teaching girls to suppress their own needs and feelings in favour of those of others was not healthy or desirable.

I would have hoped that we would recognise that girls need to be brought up with a sense of their own right to boundaries, their own right to make themselves central in their own lives, iyswim, in order to counter all the toxic baggage from countless generations of girls and women being taught to always put others first, and all the shit that goes with that. I've read this and read others talking of empathy. Where is the empathy and respect shown towards females? If winning isn't important why are these trans sports folk and their supporters so happy at their success - celebrating them winning over females.

A female to male transgender will surely never be a threat to men in men's sport due to men's biology giving them the advantage with strength and speed in pretty much all sports, so this will never be raised as an issue.
If born women had the advantage over born men, you can bet your arse that men would have a massive problem with it!
