What if this happened at your kids school?

Bambambini · 08/04/2017 18:28

Would it bother you - if this happened at your kids school? A 15 yr old boy (ok Trans) who used to race on the boys team - now races on the girls team and is beating the other girls. I don't see why it won't happen here - if it already hasn't happened.

I have kids at high school and i'd find this hard tovsccrpt, especially if i had girls who liked sport.

I give up. The misogynist, anti-feminist bigotry on this thread is too much for me.

I'm out.

Megatherium · 08/04/2017 20:25

Not AGAIN, ffs. There are literally NO new points to be made on this subject on MN.

MsGameandWatch, you really cannot seriously believe that free discussion on this topic is not allowed on MN. It has to be discussed more than virtually anything else, even in-laws.

Megatherium · 08/04/2017 20:27

it saddens me that you are already expecting your DD to put others first, ahead of herself

Seriously? You are sad that a child is being taught to be unselfish?

Trifleorbust · 08/04/2017 20:27

histinyhandsarefrozen:

I am here, you know. Hmm

histinyhandsarefrozen · 08/04/2017 20:30

Girls shouldn't aim to win at sports. That's yucky.

TalkingintheDark · 08/04/2017 20:32

I don't know why you're trying to talk to me, Megatherium. Can't you see I've flounced, precisely because of people's hateful bigotry? And then you come up with more of the same!

I despair, I really do.

SmileEachDay · 08/04/2017 20:34

Is it an ironic flounce though Talking? To demonstrate how ppintless flouncing and shutting down discussion is?

Inertia · 08/04/2017 20:37

There's more to it than just testosterone, you'd also need take into accounts differences in muscles and bone structure. Post-puberty, men are typically much bigger and stronger than women and would remain so even after hormonal treatment.

It would require virtually no extra organisation or costs to make it fair - you'd just need a women's category, a men's category, and at least one category for anyone who does not identify with their biological sex.

And it's unlikely that I will personally be affected by this at an elite sporting level. However, it's part of a bigger picture - a picture in which children suffering with body dysphoria are railroaded into transitioning, with no opportunity to even investigate whether their mental health could be helped in other ways. It affects all women, and the rights and protections we have due to our biological sex, when any man who declares himself to feel like a woman at that moment is legally recognised as one.

FerdinandsRevenge · 08/04/2017 20:37

I'd feel very upset if my daughter was training and losing to someone with a chemical advantage. The numbers of people declaring themselves trans is growing exponentially. And with the real advantage men have I'm concerned we'll be left with no women in women's sport.

I think it's telling that posters would say their daughters futures aren't as important as another boy's feelings

MsGameandWatch · 08/04/2017 20:42

That's not what I said. I said that I can't believe that people constantly try to shut the discussion down with accusations of bigotry. Thankfully and quite rightly it hasn't worked here. Unfortunately it does and is in real life though. I hope it continues to be discussed freely despite the best attempts of those shrieking "transphobic" the moment a discussion thread starts.

Terfinator · 08/04/2017 20:55

Bruce Jenner, ex-Olympic athlete is 14th worldwide for the decathlon (a sport which women are not even allowed to compete in).

However, Caitlyn Jenner holds the world record for the decathlon, as Bruce's previous record would beat any current woman's.

DameDeDoubtance · 08/04/2017 20:57

I wish people wouldn't get so cross that there are people who give a shit about girls and women and their right to compete with their own sex. This matters and directly effects our daughters. this needs discussing, more, not less.

TalkingintheDark · 08/04/2017 20:59

Smile I'll just say that everything I know about flouncing, I learned from the "how dare you exist, you unspeakable transphobic bigot!" brigade.

But actually I do find the level of misogyny and anti-feminism on these threads very hard to stomach.

I hate the way the realities of sexism and misogyny are routinely denied and airbrushed out of existence. The way the fraudulent notion of women having "cis privilege" has been invented as a new way for male born people to silence and oppress female born people.

The way so many people (including so many women) think they're supporting the most vulnerable in society but are actually often abandoning the most vulnerable and supporting/enabling the bullies, even while the bullies are in the process of bullying the vulnerable.

Vile, hateful, anti-women bigotry.

SmileEachDay · 08/04/2017 21:04

Indeed, Talking
I have yet to see a debate on this trans issue which allows the concerns of women to be heard and valued.

SoulAccount · 08/04/2017 21:13

If 'no one gives a shit' if your dd wins the 200m, why does the trans child and their parents get to give a shit and get to win the 200m?

And actually school athletics leads to county athletics and so on.

I have huge sympathy for dysmorphic children and transsexuals . I have worked with two people who have transitioned, years before this became so talked about.

Transgendered people have rights, and must be protected from discrimination.

But anyone remotely concerned with rights and equality can see where women's rights and equality are compromised in the face of 'gender trumps sex' .

TheDowagerCuntess · 08/04/2017 21:17

There is a significant dearth of female-to-male trans people rushing to compete - and naturally lose - in their sport of choice.

And not very many F2M trans prisoners rushing to be incarcerated in male prisons.

Odd. 🤔

gammaraystar · 08/04/2017 21:19

Ex-men shouldn't be able to compete in women's sport. If they want to compete it should be in a seperate class. Can't they compete in the paraolympics is a trans class? Surely being born in the wrong body is a disability?

PrincessLeia80 · 08/04/2017 21:19

I would assume a 15 year old would not take the decision lightly to be trans and would come with a fair amount of risk on their part. So while it is unfair on the girls competing it would be very wrong to make the trans boy compete with the boys or stop him/her from competing completely.

Nomoreworkathome · 08/04/2017 21:19

All this trans gender bollocks is becoming very dull YANBU

jellyfrizz · 08/04/2017 21:23

So trans feelings should trump female feelings? Because...?

Nomoreworkathome · 08/04/2017 21:26

Why? Why should trans feelings come before anything else? Utter crap.

Nomoreworkathome · 08/04/2017 21:26

Sorry.... cross post with Jelly

histinyhandsarefrozen · 08/04/2017 21:26

Well, I've never been on these threads before but now I see that posters are actually lining up to argue that their daughters shouldn't really be bothered about coming first in sports, they should just be polite ladies or perhaps even feel sorry for the transgender competitors who are beating them, well, I absolutely will be back. Grin

Fascinating that people, some who might be parents of daughters, hold these views.

Nomoreworkathome · 08/04/2017 21:27

If someone is male then they should compete as a male and not a female. That or they don't compete at all.

SmileEachDay · 08/04/2017 21:28

hist they are not only the mothers of daughters, many of them are daughters

It frankly beggars belief.
