What if this happened at your kids school?

Bambambini · 08/04/2017 18:28

Would it bother you - if this happened at your kids school? A 15 yr old boy (ok Trans) who used to race on the boys team - now races on the girls team and is beating the other girls. I don't see why it won't happen here - if it already hasn't happened.

I have kids at high school and i'd find this hard tovsccrpt, especially if i had girls who liked sport.

The best solution I have at this point is to move away from mens vs womens categories and do it by testosterone levels. Eg. (and I have no real understanding of the science, so this is going to be massively simplified, but bear with me) category 1: testosterone levels below a, with a being those of a normal, biological woman not on any performance enhancing drugs. Category 2: testosterone levels above a and below b. Trans people with lower testosterone levels either way, biological women who want to mess around with illegal drugs for competing in category a. You show up with the drugs in your system, fine, you compete in category 2. Category 3: testosterone levels above b, ie biological males, trans women yet to undergo treatment and therefore still biologically male, women on an insane level of testosterone for whatever reason. Could something like that work?

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 08/04/2017 19:27

Where is the empathy and respect shown towards females?

Gotcha! Its just males you hate.

user1471890338 · 08/04/2017 19:28

I'm not transphobic by the way, I want all people to live as they want and be as happy as they can be, but at some point there has to be a limit to eroding women's hard fought for rights, and the rebranding of women.
There's a reason why women fought and are fighting for equal rights, we shouldn't lose sight of this.

Trifleorbust · 08/04/2017 19:28

it saddens me that you are already expecting your DD to put others first, ahead of herself

It saddens me that you think this is sad.

KingsCross88 · 08/04/2017 19:29

Gotcha! Its just males you hate.

You think that if someone has empathy and respect for one gender, they must hate the other? Really?

SmileEachDay · 08/04/2017 19:29

kings I know. And I agree. But it's the way these threads pan out that I have an issue with - it's already happened with this one. Reasonable questions and concerns are shut down by shouts of "transphobic"

It helps no one and it doesn't move anyone forward.

Annahibiscuits · 08/04/2017 19:35

75% of girls give up sport upon puberty. I feel very strongly that the very limited opportunities to progress in female sports, should be reserved for girls and women. Aspirations need to be maintained and that can't happen if they have to compete against boys

Every sympathy for a child with gender dysphoria, but playing along with the delusion and disadvantaging girls, helps no one

mogonfoxnight · 08/04/2017 19:37

OP
on the same website there is an article about a woman wrestler who transgendered to man, took testosterone, became very strong and heavy, and the women wrestlers complained about that too. He, the transgendered wrestler, had to move to mens.

Excitement2017 · 08/04/2017 19:39

Children are resilient and will themselves re evaluate the situation. It will likely be a situation where the boy who is transitioning will always be first and everyone knows and expects that and the girl who is second will be viewed as the 'real' first. The order will just be shifted accordingly to what the majority view the 'norm' as

Slightly different in situations where others are unaware that someone is transitioning I suppose.
Personally wouldn't bother me but I expect the above situation is how it would pan out

Doncha · 08/04/2017 19:41

If you search on the OPs username she has raised multiple anti-LGBPQ threads. Daily Fail employee looking for some pigswill for tomorrows trough.

MsGameandWatch · 08/04/2017 19:42

And how will it pan out in adult competitive sport? Who gets the medal, the sponsorships, the salaries, the podium? The real winner or the pretend winner? I actually cannot believe we have reached the point where everyone will be expected to shift their entire perceptions and experience to accommodate one man pretending to be a woman.

Bambambini · 08/04/2017 19:42

Mogon - you think girls are wrong to complain at competing against another female who is allowed to take testosterone?

Sallysadlyseescertainty · 08/04/2017 19:42

I'm not transphobic, I'm just arsehole-phobic. Actually, biological males with great big willies and balls and chests, forcing their way into female sports and athletics that are meant to match the biological female physique, musclo-skeletal strength and anatomy is the epitome of male chauvinism.
Male chauvinism is prejudice, is it not?

Excitement2017 · 08/04/2017 19:44

No idea how it would pan out for adult competitive sports ! Too confusing and too many scenarios to consider.
If I was a young athlete trans or not it would put me off as you'd either never have a chance of winning or be told you had an unfair advantage

histinyhandsarefrozen · 08/04/2017 19:47

Dd is excellent at cross country. (Preens)

Privately, I think- what's the point- in ten years time, she will be competing against trans women and won't have a hope in hell of beating them.

SmileEachDay · 08/04/2017 19:48

the boy who is transitioning will always be first and everyone knows and expects that and the girl who is second will be viewed as the 'real' first

And why should the girl have to be second place to a boy? It's almost like the male feelings are more of a priority. Like females are second class citizens. A bit...I dunno... oppressed....

Ohhhhhh....wait....Hmm

mogonfoxnight · 08/04/2017 19:49

Bambambini, I was more interested in what you thought. Man to woman trans must stay in men's, and woman to man must also go to men's?

Mammylamb · 08/04/2017 19:50

Why are there lots of transphobic threads on mumsnet at the moment?

SmileEachDay · 08/04/2017 19:51

Where is the transphobia, Manmy?

Suggest you report to HQ.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 08/04/2017 19:53

Is it transphobic to say my dd Is highly unlikely to beat a physiological male in cross country?

Annahibiscuits · 08/04/2017 19:54

Mammy sports are segregated INTO male and female because of differences in anatomy and physiology, which means women would never win otherwise

What are the reasons for segregating according to gender identity?

MsGameandWatch · 08/04/2017 20:01

Why are there so many people unwilling to allow free discussion on MN when it comes to Trans issues?

CallousAndStrange · 08/04/2017 20:01

OP, you state above that you don't know why you feel so strongly about this. Neither do I. This is a single incident, in another country, concerning people you have never met. You don't know any of the individual circumstances that led to this decision. You have read a report designed specifically to be emotive.

Trans people are a tiny proportion of the population. These issues get reported on so disproportionately at the moment because it feeds nicely into people's sense of outrage and outrage=clicks.

EpoxyResin · 08/04/2017 20:03

I'm with Trifle, 100%.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 08/04/2017 20:09

What was trifles point?

Nice girls give way to transgender girls when it comes to competitive sports?
