Pronounced cal-y-oh-pee

Is it awful?

No. I don't like it and everyone will say 'Cally-Opp' but it's a perfectly acceptable name!

AuntieStella · 05/04/2017 17:42

I think it's lovely.

HallowedMimic · 05/04/2017 17:43

I think it's nice!

MaidOfStars · 05/04/2017 17:43

Lovely. And I'd know how to say it too, if that helps.

welshweasel · 05/04/2017 17:43

Don't love it. Don't hate it. She'll be called
Cally though so make sure you like that!

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 05/04/2017 17:43

Sounds like a type of melon!!

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2017 17:43

It sounds like a sort of fruit or animal. I wouldn't. Nobody would ever pronounce it or spell it correctly either.

blackteasplease · 05/04/2017 17:44

Nice.

Calliope is one of the muses isn't she?

FoofFighter · 05/04/2017 17:44

Grey's Anatomy fan by any chance? Grin

I love it :D

TheProblemOfSusan · 05/04/2017 17:44

I think it's lovely and I knew how to say it. Also can be Cally for short if she likes when she's older.

I love all these Greek names coming back into fashion.

HallowedMimic · 05/04/2017 17:44

Most people will pronounce it just fine.

Hermione in Harry Potter was a great learning opportunity. Grin

user1491323019 · 05/04/2017 17:44

Callia and Calla are nicer IMO but it's not my baby Grin

OverAndAbove · 05/04/2017 17:45

Any Greys Anatomy viewer will know exactly how to pronounce it!

I do love it and think Cally is nice too

ThreeLeggedHaggis · 05/04/2017 17:45

Most people will pronounce it just fine.

They really won't.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 05/04/2017 17:45

i always think of Cantaloupe when i see Calliope, AND I want to say Cantar-lo-pee

QuestionableMouse · 05/04/2017 17:45

I love it!

mygorgeousmilo · 05/04/2017 17:45

I like it.... the Greek muse. I'd say prepare for the friends and family talking you out of it.

floraeasy · 05/04/2017 17:45

I think of calliper.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2017 17:45

Never watched Greys Anatomy and I would have pronounced it wrong.

19lottie82 · 05/04/2017 17:46

I think it's horrendous, sorry. And the poor kid will have to spend their whole life having to explain how to pronounce / spell it.

titianlove · 05/04/2017 17:46

Reminds me of the Thomas the Tank engine episode where he has to transport a caliope.

It's a huge loud musical instrument. I think I'd rather find a nicer name for my daughter

Isadora2007 · 05/04/2017 17:46

I like it but dislike cally. So it's a no from me sadly.

ThreeLeggedHaggis · 05/04/2017 17:47

Also, do we really need this shit in AIBU? Isn't there already a whole board for names?

user1491323019 · 05/04/2017 17:47

I love Cally but everyone will thinks it's Kelly.

SilverBirchWithout · 05/04/2017 17:48

He/she will be called Cal or Callie by their friends when older, which is fine.
Confused older people (like myself!) will think the name is Calico.

It's OK, but IMO a little bit harsh-sounding as a name, sounding like gallopy or jallopy.
