I prefer Stanley for a girl Grin

Isn't a calliope a big gas producing musical instrument? Grin

KitKats28 · 05/04/2017 19:01

Hopefully whatever you call her, you spell it with a capital letter.

Mulledwine1 · 05/04/2017 19:01

I prefer it to Noah.

DonaldStott · 05/04/2017 19:02

I prefer Stanley for a girl

Is that pronounced St-ean-lay Grin

soundsystem · 05/04/2017 19:03

I love it. Yes. A lot of people will mispronounce it on the first attempt.m, but then you/DD will tell them who it's pronounced and they'll get it right next time. Not a huge deal.

It was on my list for DS I'd he'd been a girl, along with Persephone and Hermione...

Goingtobeawesome · 05/04/2017 19:04

I love GA too but can't get the pronunciation at all.

hmcAsWas · 05/04/2017 19:06

Don't like it all. Sounds pretentious and is quite ugly. Please don't be offended - you asked for opinions and I thought about sugar coating my response but that would have disguised my reaction to it - which isn't helpful?

Sorry ..and of course you should name your baby as you wish and follow through on your own convictions.

HotelEuphoria · 05/04/2017 19:08

I have never watched Greys soooo had never heard of the name, I thought it was made up. Don't do it. I know someone (England) called Assumpta after a Ballykissangel character, she has spent every single one of her 18 years hearing "what?"

inkydinky · 05/04/2017 19:11

I like it and have a dear friend with the name. Though she's known as Popi. If you love it, use it!

DoubleR · 05/04/2017 19:11

I think it's fine, I know a little girl called Calliope, it gets shortened to Callie, no one bats an eyelid when her mum says her full name and I've never heard anyone pronounce it incorrectly.

GrannyHeadology · 05/04/2017 19:12

Nope I love it, I worked with a Calliope a few years ago, she went by Calli mostly. She was lovely too

Veronicat · 05/04/2017 19:13

I love it, along with Calista.

fernanie · 05/04/2017 19:14

Then again I do think MN is probably worse for this type of thing.

This. There are many things I like about MN but I'd never come here for baby name advice. People in the real world are far less judge and far more open minded IME.

fernanie · 05/04/2017 19:15

*judgy

RortyCrankle · 05/04/2017 19:17

Ghastly.

thatstoast · 05/04/2017 19:18

To your face maybe. Wink

I think it's ok. Felicia Day has named her baby Calliope Maeve recently.

FerdinandsRevenge · 05/04/2017 19:20

Oh love that! I'd have used it if I'd thought about it!

FerdinandsRevenge · 05/04/2017 19:22

soundsysten both of those were on my list too!

lazyarse123 · 05/04/2017 19:22

I can pronounce it and know who it was but, i also always associate it with the fairground music. I agree with pp about having to explain her name and spell it all her life.

daisypond · 05/04/2017 19:23

It's a nice name. I know someone called this. No harder to pronounce than any of the other Greek names - Penelope, Hermione, Persephone, etc.

Mrs9C · 05/04/2017 19:24

Grey's Anatomy name!

Mrs9C · 05/04/2017 19:24

I actually like it Smile

Dearlittleflo · 05/04/2017 19:24

I love it.

FerdinandsRevenge · 05/04/2017 19:25

Weird that posters call it too trendy but also too unusual Hmm

Applebite · 05/04/2017 19:26

Aren't they creepy haunting empty roundabout instruments? Really sorry OP but that's what I think of! Maybe Callie instead?

But who gives a shit what I think, if you like it, it's not like you want to call her bumface, so go for it :)))
