AIBU to think Katie Hopkins is straying closer and closer to the line that separates legitimate "right wing" politics, and unacceptable "far right" extremism?

I find this article a) utterly incoherent in its argument and b) utterly abhorrent in its content....

Yesterday's attack is deeply deeply saddening- we live in London and we're heartbroken that this has happened again- but I actually find Katie's bile almost as saddening and troubling- as I fear these are views held by many many more people... sure these are just words, and yesterday saw vile, violent actions... but those actions would have begun with words of hate and anger too...

Katie Hopkins is an insidious person with publicity afforded to her by an equally insidious paper. Capitalising on a tragedy to spread hate is illegal, but somehow she and that shitty paper get away with it daily.

Just ignore her. And certainly don't put up daily fail links.

Normally I prefer to ignore that woman, but this is getting beyond annoying and into inciting hatred.

Sadiq Khan didn't ban bikini pictures as a modesty issue, but as a girls self esteem issue. He has daughters. They wear western dress for what it matters (it doesn't matter to me, my feminism is the one where women can wear what they want)

She is implying a fathers attempts to stop all our girls feeling like they should be unhealthily skinny is linked to terrorism because of the colour of his skin.

I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her, she is a nasty liar.

I love Katie Hopkins, no shame. I hated her to start with but now I agree with the large majority of what she says, she does speak for the silent majority. I've had the pleasure of meeting her and she is a lovely, polite woman. But many people don't agree with her and that's okay, if you don't like what she has to say then just don't read it, simple as.

They roll her out for this kind of stuff all the time.

Yes she's an unpalatable bigot, but regrettably there is often a kernel of truth in her words. That's way she's teflon-coated.

What is she saying that is fanatical?

There is a lot of truth in what she writes, I'm afraid, however much I detest the Daily Mail.

We need to say that Islam has to modernise. This is because taken literally, the writings require these acts to be done and approve them. Other religious writings do not require this and are therefore able to be interpreted as inappropriate.

This is not to say of course that all people who follow one religion are terrorists. There are millions of moderate muslims. But there is something inherently problematic with a religion that won't allow a modern interpretation to its writings. And vulnerable young men are swayed by that.

I live in London. I 100%, totally agree with her.
It needs to stop.

I think we do live in a bubble sadly, as shown by the brexit shock result and the maps where London and Scotland were dominated by remain votes and the rest of England a very different story.

I think Katie Hopkins is only slightly more extreme than a huge amount of people's attitudes.

However by listening to her it's easy to dismiss the massive step further right that politics has taken on the grounds that its extremist nonsense. We can no longer dismiss such extreme right views as 'not worth engaging with', as it's by lefties and liberals failure to engage that has left us with this unexpected surge to the right in the first place (as much as I hate to say it).

Ugh. Politics at the moment is pretty bloody depressing.

It would still be right wing extremism. Being "popular" wouldn't make it less extremist.

Fitness - I don't think there is anyone saying it doesn't need to stop but that "article" doesn't explain how.

She's disgusting. And the article makes no sense at all. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and I remember pretty much every sporting event or concert I went to was subject to a bomb threat beforehand. There were a number of major incidents near to where I live now. There have always been and will always be violent extremists, with a multitude of causes they claim as excuses for killing innocent people. Multicultural society is not the cause.

What we live with today is no different to what we lived with when I was a child.

That's not to say we shouldn't try to prevent it; and I think our security services must do an incredible job protecting us from things we never even hear about. I'm not sure what KH wants apart from publicity). She doesn't propose a solution. I don't believe there is one.

Boopsy - if you look back at the recent terror attacks (not this one as we don't know the person who did it yet), they were carried out by people for the most part born and bred in the UK. The fitted in just fine but that didn't stop them from turning to terrorism. The problem with your niece is awful but I can't see what it has to do with terrorism.

boopsy I'd say men calling women slags in the street based on what they are wearing is very much a traditionally British activity. Sounds like they fit right in to me.

Well, I haven't read the article and don't want to click on the DM link. But Katie Hopkins is a vile individual and I think I can probably imagine the bile that she will be spouting. She is a disgrace.

boopsy - this is what happens when people take advantage of a permissive country with freedom of speech. I don't see extremists living it up in a Saudi Arabia.

I wonder if she'd have been as quick to criticise Catholics/Irish in the 1980's when the IRA were placing bombs and attempting assassinations. We'll always have idiots inciting hatred, I just hope no-one is attacked due to someone reading stuff like this.

Hopkins is too young to remember that this sort of violence in the capital and elsewhere is not new. But hey, why let a simple fact get in the way of her blind, hateful prejudice.
