To wonder why it's so transphobic here?

Really what's the big deal if a transwoman uses the women's toilets or changing rooms - they are women after all!

Can you not possibly imagine how hard it must be to be born into the wrong body? Imagine the pain and distress that must cause?

I have a friend who is a transwoman and she is the kindest most gentle soul you could ever meet so hearing her being referred to as a bloke in a dress or that she has a perverted fetish is just heartbreaking.

Can't we just show a little bit of empathy for these people who have been through so much pain already?

I don't see much transphobia on here.

I do see lots of people asking important questions about the rather Emperor's New Clothes aspects of current transactivist thinking.

I have every sympathy for someone who is body dysmorphic. But I have serious concerns about the way the current debate is going.

ThymeLord · 22/03/2017 13:01

" Read the other threads and you'll see why MN'ers hate them"

That's outright deliberate goady fuckery. Find a post on any of the many trans threads where anyone expresses hate for a transperson. I'll wait.

BeyondUser24601 · 22/03/2017 13:01

It is not just like being gay!

LadyPW · 22/03/2017 13:01

Can we have a bet on how many pages this thread will run for? I call 27 with numerous deletions by MN. Though my second choice is for deletion of the entire thread within 3 pages because MN are sick of reading the same posts over and over. Grin

ALemonyPea · 22/03/2017 13:01

They're not women, they're trans women. There's a big difference.

If they had their own gender box to tick in places, then it wouldn't be as big of an issue as it is.

user1490186326 · 22/03/2017 13:01

Why are people so convinced that transwomen are going to rape them or assault them in the toilets? They just want to get on with their lives. Transwomen are in far more danger than women and much more likely to be assaulted.

OP posts:
LadyPW · 22/03/2017 13:02

And please don't compare it to being gay!

BorpBorpBorp · 22/03/2017 13:02

I think it seems so transphobic here because the "man in a dress" crowd have demonstrated their ability to keep going "penis! male! rapist! gender doesn't exist but somehow it's also essentially linked to genetalia!" etc. etc. loud and long, and no amount of debate will change their minds, so people who realise that trans women are women not boogeymen, or people who don't know or care (probably most members on here) eventually just disengage.

user1490186326 · 22/03/2017 13:02

But how are womens rights being trampled on? I don't understand it.

OP posts:
Applebite · 22/03/2017 13:03

Really?

Yawn.

There is little, if any, transphobia here. There is a huge amount of concern for the erosion of women's rights. Perhaps we should all transition to men to take advantage of their rights?

noeffingidea · 22/03/2017 13:03

user I think quite a lot of gay people might disagree with you there.

ThymeLord · 22/03/2017 13:03

It's quite impossible to take you seriously when you come out with drivel such as being trans is like being gay.

RestlessTraveller · 22/03/2017 13:03

I have read every trans thread on here and I'm completely with you. I've even made the same comment about likening it to other types of discrimination and was completely vilified. Personally I don't feel threatened at all by penises, but some people clearly are. I also wonder if there would be the same
backlash about female to male transitioners. Like you I have a trans friend and I have supported her through her struggle to be comfortable in her own body. Maybe that's why we can empathise.

Gallavich · 22/03/2017 13:03

Trans people suffer more from discrimination than any other marginalised group

Evidence?

are incredibly vulnerable

Even late transitioning adult males with no hormone treatment ? More vulnerable than women?

and at high risk of suicide and self harm

No more than other populations with mental health disorders. The highest rates of suicide are middle aged men.

MadMags · 22/03/2017 13:03

It's very clear that you don't understand it.

I'm not afraid that I'm going to get raped in the toilets. Hmm

That doesn't stop a male being a male. Biology is not discrimination.

user1490186326 · 22/03/2017 13:03

Do you really think a man is just going to stick on a wig and a dress and pretend to be trans so he can assault women in the toilets?

OP posts:
ThymeLord · 22/03/2017 13:04

There are probably hundreds of threads on the subject user, perhaps use a couple to educate yourself.

BeyondUser24601 · 22/03/2017 13:04

You are clearly goading

£20 on the whole thing zapped in three pages as OP is a PBP

ImFuckingSpartacus · 22/03/2017 13:04

Do you really think a man is just going to stick on a wig and a dress and pretend to be trans so he can assault women in the toilets?

Since that has happened, yes, on occasion. But that isn't actually the fucking point.

ThymeLord · 22/03/2017 13:04

Why do you keep repeating the point about assault in toilets? Do you think that's the only issue?

user1490186326 · 22/03/2017 13:05

What are the other issues then? Educate me.

OP posts:
noeffingidea · 22/03/2017 13:06

user educate yourself.

ThymeLord · 22/03/2017 13:06

Educate yourself. As I, and many others have said, there are plenty of threads to read on the subject.

Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 13:06

This needs its own section so all the threads can get moved there. Seriously.
