To be fucking furious this is happening to women's sports

For all those who think trans politics doesn't affect you or your daughters - please read this article of a male forcing women out of their sport and the authorities are letting this happen. If you don't give a shiney shit about this incident - what exactly will it take for you to sit up and take notice and start saying enough.

There's no trans hate or transphobia or any of those ridiculous terms that people like to bandy about. Women objecting to being erased and othered is categorically not hate or a phobia of any kind.

Isadora2007 · 19/03/2017 19:58

Maybe the future of sports will change to reflect the spectrum of bodies that humans can have. And may change to not favour a male not female approach...

It annoys me that my dd as a gymnast can't just do her skills for floor but has to shimmy around and point her toes and dance and prance between movements. Whereas her male counterparts get to just do the skills with some small but neat steps to join them up.
I'd prefer a more straightforward approach... so maybe future gymnastics will have a mid category that anyone can enter? Or other sports ?

noeffingidea · 19/03/2017 19:58

Isadora perhaps you could try and be a bit more compassionate about the women in this event who have spent countless hours training and pushing their bodies to the limits, only to be cheated out of any chance of winning by a male bodied person, with all the physiological advantages that entails.
Perhaps you could try a bit of compassion for Tamika Brents, who was beaten to a pulp by Fallon Fox, a transgender MMA competitor.
Or don't women matter to you?

ageingrunner · 19/03/2017 19:59

It's taking the piss for this person to claim to be a woman. In what way are they a woman?!

ThymeLord, you are so right it isn't all about me despite the OP saying, "For all those who think trans politics doesn't affect you or your daughters" well for lots of people it doesn't affect us. This might be a shock to sports lovers but it isn't all about you.

LumelaMme · 19/03/2017 20:00

Granny, could you please stop derailing the thread? It's bloody annoying. We get it: you don't like sport. Start your own thread if you want to bind on about it.

(FWIW, I'm not that interested in sport either, but I am interested in feminism).

Isadora, I too have spent a lot of time on the FWR board like Thymelord. I have seen precious little in the way of 'trans hate', but I did participate in a long and civilised discussion with a transwoman - who actually sounded like a lovely person.

stitchglitched · 19/03/2017 20:01

Yes they should give it up. Sport is sex segregated. Why should their wish to continue override fairness for the female athletes who also love their sport and have trained hard for it. I'm struggling to believe anyone could defend a male weightlifter who lifted 19kg more than their nearest rival competing in female sport.

Have you heard of Fallon Fox? Another transwoman just doing what they love in MMA. Which involves knocking out women, breaking their cheekbones and accusing any woman scared to fight them of being a transphobic bigot.

LumelaMme · 19/03/2017 20:02

And for those who haven't noticed yet, it's about so much more than sport.

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 20:02

Isadora, hope that happens for her. Why should her gymnastics be judged in such a sexist way?

ThymeLord · 19/03/2017 20:02

I hate sport granny. I'd rather sit on my arse than do anything remotely sporty. It's not about me or my likes and dislikes. It's about other women and girls.

QueenLaBeefah · 19/03/2017 20:02

Women really are being erased. Utter disgrace.

noeffingidea · 19/03/2017 20:03

granny that's fine, but why bother discussing it then? This thread is specifically about womens sports. I don't go onto threads about, say, antenatal groups, because I'm not pregnant and have no interest in it.
You may have a valid point about funding for dementia care , so why not start a tgread about it instead of attempting to derail this one?

ladyballs · 19/03/2017 20:03

YANBU at all.

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 20:05

Lumela the post was really addressed to people like me who don't think trans politics affects me. Why do that and then say we aren't entitled to comment, if you want a lets all moan about transwomen and sport why not start one?

Now censorship, that I don't like, everyone is entitled to express their opinion.

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/03/2017 20:06

isadora if your DD competed against boys/men in third category she would surely never win or be selected for any teams etc etc. Neither would any other girl in all likelihood.

Regarding the prancing and twirling in women's gym that doesn't exist for men, isn't the solution to change the requirements for women's gym to not have those elements?

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 19/03/2017 20:06

Granny, although this thread refers to an article about a sport.... the politics involved are not confined to sports.

You're coming across as a bit of an idiot. Give it a rest.

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 20:07

Troll, read the first post. At least I can read.

stitchglitched · 19/03/2017 20:09

If you're interested in elderly care granny you might like to think about elderly hospital patients who may lose their privacy, dignity and sometimes safety by being forced to share intimate spaces by people who 'identify' as the opposite sex. Same principle applies.

An elite female athlete lost her place on the team to make way for this man. How completely and utterly unfair for her.

HumphreyCobblers · 19/03/2017 20:10

It is indeed disgraceful.

It was the IOC ruling about transwomen competing as women that brought this whole sorry mess to my attention.

Men have been beating women in many sports in the last few years, I recall a letter in the Times about Women's fencing being dominated by a MTT. Women were complaining about it but nothing was done. Fallon Fox beating up their female opponent is a famous case.

It will just happen more and more.

And men WON'T have to make massive effort and 'live' as women (whatever the fuck that means anyway) in order to compete as women. If Maria Miller's bill goes through it will be a case of adjusting their testosterone so that it is only about three times as high as the women who are competing.

Anyone who thinks that men won't take advantage of this rule in order to win at sport is naive.

Billybonkers76 · 19/03/2017 20:13

I don't think granny actually understands the point of the post. Bless her. It's making me laugh that she thinks it's about sport!

NotYoda · 19/03/2017 20:13

granny

It might be an issue for you if 'self-identified 'women end up in womens' hospital wards

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 20:17

I was in hospital last month on a mixed ward. So wouldn't make alot of difference.

One thing this thread shows is how unpleasant some people are.

Billybonkers, don't worry I know perfectly well this was just another opportunity to have a rant about transwomen. Wasn't very well disguised was it, and the usual attitudes show themselves just like all the other anti trans threads.

napmeistergeneral · 19/03/2017 20:18

YANBU. It is a disgrace. I certainly think there would be much more of an outcry if trans men were winning against men. Unfortunately, given the old muscoskeletal advantage, that's unlikely to happen at anything like the frequency or level needed to make the point.
