To be fucking furious this is happening to women's sports

For all those who think trans politics doesn't affect you or your daughters - please read this article of a male forcing women out of their sport and the authorities are letting this happen. If you don't give a shiney shit about this incident - what exactly will it take for you to sit up and take notice and start saying enough.

It will also make it practically pointless for any girls to want to excel in sport, from a very young age, because no matter how good they get, they'll be beaten by a man calling himself Julie.

Sallysadlyseescertainty · 19/03/2017 19:43

But how many Trans women, or Trans women athletes, can there possibly be out there?

Genuinely curious.

JacquesHammer · 19/03/2017 19:44

granny educate yourself. The money sports receives from the lottery is vital from grassroots up. It gives so many kids who have no chance of participating the chance to get involved. I was involved in a project that received funding which acted to provide diversionary activities in an area of massive poverty and high youth crime. The crime dropped massively when we started providing sports.

And how can you not care when this will effect women from primary school age up? HOW as a woman can't you care? I find that appalling

DameDeDoubtance · 19/03/2017 19:45

He is not a woman and has no right to compete against women. Will someone please stand up for women?

Isadora2007 · 19/03/2017 19:45

Would they be allowed to compete as a man though if they had undergone gender reassignment?

I honestly don't understand all the trams hatred here... do people honestly think someone would go through the heartache and difficulty of changing gender and living as a woman simply to get one over on women in their chosen sport? Or to cop a look at women in the loo or whatever?

I honestly just don't understand why we can't be more compassionate about people who have decided for whatever reason to live as another gender.

ThymeLord · 19/03/2017 19:46

I will. I am. I won't be silenced.

Isadora2007 · 19/03/2017 19:46

*trans hatred
MNers don't seem to hate 🚋 🚋 s quite as much!

JacquesHammer · 19/03/2017 19:46

I don't hate trans at ALL. And that's such a lazy point of view.

As a massive player/provider of sport I am genuinely concerned as to how this will effect female athletes.

ThymeLord · 19/03/2017 19:47

You can't live as another gender, gender is a social construct. You can want to present as the opposite sex but that doesn't mean you will become the opposite sex.

ivykaty44 · 19/03/2017 19:48

Jacques, yes big waste. Look at all the lottery money that goes to sport when the NHS and social services are creaking. Oh the irony of this post.....

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/03/2017 19:48

Sally do the numbers matter to the women who cannot compete because of a male bodied person having an inbuilt advantage?

There seems to be an increasing number, given the recent massive upswing in numbers of young people being seen at gender identity clinics, and the number of late transitioners. Combined with the shift to self identification of gender rather than requiring a medically certified gender recognition certificate.

ThymeLord · 19/03/2017 19:49

Id be interested to see the "trans hate" posts. I must have missed them.

stitchglitched · 19/03/2017 19:50

Well maybe when you decide to transition then you need to accept that your sporting career is over instead of making your feelings more important than fairness. Although it is interesting to see that this person didn't 'become a woman' until nearly 40 when their career as a male had ended.

StiginaGrump · 19/03/2017 19:51

Makes me mad

justdontevenfuckingstart · 19/03/2017 19:52

So my 6'4 oh could decide to be a woman and then for example compete in wrestling in the women's category. Utterly ridiculous.

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 19:53

Jacques, you don't seem to understand. I don't care about sport, I don't want to watch sport, support sport, listen to people whine about sport. If a man can lift bigger weights than women then he is better at that sport. If you can only win by excluding other people you aren't really winning are you? Maybe women should concentrate on sports that they can really excel in if they want to win the awards, you know not have special concessions so they can pretend they are the best.

I can honestly say the most miserable hours of my life were being forced to take part in sports at school closely followed by having to support my kids at sports. You know like watching them in a judo competition when another mother is urging her child to cripple mine. Where else would that be accepted? Listen to parents swearing at an under 11s football match, some of them being abusive to their own kids.

You can ban it all as far as I'm concerned.

LumelaMme · 19/03/2017 19:53

I don't hate trans people at all.

But I am worried about what will happen to women's sport if this sort of thing becomes common. It wouldn't take many trans athletes for them to dominate the higher levels of women's sports.

GerardNoWay · 19/03/2017 19:53

This makes me angry.

But god forbid we should speak out on the subject and not be branded trans phobic or TERFs or whatever the term is for individuals who can look critically at this and see the huge flaws and downsides for women.

Thymelord just visit the feminist board...

Stitch- perhaps she felt like she needed to do such a "manly" sport like weights initially due to not feeling like a man. Then over the years even being the manliest of men hasn't helped her feel less female. So now she is honest with herself and family and friends.
Should she have to give up
Something she loves and has worked hard for all her life?

ThymeLord · 19/03/2017 19:55

It may come as a surprise to you granny, but this isnt all about you. Hmm

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/03/2017 19:55

"do people honestly think someone would go through the heartache and difficulty of changing gender and living as a woman simply to get one over on women in their chosen sport?" No, I don't think that's the reason why they transition. I do think that an unfortunate side effect of transition is that they cannot fairly compete against women. The case of this weightlifter shows just how unfair an advantage a transwoman can have. Perhaps a category for transwomen and another category for transmen in sport is the way to go.

ThymeLord · 19/03/2017 19:56

I visit the FWR board frequently Isadora.

ivykaty, irony? Do you think the elderly with dementia could all be fine if they had done a bit of weight lifting? I don't think so. NHS and Social Service provision for them is appalling and I would rather be in a country where there was good provision for them than be in a country that has more gold medals than anyone else.
