To be fucking furious this is happening to women's sports

For all those who think trans politics doesn't affect you or your daughters - please read this article of a male forcing women out of their sport and the authorities are letting this happen. If you don't give a shiney shit about this incident - what exactly will it take for you to sit up and take notice and start saying enough.

What would attract viewers (not me but those who watch boxing/MMA) , imo, is trans against trans. Perhaps that will be the next thing. A bit fairer at least.

Missswatch · 19/03/2017 20:47

While we're about it, what about having a really good go at reprogramming ourselves not to be so violent?

What are they going to do in MMA matches? Tickle each other to death?

SlowSwimmingMom · 19/03/2017 20:49

Apologies for the bad spelling in my last post.

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 20:52

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g, I agree with everything in your post except the bit about sport. I know there have always been people who felt they were in the wrong body but it does seem to be growing at an alarming rate. I think it is really strange than after all the progress that has been made on equality that sexual stereotype are stronger than ever. When I was a kid in the 50s my favourite toy was my Zoro outfit, hat, mask and sword, my sister's favourite was a cowboy hat, holster and cap guns. No one batted an eyelid. So many little girls seem to have to wear pink and worry about fashion and make up at an earlier an earlier age. Same for boys, I can remember my brother dressing up in my mothers clothes and make up and my youngest son was obsessed with being a Disney princess for a year or so. Again it was no issue. Now we would all be being pushed towards gender reassignment if what we read is to be believed. It is very sad.

TheQuestingVole · 19/03/2017 20:52

If anyone thinks this is only going to be a problem for elite athletes they are very much mistaken (and why should we care any less even if it were something that only affected elite women?).

It will be the whole of organised competitive sport, in almost every field, right down to the county, club and school level.

The whole point of women's sport is to carve out a space in which women's bodies can be athletically competitive. Not to recognise gender feelings. If you put a male body in that space it negates the whole point of that space, and is, well, unsporting.

It has taken about a hundred years of organised women's sport to get rough parity of inclusion in top level competitions. We still don't have parity of esteem in terms of coverage of women's sports or athletes' pay or prize money. And now it is all about to slip away anyway.

The kind of body that you have matters, and the point of women's sport is that it recognises that.

HappyFlappy · 19/03/2017 20:53

I certainly think there would be much more of an outcry if trans men were winning against men.

So do I. It's already started in a way. Whereas transwomen are allowed into women's changing rooms, lavatories etc, I'm pretty sure that transmen aren't extended the same courtesies in gyms etc.

And granny - I hate sport too. I think it's as boring as hell. If it were up to me it would certainly never be on TV taking up valuable airtime when I could be watching Miss Marple. But other people do enjoy it, and as I am not a goady twonk like some people I graciously allow them their simple pleasure.

However, I don't want to see any woman unfairly disadvantaged.

And if you really are a "granny", I wonder how happy you would bee if your six year old grandchild was competing against fifteen year olds and beaten in every sport - after all, the bigger, older kids would be deserving of the victory because they are bigger, stronger, faster etc.

Transwomen are disadvantaging those who are born female. And this is even to the extent of skewing violent crime figures. (Transwomen are disproportionately represented among violent offenders, but aren't differentiated in the overall figures.)

You may not care if your female grandchildren are crushed by patriarchy, but I bloody do!

HappyFlappy · 19/03/2017 20:55

Trans people need protection from discrimination but women need protection from this encroachment into their hard fought for equality with men and their women only spaces.

Excellently put Weasel

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 19/03/2017 20:56

It will be the whole of organised competitive sport, in almost every field, right down to the county, club and school level.

Maybe women can invade disability sports the way men transwomen have invaded ours?

"I feel I was meant to be a C5 tetraplegic therefore I am."

We can keep winning cuz all that matters is our feelz.

HappyFlappy, I have 4 grandchildren, I dutifully support them at various sports. Some have mixed ages based on weight, some are boys and girls, some are just boys or just girls. One of my grandchildren wins regularly, one rarely wins but enjoys it.

I am old enough to have been involved in fighting for rights for women that you probably take for granted. My daughter and granddaughter are in no way crushed by anyone or anything.

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 20:59

HappyFlappy, well we all can see you for the mature, reasonable woman you are. An example to little girls everywhere.

HappyFlappy · 19/03/2017 20:59

Superb post Vole

ShakingAndShocked · 19/03/2017 21:00

'It's all about you isn't it granny? You weren't bothered so no one else should be'

Actually, I think Granny is FAR from 'not bothered' here (witness her comment vis 'level on abuse on this one higher' etc. Granny has very fucking cleverly feigned ignorance and disinterest in first instance to then PRECISELY make the point she wanted to all along - IE we're a bunch of 'trans bashing' cunts for having the temerity to even dare QUESTION the madness this is creating in sport or the broader issues of a total impending loss of safe women-only spaces.

Anyway 'Granny' (who I suspect is probably Mike from Runcorn), you've made your point love, so why not let others be able to make theirs without you constantly either derailing it &/or referring to 'the abuse has started/ is strong here' Hmm

JacquesHammer · 19/03/2017 21:01

granny are you really comparing children playing in mixed teams with adults competing against members of the opposite sex?!

I played (and now coach) rugby. Can you really NOT see how it would be massively different for pre-pubescent children playing on the same team to an adult male playing against an adult female?!

TheQuestingVole · 19/03/2017 21:01

Ah that's not how it works VeryBitchy - women's feelz are always at the bottom of the hierarchy of feelz, doncha know.

AuroraBora · 19/03/2017 21:01

Grannie do you not realise that males and females are biologically different? Men are naturally stronger and bigger than women, so to have mixed sex sports at a pro level would never happen as the stronger, faster men would get picked over the women.

Your kids or grandkids or whatever may play in mixed sex teams, but extend the concept of a school or local kids team up to a national level or Olympic team and imagine the coach picking the best players, and you'll realise that the teams would end up probably all men. Particularly in sports where strength is the main skill.

Sports should be split by sex. Not by gender. We are equal, but we aren't the same.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/03/2017 21:01

I have reported the 'not critically enough' comment- unnecessary and a really shitty thing to say

BoneyBackJefferson · 19/03/2017 21:02

HappyFlappy

Whereas transwomen are allowed into women's changing rooms, lavatories etc, I'm pretty sure that transmen aren't extended the same courtesies in gyms etc

So if you don't know is it really a valid point?

stitchglitched · 19/03/2017 21:02

I doubt any one will turn down treatment they desperately need granny. They might just be frightened, distressed, embarrassed, uncomfortable and suck it up because they feel they have no choice. Doesn't make it acceptable though.

HappyFlappy · 19/03/2017 21:02

A flawed, but much better example than you granny.

BTW - if your grandchildren are competing in sports that allow mixed ages based on weight - how is that fair, by your reckoning? Surely the big strong heavy ones should be in with the teeny weeny ones.

Or are your grandchildren all huge for their age and therefore able to crush the opposition at any sport and any level?

1horatio · 19/03/2017 21:03

Sorry can't get upset about sport. Biggest waste of time and money when people get all serious about it. Do it for fun fine, get all serious never.

Right, I used to do martial arts (still do, but very reduced...) So does my brother (he still does judo) and many of my cousins.

Was it a job? no (nearly was, admittedly...). But if I was suddenly facing a man? Somebody that went through male puberty? Or even started to do so?

Which means on average a higher lung capacity, longer arms (and therefore a much bigger reach), longer legs, harder bones and potentially even more muscles?

the chances of being grievously and potentially permanently injured would be drastically heightened.

This is also especially pertinent because there has been at least one case of a trans woman lying about being a biological male in combat sports at a professional level. I don't even want to know how many do during amateur competitions/tournaments...

So, their chosen victim won't even have the opportunity to forfeit for her own protection.

grannytomine · 19/03/2017 21:04

Jacques, I referred to the sports my grandchildren do as people early were saying this would affect childrens sport.

HappyFlappy · 19/03/2017 21:04

I am not sorry Livia

I knew it was a controversial comment. On this occasion, I didn't care.

1horatio · 19/03/2017 21:05

Trans people need protection from discrimination but women need protection from this encroachment into their hard fought for equality with men and their women only spaces.

Exactly.
