Thanks dum Brew

Thanks Dum

Yay! New thread. Just in time for the chaos that is the new travel order. Grin

GingerIvy · 06/03/2017 15:31

I note rumour is saying it will ban ALL refugees from anywhere for 120 days.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2017 15:31

I sure hope that those doing the 11.30 briefing are real squeaky clean. (What with other parts of their administration dissing the FBI and all. Wink)

From media advisory re #Trump travel ban: 'Secy Kelly, Secy Tillerson and AG Sessions 'will deliver remarks only. There will be no Q&A.'

Thanks for the new thread Dum

From BBC on the new EO:

"What is different about the new order?

While the text of the new executive order has not yet been published, Ms Conway, a senior aide to Mr Trump, told Fox News that Iraq would be left off the list of countries whose citizens will banned from the US.
Citizens of Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, the other six countries on the original list, would once more be subject to a 90-day travel ban.

Ms Conway also said that green card holders (legal permanent residents of the US) from the named countries will not be affected by the new order.
Refugees would be banned from entry for 120 days, according to Reuters. But Ms Conway indicated that Syrian refugees would no longer be indefinitely barred.

GingerIvy · 06/03/2017 15:34

Of course no Q&A. Can you imagine the train wreck???

AcrossthePond55 · 06/03/2017 15:35

Thanks for the new thread. I just did a long post on t'other one regarding Scrotus' possible 'impeaching himself'.

People might be forgetting that Watergate didn't blow overnight - it just kept building and building over time.

Different personalities of course.

Dumdedumdedum · 06/03/2017 15:43

Indeed, cozie, and also, very different technology, which I think makes a difference to the time frame here, perhaps?

Cheers for the thread making dum what a fantastic thread, so great, so bigly.

That president had lost - at least a significant part of - his intel community as well. Wink

Grin I seem to have an uncanny ability to post on this just before a thread ends! So this time I'll copy it across, just in case.

WHOA
^DHS will issue twice a year reports counting and detailing violence against women, including honor killings, by foreign nationals pic.twitter.com/95bbVVDIfy^
A new WH factsheet forwarded to me, & dated today.

I posted:

Both 45 and Steve Bannon have been accused by their now ex-wives of violent assault.

I don't have the energy to articulate this fully today, but it seems all part of a piece with at least one Trumpette who appeared on MN with a loud "I'm a feminist, me" schtick, and was oh so tenderly concerned about the rights of women... right up until it was her hero boasting about assaulting women.

In particular, there was a 30 page thread (now gone the way of all Chat threads) which she basically spammed with repetitive claims that Hilary was an evil anti-woman anti-Christ. Not advancing the discussion, just same message different words, post after post.

Then the 45 "pussy" recording came out and the Trumpette went very quiet.

She re-emerged a page or two on wanting to talk about her bath, shaving her legs, what to drink...

Nevertheless, I persisted.wink So she switched to victim-blaming.

And she vanished Poof! the morning after the election.

This is one of the incidents I had in mind, when I mentioned a few weeks ago that I felt were people attempting to appropriate feminist concerns to "steer" discussion on MN.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/03/2017 16:03

Nixon also alienated his staff with tantrums and betrayal. Something that it appears Trump may well be on his way to doing. Hopefully someone will get pissed off enough (or drunk enough) to talk to the 'right' person.

The Watergate break-in and arrests were in June 1972, Nixon didn't resign until August 1974. He was actually re-elected in Nov 1972. That's two years from the discovery of the attempts to plant bugs at the DNC to resignation. But Nixon, in that interim period, wasn't determined to push through an agenda that will ruin the country and alienate our allies so although it was two years, the country as a whole came out of it 'ok'.

There's no telling exactly how much damage Trump and his cronies can inflict if it takes two years to get him out of office.

Neverthelessshepersisted · 06/03/2017 16:05

loved the "Gotta go Kellyanne" from the Fox News presenter (who seemed rather good).

Thanks for keeping up with all this!

Shock That's me. nothing to add.
Dumdedumdedum · 06/03/2017 16:22

Sorry, this is me going off at a massive tangent again - I'm watching the new CBS series, "The Good Fight", spin-off from "The Good Wife". Diane Lockhart's face in the first scene when Trump is being sworn in - just like all of ours, I reckon!

OP posts:
Dumdedumdedum · 06/03/2017 16:24

Just to add, I genuinely can't watch "The West Wing" again for the moment as it is so far removed from the truth we are living through that I have to cry (despair and anger alternating).

Try house of cards. It's like a documentary.

BiglyBadgers · 06/03/2017 16:29

Nice new thread. I am hoping this wont take two years to sort out, but it could be a while I fear. What state the world will be in by the time Trump finally goes I dread to think Confused
