Not sure why that headline and link appeared twice.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 18:23

The continued questioning about 'Russia' makes them nervous, Bigly. Wink

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 18:27

Oh - and of course. (Re the testing impact.) That would be a consequence of Trumpcare. It likely wouldn't be the only one either.)

Lweji · 12/03/2017 18:38

The Washington Post has posted a link to this article about those who are likely to lose health care but voted for Trump.

Everytime, it makes me think of a third world country. A country that can offer the best medicine in the world, but before and again only accessible to the lucky ones with good jobs. Or depend on charities. :(

It almost feels like saying they brought it on themselves, but it's sad that they couldn't figure out what Trump was about.

There were, apparently, a surprisingly large number of people who didn't realise what the ACA was. They believed some headlines.

SanFranBear · 12/03/2017 18:48

Thanks Cozie - just wish there was some good news coming from this presidency for a change! Although having said that, the resistance and protests have been bigly good and restored my faith in people. Just seems like it's all downhill at the mo!

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 18:50

2018 is almost upon us - in electoral terms, San. Keep holding on there.

Lweji · 12/03/2017 18:55

I also meant to post this the other day:
World faces worst humanitarian crisis since 1945, says UN official

What will America First mean for these countries where famine could become reality soon?
Will other countries be enough? Will the US continue to help?

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 18:59

I doubt it.

lionheart · 12/03/2017 19:15

Louise Mensch seems to be dropping lots of hints and raising hopes on the twitter.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 12/03/2017 19:39

The RoguePOTUS twitter people regularly diss Mensch and her conspiracy theories. No love lost there, whoever they are.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 19:46

It's all pressure. Palin' interjection is likely more significant. On the Hill, anyway.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 19:46

Sorry. Palin'

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 19:47

I apologise for one very determined autocorrect here. Grin

Palin's

NotDavidTennant · 12/03/2017 19:50

Did anyone see Mensch interviewed on the Sunday Politics today? Proper car crash telly.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 12/03/2017 19:53

How so NotDavid? Has she joined David Icke in the crazies' corner?

AcrossthePond55 · 12/03/2017 19:56

What will America First mean for these countries where famine could become reality soon? Will other countries be enough? Will the US continue to help?

A very good question, Lweji. If the Trump/Bannon/Sessions agenda succeeds, on the whole I'd say there will be little, if any, help from the US Govt for any third world country. If there should be a disaster (natural or otherwise) in a country in which they have a business interest or one we 'need' for some reason, then perhaps. Or of course unless it's an historically white, Christian nation.

It will paint an ugly, ugly picture of a nation that has had a reputation for lending a helping hand and being the first to step up in a disaster.

There will always be US charities and other private organizations that will help out, but I'm sure they're a drop in the bucket to what would really be needed.

The problem with us is that we (the US) have been pretty self sufficient during disasters so we have grown arrogant that other nation's should be too, regardless of their economic status. I know there was some aid given by other countries after Katrina, but most of Trump's supporters have very short memories and I expect that very few of them lived in the areas hard hit by Katrina.

The short-sightedness of it is that Trump et al's environmental policies could very easily lead us into a natural disaster or even a famine due to a lack of clean water, thus a lack of clean water to irrigate crops with. Or a natural disaster due to chemical and particle air pollution leading to widespread respiratory illness, similar to the 'Big Smoke' that killed so many in London in the '50s. And if that time comes, and if we've withdrawn or refused aid to others, no one is going to come to our aid.

lionheart · 12/03/2017 20:01

I fear you may be right about that, Across.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 20:05

I think other countries would still help, Across. They know that it's only a minority of Americans that are fuelling these fires.

In any case, people do just help, don't they? Smile

Lweji · 12/03/2017 20:39

Didn't Mexico send people over Katrina?

I do think other countries would help, assuming border control would allow. You know, terrorists could always infiltrate. Or illegal immigrants.

ATM, I'm more concerned about countries like Somalia. :(

We don't want to go back to needing Live Aid.

MrsT2007 · 12/03/2017 21:57

I'm not dismissing Mensch just yet....she has actually been spot on about the FISA story.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 22:15

I've actually considered this question in another context, Lweji. I think people would help - because they just 'do' help each other.

cozietoesie · 12/03/2017 22:23

I grant you that the question of whether governments would help 'might' get a different answer.

AcrossthePond55 · 12/03/2017 22:24

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina

I would hope others would help. I expect they would if there hasn't been a recent situation where we refused to help those in need, iyswim.

I expect I'm 'catastrophizing'. I've been a Gloomy Gus all day. If I wasn't post-menopausal and my tits don't hurt. I'd say I was pregnant! But I probably just need a Torch.

AcrossthePond55 · 12/03/2017 22:27

That's exactly it, cozie. The people of the US would give to charities and send people and aid under private banners. But under the current regime, I seriously wonder if the Govt would come to anyone's rescue unless there was 'something in it for them'.
