AIBU.. To ask how much your wedding cost?

From what I've read, the average cost of a wedding is now £20,000-30,000! This can't be true surely? 😫

How much did your wedding cost? Any tips?

We had a medium sized wedding 60day guests and an extra 50 in the evening, champagne reception with canapés, 3course meal with drinks included, hot filled rolls for reception and a band, and it was £14000 including 2holidays masquerading as honeymoons!
I don't think we scrimped on anything but did get married in November so outwith peak wedding season which helped a lot.

£13000 ten years ago.

That included everything - destination wedding, subsidised some guests, wedding party and meals for 40, wedding dress and suits and bridesmaid stuff , three week honeymoon, church, hair, makeup, flowers, decorations, three tier cake, marriage licences, cars etc and then a big party for 140 when we got back.

Going away was a great decision for us. It's not for everyone but it neatly identified the people closest to us who were keen to come, it extended the experience as we spent much of the week with the wedding party, and we were able to get much more and better quality for our money.

120 guests 50 more in eve. 3 courses and canapés and evening food plus drinks. Didn't scrimp but did a lot myself. Married out of season 12k got 4K in gifts towards honeymoon

£1500 6 years ago. Registry office then went for a meal in a small guesthouse. Us plus 22 guests. That included honeymoon of 4 nights in Scotland but we came home early because we missed the dog!

£7500 excluding honeymoon. That was for 70 day guests and another 60 in the evening. To me it was a hell of a lot of money, but worth every single penny.

Around £20k plus £3k for honeymoon 7 years ago. It is a lot of money but I had a cracking day as did my guests

£300ish 16 years ago. Wore a suit from Primark, had two witnesses and then proceeded to eat and get merry. Was a fantastic day.

Less than £6000. You can be smart, my dress was on sale, we used my car as the wedding car, made our own cake/invitations/flower arrangements. Didn't bother with the fucking chair covers which cost loads, just had bare chairs. Made our own table settings. But the wedding didn't look like one of those diy weddings at all, you don't have to spend the deposit on a house on one day for it to be special. The thing is, the day flashes by in an instant, don't get worked up on tiny details, do what you like and are comfortable with! Oh and we got married on a Sunday, off peak time September and had 48 guests. The number of people you invite makes a massive difference, of course.

Oh ane we had about 40 day guests and about 100 evening guests. Church and big white dress, the 'full works'

23k 2 years ago including the honeymoon. Church wedding with wedding breakfast for 50 adults 15 children and eveining reception for an extra 100.

£3k in 2011. 60 guests at registry office, 5pm wedding. Reception at nearby hotel with around 50 extra guests, hot and cold buffet and ceilidh.

Mini-moon was 2 nights in a mate's apartment in a pretty coastal village, with a sea view, free gratis.

Sometimes I regret not saving/spending more. Maybe we'll do something extravagant for our 10th anniversary or something Smile

10 guests, last year. It was £650 all in - Reg Office, lunch for everyone at a local restaurant, back to ours for tea and (M&S) wedding cake.

Between the guests, DH's parents and my gran we received £5500 in cash gifts, and a refund from M&S because they sent the wrong filling. It was cash flow positive, in short Grin.

Ours is July and if I'm being fully honest will probably top out at £25-30k. They are a chuffing fortune but I'm hoping it will be absolutely worth it!

we abroad, cost about £6k all in. We paid for 4 villas next to each other, one week for everyone and the next week we just had one villa and was our honeymoon.Everyone paid own flights, got married on beach and then back to the villa for a bbq followed by lots of drinking and bar hopping. Was perfect for us

8 guests in Gretna Green and a party for 60 with disco and buffet at home. That budget included travel and accommodation for 6 to Scotland.

  • Dress was second hand
  • Photos were taken by a friend
  • Had a dj but no band at reception
  • Had a home made cake
  • Bridal party weren't given a dress code other than wear what you feel good in. Ranged from naice suits to jeans
  • Step mum did hair and makeup for me cause I'm crap
  • Didn't bother with flowers
  • Invitations were did on Word and hand delivered

It was the best day of my life! We had what we actually wanted and ignored everything else Grin

Just checked my spreadsheet from our wedding last year - it cost precisely £19,436. That was for 70 people in central London on a summer Saturday. A hell of a lot of money but it was utterly fabulous and I don't regret it.

If I had to change something it would probably be the date - we could have saved some money by keeping everything else the same but not having it in summer. I was insistent on a Saturday, though, as I didn't want people to have to take time off work.

Corkage and booze seems to be the biggest cost. If you can find a venue that doesnt charge corkage (we found a barn that didnt) and then get all your wine and prosecco etc from Majestic in Calais (Majestic actually pay for your ferry or Eurostar if you spend over £100 there) you will save a fortune! There is no limit to what you bring over either.

130 guests.

Getting married in May. £40k or so (depends what bar bill is at the end of the evening!) plus honeymoon. About £25k - £30k (again depends on eventual cost of open bar) of that is venue, food and booze.

We can afford it and it's such an important day to us that we are happy to go all out. Plus we are hoping to make some of it back by putting a money poem in the invitations Grin (JOKE, we aren't after money!)

About £16k (not including honeymoon) based in the south east, 100 day guests, 50 more in the evening, church wedding with 3 course wedding breakfast, band etc.
dress was from an outlet center and was £400, bm dresses £40 each from China (eBay), suits £100 each from next, out of season wedding, did all the table decs ourselves, invites were free (using work contacts). Money was mainly spent on the food, the band and We did have a free bar, which was £1500!
