From what I've read, the average cost of a wedding is now £20,000-30,000! This can't be true surely? 😫

How much did your wedding cost? Any tips?

Thanks!

I think ours came to £12K but £6K of that was for the honeymoon. We had church wedding, borrowed a DB9, marquee in PIL's back garden, catered reception and then hog roast, free bar, 80 ish guests, bus back to hotel in evening and paid for our hotel room as well as the wedding party's rooms. We also paid for the suite hire/bridesmaids dresses and flowers.
Our PIL paid for the table and chair hire for us (think that was about £1K) and MIL's village cronies did the church and marquee decorations from their gardens as we wanted sweet peas. My aunt lent us the DB9 and paid for my dress.

Roughly £25k for the wedding, but it was a big wedding and we subsided things like guest accommodation. + approx £10k honeymoon which was in Maui

Mine is in less than two months - 20 guests - and coming in at less than £1000.

£125 for the registry office
£50 for my outfit (monsoon wedding dress from eBay, shoes, cardigan)
£150 for DP's suit
£350 for rings
£350 for the meal
Cake and flowers I'm doing myself for about £20.

Married last May £13k for 80 guests, three bridesmaids, four ushers. Was lovely and we were lucky as we were gifted most of the money. We paid for the honeymoon separately.

Included accommodation for the wedding party for two nights so it felt like it was good value. Had the whole place to ourselves and the evening meal the night before was included in the cost by the caterers.

Just rtft and wish I'd had a baileys fountain!

A couple o f hundred pounds in 1985. I think the most money went on the photographer. We looked at the album last week, on our anniversary, I think it was the first time it had been opened in about 20 years.

We got married at the registry office and had a BBQ at my mums house with our family and friends. We're not big on being centre of attention so just wanted to enjoy it with the people closest. It all came to around £900. My dress was £200 and we spent £300 on alcohol and £200 on food.

My sister spent £25,000 and my cousin spent £3000. My cousins was very similar to my sisters so I'm not sure why there was such a price difference!!

£25k, 5 years ago. And that was with getting loads of things done cheap/free (free string quartet, free pianist, free flowers, amongst other things).
We spent 10k on food Shock

ForgiveMeFatherForIHaveGinned · 23/02/2017 20:44

About £6k including honeymoon to Vietnam. Had a late ceremony at 4pm, followed by drinks and canapés then a BBQ in the evening. Relaxed and informal and I loved it!

ThisIsNotMyName99 · 23/02/2017 21:05

I dare not even add it up. Getting married abroad this year, I guess around 40k in total.

It will be bloody brilliant though!

We are not expecting any gifts/money from our guests and have told them so, we don't really need anything and we don't expect to have a honeymoon as well as a fancy wedding. We have about 60 guests in total. They will not have to pay for food or drinks at all once they are there.

IABU. I don't care Grin

There was 32. (Including bride and groom) at our wedding 10 years ago. Civil wedding at a country hotel and golf club.
I know my flowers were £400, dress was £400, civil wedding etc was about £200 (this may be excessive as I could be wrong!), £500 for photographer (got disc too) and I think it was £52 a head for the wedding breakfast and £70 for room hire and then £150 for evening buffet (no evening do except a roommate hire).
My parents paid for some of it so I think with everything in including some overnight stays for some people it was about £10,000.

Lots of people book 2+ years in advance so they can spread the cost (pay for stuff early or pay monthly)

TBH I believe most people take out loans and/or ask bank of mum and dad! We were able to pay for our own wedding but my parents insisted on helping financially.

When we were making the finalisations to our wedding there was a wedding on that had 150 day guests and 300 evening guests.

I figured alone it was about £8,250 at least for the day ceremony etc not including the evening room hire (£300 I think for the largest which they would need plus DJ hire at least and buffet would set them back a few grand), wedding attire, rooms, flowers, photographer (they had a videographer too) and they invited their cousins and their parents neighbours!!!

I suppose if you want a big wedding and have the means to pay for it, go for it, but if not then plan according to your budget.

At the end of the day, you have a marriage and you make it what you want it to be!

Pitchforktotheface · 23/02/2017 21:09

£9000 not including engagement ring or honeymoon. 90 guests, church wedding, canapes, 2 course meal (dessert was wedding cake), and no wedding cars (booked a taxi!)

rogertherabbit · 23/02/2017 21:59

honeyroar of course not - I'm not sure how you read that from my post. Someone could spend £2k (for example) and then wonder afterwards if they could have done a similarly lovely job for £500. That's all I meant. I had some great bargains too and lots of DIY bits and we didn't have a honeymoon. Wasn't important to me - would rather spend the money celebrating on the day with family and friends. People might laugh at me for spending a lot on the dress but I can't believe some folk spend £10k on a week's holiday. Each to their own!

Peaches77 · 23/02/2017 23:54

Around 16k

Saturday wedding in the summer in a hotel with 200 guests.

flowerpower22 · 24/02/2017 00:01

22,000 for 50 guests
