From what I've read, the average cost of a wedding is now £20,000-30,000! This can't be true surely? 😫

How much did your wedding cost? Any tips?

Thanks!

About £10000 18 years ago for church wedding and reception for 120 guests. The bulk of it was for the reception and paying for non local guests accommodation. Includes honeymoon which was in the uk.

Gaaaah · 22/02/2017 06:25

Ours was in the region of around 25k. I think. I've never really added it all up to be honest. We had the full works, absolutely nothing was left unthought of, we wanted to treat our 180 odd guests and that's what we did. Have no regrets about it.

Mouse510 · 22/02/2017 06:51

Under 8k. We had 90 guests on a Saturday in July 2 years ago. Most expensive element was the photographer, and he was worth every penny. Humanist ceremony and the reception was in our beautiful village hall. Used small local caterer and the food was fantastic, she did exactly what we wanted and we paid £15 per head including evening buffet. Bought in our own wine and did sale or return from the cash and carry for the bar.

HarryTheHippo · 22/02/2017 06:57

Wow such huge amounts! You could put a deposit on a house with some of those amounts.

We did ot for about a grand though.and it was ace. No idea what my girls will do as we certainly won't have more than that kind of money to help them:(

fairiedemon · 22/02/2017 07:00

£1200 (including dress, suit, rings etc.) last year in the South East with 14 guets. Perfect!

Phantommagic · 22/02/2017 07:05

6k in 2001. That was for 110 guests and a traditional dinner, lots of drink, evening buffet etc.

FlyingElbows · 22/02/2017 07:05

£150 tops. Went, did the necessary, went home.

PollytheDolly · 22/02/2017 07:12

£5000

Eloped so just us and the dog but still did the whole wedding thing but no guests.

4 days wedding/honeymoon in Devon, dress and DHs kilt (both handmade and came to £2k) cake, photographer, flowers etc etc the full works.

About £10k. Ceremony at a Registry Office in London, followed by the reception at a pub nearby. 60 day guests and about 40-50 evening. We had hog roast, pudding, drinks on arrival, wine with the meal and a prosecco toast. Drinks on arrival for evening guests too spent all my money on booze!

Reception was the biggest cost. Followed by wedding outfits for the bridal party (us, 4 adult bridesmaids, 2 children and the best man - £2,000) then it was DJ & Singer (£850)

I got fab deals on hair, make up and photos as they were people we knew or who were recommended to us.

engineersthumb · 22/02/2017 07:16

About 4k including honeymoon. Church wedding, 120 guests, sit down meal, awesome party and all drinks provided. 2012! Answer don't go to any "wedding" providers!

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 22/02/2017 07:26

From memory, just under £3000
Dress: 150
Venue:100
Food: 700
Flowers:50
Cake:50
Money behind the bar: 1,000 (Well worth it Wink)
Rings:90
Registry office:150
Printing costs:25
Band: £500
DJ and photographer: lovely friends did for free
There were probably other costs I've forgotten about.
The average figures you see are from wedding industry surveys so the people answering tend to be more invested in the process and higher spenders.
Still; even doing things on the cheap it does tend to add up

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/02/2017 07:31

Mine was about £8k last year. That includes rings, venue, food, entertainment and outfits. There's no need to spend tens of thousands on a single day. My dress was on sale, my mum made the cake, no silly bits like chair covers and the sparkly shite for tables, invitations from Vistaprint.

MadamMooMoo · 22/02/2017 07:31

£145 of which £120 was fees.

DrDreReturns · 22/02/2017 07:33

I got married eleven years ago. It cost £6k. We had a church wedding followed by a sit down meal for 50 people, then a buffet for the evening guests.

Thecontentedcat · 22/02/2017 07:33

£45k for 120 guests, it was beautiful, but honestly I'd have been just as happy with a £500 registry office wedding. The actual getting married bit was by far the best (as you would hope, it still took me by surprise though), I don't think I would have cared much what we did after that!

Silvertap · 22/02/2017 07:35

About 22k 6 years ago. My dad paid for all of it

Dh paid for our honeymoon - it was the trip of a lifetime for 10k

themightymoog · 22/02/2017 07:40

About £5k. That was registry office then meal in a private room at a michelin starred restaurant including all pre dinner, dinner and post dinner drinks and the hotel room costs for everyone ( there were only 14 of us though).

12k, 5 years ago. We had 100 guests and a free bar. Awesome day and I don't regret spending what we did.

saladsmoothie · 22/02/2017 07:41

About 50 quid for the piece of paper, and another 30 quid for posh bacon sarnies and tea in the museum cafe after. Bargain.

MewlingQuim · 22/02/2017 07:50

11 guests (immediate family only), less than 2K. This included rings, dress registry office, restaurant and long weekend away for honeymoon. We also went from engagement to planning to wedding in less than a month Grin

It was fab. We avoided all the stress and stupidity of a 'normal' wedding and did it just how we liked.

pinkiponk · 22/02/2017 07:52

12k 4 years ago- 100 guests and that included a free bar for everyone!

PhoebeGetsIt · 22/02/2017 07:58

£800 for a registry office wedding with parents and DD. Meal with parents and grandparents in fancy pub and a night in a hotel. Smile It doesn't have to cost a bomb. I was more interested in a marriage than just one big special day.

HattiesBackpack · 22/02/2017 07:59

£120- All fees, for a registry office wedding.

WaitrosePigeon · 22/02/2017 08:00

All in all about £15k, I didn't think that was too bad. 2 years ago.
