From what I've read, the average cost of a wedding is now £20,000-30,000! This can't be true surely? 😫

How much did your wedding cost? Any tips?

Thanks!

£3,500 for 9 guests and wedding breakfast at home (amazingly decorated). Most expensive thing was our rings (£1500) and 4 night honeymoon in Scotland.

It was perfect for us because I was up the duff and knew we wouldn't bother later. We've promised everyone a big piss up one day but I can't see that happening anytime soon. I don't mind I much prefer the attention on other brides!

£18K 9 years ago. 80 guests. Church wedding. Sit down wedding breakfast and hot buffet in the evening. Band. Video booth. Photographer was a lot! Dress was £900. Id have more entertainment next time Wink. Like those casino tables.

Itsnothingoriginal · 21/02/2017 21:32

3k all in!

About 30 ish guests.

Saved lots by buying a white bridesmaid dress rather than bridal. Also bought bargain bridesmaid dresses for my flower girls from Monsoon outlet.

We got married in a registry office then went to a lovely restaurant and they only charged us per person for their set menu - great as ppl could choose their own meal.

We took all the guests on a boat trip for the evening do which was fun and not expensive!!

Married for free apart from the paperwork in 2012 but then spent £3500 in 2013 for the ceremony. About 40 guests. Dinner in the golf club (this was a total steal, we knew the two chefs overseeing the kitchen/catering were totally underemployed at this place and the food was spectacular, including special vegan canapes and meal for relative. Its why we went there, cheap but brilliant. Both have moved on and work in highly rated restaurants now. Which is a pity as the club have gone back to basic food). Wedding dress was a simple, cheap from previous season but then totally glammed up by seamstress. We knew the minister so he was free (he did a blessing). We did our own flowers, centerpieces, table decorations etc. Two drinks for guests, standard buffet in the evening for a few additional guests. M&S Wedding cake, again plainest and then enhanced afterwards. It was a great and unique event.

£8k in 2014.
60 day guests, 3 course meal with champagne for toasts, band and buffet in the evening with extra 40 guests.
Registry office, so no church costs, bells, choir etc.
We used a local restaurant who charged us for food only, no venue hire. No chair covers, no favours. 1 flower girl, simple table centrepieces, local cake maker, did my own make up.
Hen do was local afternoon tea followed by pub.
We had an amazing photographer for 1200 which was our biggest expense. That and the flowers were the 2 elements we were happy to splurge on.
HoneYmoon was a day trip to Brighton!

Celticlassie · 21/02/2017 21:33

£7700. Don't feel I scrimped on anything I cared about and didn't go for anything we couldn't pay for with a debit card on the day. I absolutely loved it too.

specialsubject · 21/02/2017 21:33

Under £400. Dress, ring, reg office, meal for 12 or so (most of budget). Some time ago!

meladeso · 21/02/2017 21:33

£33k, 6 years ago.
Excl honeymoon.

80 guests in the day, another 15 ish after a casual dinner.
I was horrified at how much we spent, but once we'd picked the venue and committed, we found it hard to cut down at all, even though we spent relatively little on everything other than the venue (and its associated food and drink). But we had exclusive use of a hotel, so we were paying for the whole building, not just the rooms we used for the service, etc.

It was amazing though and I wouldn't undo it!

elpinguino · 21/02/2017 21:34

We haven't dared add it up. Fairly sure it topped 50k though Blush. We had 160 guests all day and although we did a lot of it very diy and as cheap as we could, feeding/entertaining that many guests adds up quick. If you'd told me before I'd have come close to spending that much on one day I'd have been horrified. As it is, we were fortunate that we could do it, and I'm so bloody thrilled to be married to the right man and feel lucky that we could share that with everyone we wanted there, so it was worth it.

That is more than the average imo.

My DSis is getting married in the summer. Hers will be about 12k with 50 day guests and 65 evening guests. They aren't scrimping either.

Mine was 8k 8 years ago.

meladeso · 21/02/2017 21:34

oh, and as we had a single venue we had no cars, etc. And we also didn't have a band in the evening, just put our own music on.

we did have a singer in the afternoon for a little while.

RustyPaperclip · 21/02/2017 21:34

A couple of years ago, approximately 11,000. It seems exorbitant but we cut back on a lot which shows how overpriced weddings can be. No money for a divorce now though Wink

ShouldIBuyOrShouldIGo · 21/02/2017 21:35

£50
Is there a smug icon?
Just me, DH, DS and 2 witnesses.
No fuss, no mess, no hassle. I thoroughly recommend it!

Palomb · 21/02/2017 21:36

400 wedding venue
800 dress and suit hire
200 evening venue
500 decor
500 food (curries and ice cream)
100 flowers
200 wine ( virgin wine boxes - bar provided free by local pub)

We did it on the cheap but it was great!

BabytoBoris · 21/02/2017 21:37

£9k 3 years a go. 90 people for a sit down meal. It felt like we did it on the cheap, we had to do a lot ourselves, hired a village hall for a venue.

Weddings are bloody expensive.

DeadMorose · 21/02/2017 21:37

£1000 in June 2016. Registry office + barbecue in the garden. Dress - eBay(BHS one that I wanted, in my size - lucky find), suit - Burton, cake and flowers made by me, food from Iceland, had to rent about 20 garden chairs.

DeadMorose · 21/02/2017 21:38

Rings from Amazon, forgot to add.

Lazyafternoon · 21/02/2017 21:39

About £8000 all in. 4 years ago in South East England.

That includes suits, flowergirl dresses, hair & makeup, flowers, band, food for 90 guests (sit down buffet), Cheese cake (instead of cake cake), favours, wine with meal plus £1000 behind the bar, our accommodation for night before and after wedding, official fees, plus a few other little bits and bobs. I can't remember if it included honeymoon or not (3 night city break in Europe).

We didn't have cars as was in indoor wedding in winter with wedding & reception in same venue so no one would see anyway. Venue didn't have a hire charge - just food & drink was all done through them. Relative is a photographer and did photos as our wedding gift. Mum bought my dress for me (but was only £250). Bridesmaid bought her own dress as she choose own dress she'd be able to wear again.

There's loads of stuff you can spend money on for a wedding. I don't think we scrimped, but prioritised what we needed and then 'wanted'. We wanted a good party but not to waste money for sake of it. We couldn't justify the cost of an extravagant honeymoon - it'd have been lovely, but we wanted to get married spending same again on a two week holiday 'because it's what you do' seemed daft.

RustyPaperclip · 21/02/2017 21:40

ShouldIBuy smug icon certainly deserved Grin

Frillyhorseyknickers · 21/02/2017 21:40

£46k. Big English wedding at home, lasted the full weekend, about 300guests - opened bar and caterers both days. Totally worth it - best day of my life.

DirtyDancing · 21/02/2017 21:42

EC22 · 21/02/2017 21:45

Approx 12k including honeymoon 10 years ago. I didn't scrimp on anything though, although I didn't have a videographer as i didn't want one but spent extra on photos.

EC22 · 21/02/2017 21:46

That was for 80
