It's fascinating that more people are marching in protest in Washington than turned up to see President Trump inaugurated.

Roussette · 21/01/2017 17:14

Hoolie yes I feel sorry for the man in the street type US citizen who is just appalled with all of this.

One of the targeted cuts is the Violence Against Women Act grant program which provides funding to domestic violence and sexual assault agencies

But he's going to spend a lot of money on the military. Just so America is taken seriously. Because the world needs more weapons. Hmm

SanFranBear · 21/01/2017 17:19

There's even a protest taking place in Antarctica today. I have never heard of anything like it - old DT has got a lot of uniting to do Sad

Lweji · 21/01/2017 17:21

Or has Drumpf got hold of a copy of Ronald Reagan's greatest hits?

Yes. I looked at Reagan's policies Wikipedia page and it was a very interesting read.

Lower taxes
Defense spending
Trickle down economics
No increase in the minimum wage for the whole of the 8 years.
Removed the WH solar panels that Carter had installed.
He had a problem with Iran.

He was for free trade, though.

Reagan made the US from a creditor nation to a major (the biggest?) debtor.

The crystal ball says... economic crisis.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 21/01/2017 17:22

Trump is a dinosaur, if he gets what he wants he will hold America back and the rest of the developed world will just leapfrog over her

BigBadgers · 21/01/2017 17:22

Sounds like DT has managed to unite a lot of people sanfran. Just maybe not quite how he meant to :o

originalmavis · 21/01/2017 17:23

But he really doesn't care. Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I think I'll go and eat worms. Or he doesn't believe it. Its allocated lies and everyone really does love him.

Are his family that stupid? If that was my dad I'd have taken him aside years ago 'dad, you know how you believe that you are beloved by all, the saviour of the western world?...'

Destinysdaughter · 21/01/2017 17:24

Been watching a live stream of the speakers at the women's march in Washington, so inspired and moved by their passion, eloquence and calls for action. Trump sure will have a fight on his hands!

Lweji · 21/01/2017 17:25

He may even top Obama as a people mobiliser. All united with a common goal.

Possibly even uniting Democrats and Republicans.

BigBadgers · 21/01/2017 17:26

I think he is a classic abusive patriarch original and his family don't get a say in anything or are indoctrinated to believe he is this godlike figure.

squishysquirmy · 21/01/2017 17:27

From his speech yesterday, my crystal ball tells me there are cuts coming to the "flush with cash" education system.

SenecaFalls · 21/01/2017 17:31

I would really like to be in Washington, but have difficulty being in crowds. But I did agree to sub for a colleague at work yesterday so that she could leave early to go so I did my small part. She and her mom and young niece are there. It's very much a multi-generational protest.

Roussette · 21/01/2017 17:33

My DD has sent me some pics of her at the London march. It's said there were 100,000 there.

wowfudge · 21/01/2017 17:35

I hope Michael Moore is mobilising rather than immobilising those who are anti-Trump!

There is nothing likeable about DT. Spending money on defence, making a country great again - where have we heard that before?

BigBadgers · 21/01/2017 17:38

I think we would be misguided to take anything he says as indication of what will actually happen. I foresee an increasing gap between what is said and what is in fact happening.

He will cut education funding and claim in speeches that he is improving schools. He will talk hard about stopping importing from foriegn countries, there will be a few big shout outs about factories not moving but in reality imports will carry on as before, at least for his friends who own stocks in multinational companies. He will say he is reducing immigration, but he is not really going to get rid of cheap immigrant labour for his rich pal's businesses. He will talk about his beautiful health care and how removing ACA is reducing insurance while in fact insurance rises and healthcare provision reduces for the poor.

When even his supporters finally realise this bright new future he is promising isn't materialising he will start getting serious with the blame game. There will be reds under the bed, there will be conspiracies in the white house. If at that point he has control over the intelligence agencies Americans, in fact all of us, should be very, very afraid. There are few things more dangerous then a maglomaniac who sees power slipping from his grasp. I have no doubt that if it is allowed to get to this stage he will stop at nothing to keep power.

BigBadgers · 21/01/2017 17:40

Sorry, that was a bit of a depressing rant, but I needed to get it out I guess. It feels like this is a limited point in time when something truely awful can be averted.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 21/01/2017 17:41

He is 'honered' to be president. FAKE SPELLCHECKER

PickAChew · 21/01/2017 17:42

Twitter should be urged to change its name in honour of the beautiful President.

To Tooter.

TSSDNCOP · 21/01/2017 17:43

Im trying to see if I can write what Im thinking without sounding like Claig, and without sounding like I think DT is a good thing. The biggest point I keep coming back to when I watch the protestors is that despite everything, DT was democratically elected in a system that had tonnes and tonnes of chances to stop that happening.

All those people (and us on this thread) may think he's anything from dangerously ridiculous to screamingly outright dangerous, but he was elected by millions and millions of people that clearly felt that the people who had been and were in charge were equally dangerous an ridiculous to them.

I feel in a way I can't really explain angry with the US politicians of recent history - for their blithe expectation no-one would notice how they kept it in the family (Bushes/Clintons - the Obamas lining up Michelle) and couldn't see anything except the view of the people round the edges.

If I was marching I wouldn't just be marching against Trump, I'd have to say I was marching against them too for letting us down so badly too.

Anyway...back to the great, greatness that will be great for us all. And to Alec Baldwin, who will have a hard spot on SNL for the next 4 years.

HappyFlappy · 21/01/2017 17:43

unicornsIlovethem · 21/01/2017 17:45

Just to let you all know that you're wonderful elegant really elegant people. Just ignore anyone who says you're deplorable.

Bobbybobbins · 21/01/2017 17:50

This is great, just great. I'll be putting mumsnet first, mumsnet only.

HappyFlappy · 21/01/2017 17:51

Apparently Trump will be reinforcing the Navy to fight ISIS. You know how strong their navy is.

Second only to the Swiss Navy, as I understand it, Lweji
