Gulp. Am I pregnant? And Too Old?

I know, I know, you don't know if I am, but I"m in a right panic and just want to get some views on one particular point...I've just turned 45, and this will be my fourth baby.

We had sex when I thought I'd finished ovulating, that was just over a week ago. I woke this morning with a really strange, sour taste in my mouth that has lingered all day, along with a slight feeling of sickness (I didn't get MS as a rule with other babies). Eating makes the sicky feeling a bit better,

We both would be shocked but happy about another baby, but I get the feeling I'd be judged as I'm 45 (husband even older!)

Any great, uplifting stories of being pregnant at 45 or older? What about that sour taste in mouth...anyone had that as an early symptom?

I"m testing tomorrow, but might be too early, but I can't think about anything else at the moment.

I"ve name changed for this as I know a few folk on here in real life!

Not sure, but I got a weird taste in my mouth a couple of days before I got hit with tonsillitis?? I felt sick aswell but no sore throat until days later. Just a thought :) x

My son (first baby) was born 2 days after my 43rd birthday. I probably won't have another but would not care what people thought if by some miracle it did happen. Whose judgment are you afraid of? Strangers in the street or at the school gates won't have a clue how old you are, people's appearance varies so much between 30 and 50. Family can just suck it up, and friends who judge are not friends. Good luck, hope you get the result you want.

Judged? really? Tbh, I don't care how old you are. And neither should anyone else. I hope you get the result you want. Patricia Hodge is a lovely, lovely person and a brilliant actress. She had children at a 'later' age - which is a totally irrelevant fact.

My daughters best friend has just turned 5 and mum is about to turn 52. I would never have known until she told me she was that old. So yes it can work out fine. POAS!

No you are not too old! My mum had me at 35 and my sister at 45, no issue!

If you'd be happy, then who is anyone to judge??

Sorry to be the voice of doom but if you finished ovulating just over a week ago, wouldn't it be too early for symptoms?

There are threads for women ttc over 40 and for women pregnant over 40 where you'll find you're not strange at all. I'm 41 and pregnant and to hell with anyone saying I'm too old!

My close friend had a baby at 47 (her others are 21 and 19!!).

She says she has enjoyed having more time with this baby as they are financially secure now and she has given up her career.

I had DC5 when I was 43 so a bit younger than you.
It was fine. Great pregnancy, easy birth.

hesterton has already mentioned that it could be a perimenopausal symptom though so bear that in mind.

I get a lot of pregnancy type symptoms now I am nearly 50. Nausea, cramps, tiredness and all kinds of weirdness.

My period has been a bit unreliable of late - I used to have a super short cycle, but the last two have been longer, so difficult to read that one Crunchy. I did think think my cycle changing might be peri-menopausal to be honest.

I will look at the pregnancy boards and will refrain from updating with every symptom possibly, but wanted a wider cross section and a bit of traffic for my immediate panic .

Incredibly, my overriding worry at the moment is telling my mum (she worries). How pathetic is that?

Do you have any tests in the house, or can you pop out to get one?

I had ds3 at 42. The other two were 11 & 9. there is a girl in my son's class whose mother was 45 when she was born. Two of my colleagues had babies at 42 and 45 and my friends cousin had her 3rd at 50 so it's certainly not rare to be an older mother.
