Gulp. Am I pregnant? And Too Old?

I know, I know, you don't know if I am, but I"m in a right panic and just want to get some views on one particular point...I've just turned 45, and this will be my fourth baby.

We had sex when I thought I'd finished ovulating, that was just over a week ago. I woke this morning with a really strange, sour taste in my mouth that has lingered all day, along with a slight feeling of sickness (I didn't get MS as a rule with other babies). Eating makes the sicky feeling a bit better,

We both would be shocked but happy about another baby, but I get the feeling I'd be judged as I'm 45 (husband even older!)

Any great, uplifting stories of being pregnant at 45 or older? What about that sour taste in mouth...anyone had that as an early symptom?

I"m testing tomorrow, but might be too early, but I can't think about anything else at the moment.

I"ve name changed for this as I know a few folk on here in real life!

Your not too old.
I think you may be too early for a positive test though.
You may well be menopausal. Although a lot of later in life babies started out with the Mum thinking it was menopause.

Miserylovescompany2 · 14/01/2017 20:42

I hope it's the result you are hoping for? Nice age gap as well, you now youngest will be in full time school, so plenty time for new baby.

I knew within the first week, as my boobs grew overnight...looked like I'd had a boob job!! They've gone south again now :( but a gorgeous little girl that I wouldn't swap for all the tea in China.

I was 40, eldest 20, then 13 and 9. They love her to bits...

I'd love another, don't think my body could cope though. Preeclampsia kind of sucks the joy out of pregnancy.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 14/01/2017 20:47

Can I borrow your cat Pebbles? Grin

Got to go bed shortly as have a v v early start in the morning to drive length of country (but will still POAS!!, even though poss too early)

So if I don't reply again tonight, thanks so, so much everyone. I really feel so much better for reading your lovely comments. I'll check in again when I can tomorrow. It's not like I'll be thinking about anything else Grin

I can handle not being pregnant, definitely, it was completely out of the blue...but I could get used to being pregnant again as well...

Thanks all.

My friend was 48 when her youngest was born. She had older children of 18 and 15. They were less than impressed when she told them, but everyone else was really happy, shocked, but happy. She did have health issues during that pregnancy though, but they weren't pregnancy related iyswim. It did make her pregnancy more stressful though.

pregnantat50 · 14/01/2017 20:50

good luck Op xx

PenguinsandPebbles · 14/01/2017 21:02

I've not tried him out on other people Grin maybe he could Skype you Wink but he is very reliable with me. I'm currently on 2dpo so waiting for him to give me the "paws up"

Wish you lots of luck OP

SuperFlyHigh · 14/01/2017 21:05

Good luck op it happens.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 14/01/2017 21:05

I have some friends around your age, I wouldn't think anything of them being pregnant now. Metallic taste in my mouth was first symptom with DD. Tasted like I'd been sucking on a 2p coin all day.

Good luck. And please keep us updated! First response is probably the best one. I used this on a late afternoon wee the day before I was due on and it was quite clear.

LanaorAna1 · 14/01/2017 21:08

I know someone who was complaining madly about menopause and weight gain - no one, including her GP, paid any attention until she went into labour aged 50.

DD weighed in at 8lb and has just left for medical school. Just brilliant for everyone, esp as the mum didn't have to put up with any stress from docs.

skankingpiglet · 14/01/2017 21:09

Penguins mine has the same behaviour. She'll normally only sit next to me or on my feet, but when pregnant she just won't get off me or leave me alone. If I so much as sat down to put my shoes on she'd be forcing her way onto my lap. I'd love to know what she was able to sniff out so early on! I'm glad it's not just my cat, people usually give me a 'you crazy' stare when I mention it Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 14/01/2017 21:22

Imo a week is far too early to be getting symptoms. Chances are it is a bug. If its not, i was 43 when i had my last. I didnt feel judged. I had no problems :)

gillybeanz · 14/01/2017 21:26

Although I was younger (37) I found out I was pg on the menopause.
I was very young and we saw dd as some sort of miracle.
We have grown up ds x2.
We found it easier to parent than first time round as we are better off, further down the line and far less to worry about.
I did feel like a grandma every now and then but that was because it was so easy, not age related.
Also had the metallic taste, didn't with the others, so wasn't sure if menopause or pregnancy related.
Good luck and I hope you get the result you want Thanks

blueskyinmarch · 14/01/2017 21:30

Good luck to you. 45 is not too old to have a baby. An aunt of my DH didn’t even start having children until she was 42 and she had three.

zeeboo · 14/01/2017 21:32

I wouldn't waste your money. If it's only 7 days since you had sex then no test will show as positive. Wait until your period hasn't arrived or at least two weeks post sex.

Catlady1976 · 14/01/2017 21:33

Hope you get the result you want. My sister had her 2ND at 44 and it was her best pregnancy and birth experience. I had my 3rd quite late too.

UnderbeneathsiesTheMistletoe · 14/01/2017 21:35

Take 400mg folic acid every day anyway, just to be on the safe side, and good luck!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/01/2017 21:39

My mum had my brother much later in life! There are 14 years between us... we all love him to death!

Good luck!

Lovelybangers · 14/01/2017 21:46

You're not too old OP

Wait and see what your POAS result is.

Fingers crossed!

extrabiotin · 14/01/2017 21:48

What the feck is POAS?

Obvious to many I am sure, but from a person who never got prg despite trying for ten years. long story so stay away from prg stuff generally, but just clicked on this one.

Anyway, forgive my ignorance I am sure it is so obvious.

Kmxxx14 · 14/01/2017 21:49

Good luck.

Try to get a first response early response test. I've always got a positive 10 days past ovulation with those tests (4 days before period).

And not too old at all.

squoosh · 14/01/2017 21:50

DaisyQueen · 14/01/2017 21:50

My dm had my sister when she was 42. There is 13 year between us and it was a suprise to everyone but no one passed judgement on her age, you are as young as you feel

extrabiotin · 14/01/2017 21:52

@ squoosh.

So obvious when you see it. Thanks!

The80sweregreat · 14/01/2017 21:52

Good luck! Let us know what happens

CoolCarrie · 14/01/2017 21:53

POAS means pee on a stick, do a pregnancy test
