Surely it's about educating kids to be more accepting and understanding. The article sounds a little one sided to me. Who wrote it?

Well, it looks like some silly business someone has dreamed up to try and jump on the snake oil bandwagon .

The "silly business" has government funding though.

This whole gender identification thing seems to be pretty strong in the U.K. Over here something like this wouldn't fly.

I will be honest and will say that I don't understand the whole thing fully. As far as my simple mind understands, there are 2 genders. People are one or the other, or there are people who are born into the wrong body and swap from one to the other.

It's very one-sided, I would be looking for a much more balanced article before getting pearl clutchy about it. This anti trans trend is getting old quickly.

I'd be more horrified about kids using tumblr and so on. The school stuff is just symptomatic of the fact that society is swallowing this trans myth whole.

There are 2 sexes - male and female, and there there is a very rare condition called intersex, where people can have physical traits of male and female biology. Gender is made up by society to say that boys = football, boisterousness, action heroes,trousers and sludgy colours and girls = ballet, niceness, make up, dresses and pastels. As we know this is rubbish - girls can do or like all the things people say are 'boys stuff' and vice versa. You cannot change your sex, but you can be and like whatever you want.

This is what I have told my daughters.

FFS, this is getting ridiculous now.

We don't offer people with anorexia liposuction, we don't accept trans racialism as yo can't change race, we don't chop peoples legs off if they believe themselves to be disabled, we don't accept trans speciesism.

But tell kids they can change sex yeah fair game.

Radical iidea but how about we takje thius gender bullshit our of schools and just let kids be kids. Let therm explore their identities withour sticking our adult bullshit onto them.

Educational institutions need to be pushing back with (at a minimum) the idea that words have defined meanings.

I think opinions and teachings like the above can be very damaging to impressionable, confused teenagers. I speak from first hand experience with my 17 year old brother who put of the blue announced last year he was transgender.

It became apparent that a "friend" on the internet had been encouraging this opinion and pushing him into it. He then researched the best things to say to the doctors to begin treatment. I told him if these feelings were genuine he wouldn't need to research the best answers!

Our mum had been ill with cancer on and off for 2 years and spent a lot of time in hospital. He was confused, impressionable and quite possibly confused about his sexuality not gender.

1 year later luckily his treatment never began and he's happily living as a male.

Trans awareness is now on the curriculum at medical schools as well. Essentially the message is that you have to treat the person as whatever they identify as being, and you have no right to ever mention that a person is trans in a medical letter to another specialist even if medically relevant as it is transphobic.

YANBU at all. hazeyjane has it right - gender is a social construct, and reifying gender roles like this isn't good for either boys or girls. The pink and blue brain stuff is unscientific nonsense.

I don't work in schools any longer, but if I did I'd be horrified if I was expected to teach this sort of thing.

I think I'll wait til I can hear about it from someone other than the Daily Mail and their fri nds before I get too ariated about it........

It has gone the other way now with the younger generation. It is quite trendy to be transgender and write a Blog about your journey, join groups and so
on.
It's great that these issues are accepted, but I'm uncomfortable with them being promoted or 'fashionable'.

Male and female are biological sexes. Gender is a set of misogynist stereotypes imposed by society that constantly fluctuate according to fashion.

Criticise the link for being partial Bertrand, by all means (it is, it's a group concerned about the trans trend). But to characterise it as DMish in anyway is misleading.

Im always confused that there are many reported cases of people being so distressed by their body having the "incorrect" sexual attributes of breasts or a penis that they have cut them off, and yet they seem to think that could be avoided if someone had told them that girls are allowed to like football
