Last night I passed out drunk in my garden and threw up in my daughters potty.

I'm really scared I might be developing a problem. I'm getting so drunk at least 2-3 times a week and on the days in between I'm still drinking, just not to excess.

The problem is I don't want to stop drinking completely, just to be able to regulate my intake.

I called AA and might try to go to a meeting next week but I know they encourage zero alcohol and honestly I can't imagine life without it. Can people just learn to cut down without giving it up completely?

Good luck OP.

I recommend a website called "Tired of thinking about drinking"
The author is a recovering alcoholic of 5 plus years, who gives free support plus some paid stuff too.

I gave up drinking 383 days ago.
I also don't have the off switch, and I recognise that instead I have the "fuck it" switch too.
I also have been the last person drinking when most even heavy drinking friends had gone to bed.
I've embarrassed myself so many times. Had blackouts. Vomited. Had to stay in bed all day after a binge.

Now I never have to worry about those things again. It's truly liberating.
And I never think about booze anymore, that's the best thing. We are almost alcohol free in our house (DH has a beer sometimes) but to my kids it's normal not to drink. I hope that stops them going where I did.

I wish you all the best!

Speaking as someone whos mum is a severe alcoholic you will end up ruining your daughters life if you carry on. You can't be a good parent and a drinker doesn't work

Well done op. Can you identify what caused last nights blip? It might help for next time and some of the others can maybe advice on other strategies.

How is your DP doing with you not drinking? Has he stopped too?

Limurz · 18/08/2016 17:19

There is a great group called Club Soda on FB. Lots of support and advice available. Good luck you can do it!

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 18/08/2016 17:46

nicotine, RTFT. That was unhelpful.

NameChange30 · 18/08/2016 17:48

Very helpful. Read the OP's posts, at least!

NameChange30 · 18/08/2016 17:48

Very unhelpful, I meant to say! #facepalm

CremeEggThief · 18/08/2016 17:52

Just a blip, OP. Back on the wagon today.

Nanunanu · 18/08/2016 18:38

Op well done. Today is another day.

At some point it may be worth looking back to yesterday to work out why you had your blip. So you can protect yourself from future blips.

But for today know you can pick yourself up and crack on with another alcohol free evening. Well done
