Those krafty bastards! The taste has changed!!! You knew it MN. My partner is so not interested in this shocking development that I had to come and talk about it here. I knew my childhood memories had not been created.

So AIBU or have they really ruined it?

And don't get me started on the apple crunch....

They've ruined Crunchies? Shock I hardly eat chocolate because of migraines but I did like the occasional Crunchie.
How can a company run by sane people take so many valuable brands and just wreck them? It's like buying a load of paintings and scribbling over them in permanent marker, or buying supercars and crashing them.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/03/2016 17:22

Fraid so countess - I am hoping that at the very least Kraft will bring out some kind of "vintage" range using the old recipe to keep old gimmers like me happy - I don't care if it's more expensive as long as it doesn't taste of fish Sad

MustBeThin · 20/03/2016 17:39

I think the people that know the old Cadburys recipe should just start using it and name it something else Grin then everyone could eat good chocolate again. Shouldn't be classed as copying when they are now two different recipes, one tastes like shit and the other doesn't. Grin I can dream

TheSilveryPussycat · 20/03/2016 20:33

YY to Crunchies being yuck now. One of the few choc bars I used to like, just now and again.

Had one a while back. For some strange reason, though, even though I hated the taste, I found my self finishing it... maybe just an old pattern of scoffing eating, or perhaps a wild unfounded hope that the next bite might taste better. Sad

(I am an old gimmer, old enough that my favourite chocolate bar used to be Fry's 5 boys (which had 5 boys on the wrapper with 5 different expressions))

thebestfurchinchilla · 20/03/2016 21:34

It is such a shame that such a traditionally English family business with a fantastic history and community was allowed to be bought out by Kraft! I wish there was some kind of protection for these firms when they hit hard times to make sure they stay true to their roots and remain in GBs hands.

green18 · 20/03/2016 21:36

I read a while back that they are filling their chocolate with sweets and crackers/biscuit as in Marvellous Creations and ritz because the fillers are cheaper than cocoa. Maybe now they've changed the choc recipe too!

Crazypetlady · 20/03/2016 21:53

No idea what easter egg I'm going to buy this year I hate Thornton and don't want to be disappointed with cadburys even though they used to be the best easter egg.

green18 · 20/03/2016 21:55

I've bought Aldi's Easter bunnies this year. Their chocolate is usually good.

katemiddletonsothermum · 20/03/2016 22:07

It was a semi hostile takeover furchinchilla - very sad for everyone all round.

I had a summer job at Terry's chocolate factory when I was a student. It was brilliant fun, especially being able to buy the seconds for a fraction of the price. Remember Terry's Neopolitans anyone? Then last week I bought a chocolate orange AND IT WAS RANK. SO RANK I THREW IT AWAY. HOW CAN ANYONE THROW AWAY A CHOCOLATE ORANGE???

Oh guess what. Kraft took over Terrys didn't it? FML.

GlacindaTheTroll · 21/03/2016 08:35

The programme is on the listings for tonight, 8pm.

Thatrabbittrickedme interesting link - especially that the response isn't to consider changing the product back to one which consumers like and buy, but to have an Easter pop-up cafe selling novelties such as creme egg toasties.

(My keyboard just tried to change that to 'crime egg' - it's becoming way too sentient!)

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 21/03/2016 10:27

That is apposite Glacinda - they are now crimes against chocolate Grin

katemiddletonsothermum · 21/03/2016 11:54

Hi - this morning I did some investigative research and looked at the ingredients list of chocolate / Easter Eggs.

Cadbury, Galaxy and Lindt chocolates all have palm oil.

The Tesco own brand square Easter Egg actually had added WHEAT. wtf?

Go for more expensive Divine / Green & Blacks (which, ironically, is owned by Cadbury aka Kraft, the fuckers) and you'll be guaranteed chocolate which is actually chocolate. The Tesco own brand 75% chocolate was also proper chocolate but the milk chocolate wasn't.

StillDrSethHazlittMD · 21/03/2016 12:14

For those of us who were total Dairy Milk nuts, which product out there tastes most like it? Everyone says they like this brand, or that brand, or this supermarket's, but that doesn't help describe the actual taste. Does anyone do a milk chocolate that tastes really like Dairy Milk used to? I can't abide plain chocolate and even some other milk chocolates don't compare to old Dairy Milk.

eatyouwithaspoon · 21/03/2016 12:26

I have never liked creme eggs as too sickly but loved buttons and dairy milk which taste strange now. I had some Milk Tray for mothers day which I have bever particularly liked but that apple one was the most disgusting chocolate I have ever tasted, what were they thinking? Envy (sick not envy!) Will stick to Frys Turkish Delight from now on.

CaptainHammer · 21/03/2016 13:44

Crazypetlady The malteser egg is quite nice. Also Lindt.

thriftymrs · 21/03/2016 13:53

I used to love, love, LOVE Creme Bears. Gorgeous chocolate filled with soft fondant. Does anyone remember those?

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 21/03/2016 14:40

Seth I heard a rumour (possibly on another MN thread) that one of the Kraft factories - in India? - was still using the old recipe for now. Can't find anything on Google sadly.

ClarenceTheLion · 21/03/2016 15:00

Good, I'll watch this. A friend said something to me the other day about how 'you can't beat Cadbury's' for easter eggs. She was stunned when I told her it now tastes like chocolate flavoured oil (with an aftertaste of bile). But I am guilty of buying Cadbury's eggs for DS. They're cheap! And he's such a gannet that chocolate doesn't touch the sides anyway.

NeedACleverNN · 21/03/2016 20:01

Who's watching?? Grin

scarednoob · 21/03/2016 20:07

I will be watching on catch up as trying to feed a blingy whingy baby!

scarednoob · 21/03/2016 20:07

Clingy not blingy. My daughter does not have glittery tattoos and juicy couture track suit bottoms!

Lynnm63 · 21/03/2016 20:08

I am.

Libitina · 21/03/2016 20:08

Watching.

I want Chocolate now, not Cadbury though.

HelenaDove · 21/03/2016 20:10

Has anybody tried Sainsburys own chocolate? Whats this like?

Southernlassie · 21/03/2016 20:12

I'm in. Produced in Poland but told select committee they would be produced here?!
