Those krafty bastards! The taste has changed!!! You knew it MN. My partner is so not interested in this shocking development that I had to come and talk about it here. I knew my childhood memories had not been created.

So AIBU or have they really ruined it?

And don't get me started on the apple crunch....

Oh what a shame that Milka is so low on the list - I love it.

HelenaDove · 21/03/2016 22:34

Cheers noob Thanks

How do they reconcile using the Fair Trade logo while using zero hours contracts.

BoSelectaBigBiff · 22/03/2016 08:18

We've just discovered we have a mouse in the house Angry

We know this because this morning, DS1's Easter eggs had been nibbled.

The mouse had eaten a shed load of the Mars egg. But only a teeny tiny bit of the Cadbury egg.

Kraft, you have made Cadbury's so shit that even mice don't want to eat it.

IsmellSwell · 22/03/2016 08:26

No wonder it all tastes like cheap over-sweet rubbish. It's not even made in this country.
It's made in Poland! Shock

RhodaBull · 22/03/2016 09:37

I watched the programme and I too was disappointed that they didn't focus very much on the change in taste, nor the size issue (eg Fingers).

I was thinking that perhaps Kraft/Montiwotsit think that "young" people - ie the new generation of consumers - won't really remember old Cadbury's, so won't care about a change in the perceived quality of the product. The testers they used in Dispatches were generally quite young, and one sounded American who is presumably used to foul-tasting chocolate!

Disheartening was not so much Kraft's business behaviour - after all, they are just a company with shareholders and are seeking to maximise profits at all costs - but how toothless we as a country are to do anything about dodgy practices. Kraft's reneging on their initial agreement attracted nothing but a mild slap on the wrist, even with a Parliamentary enquiry, and as for the tax avoidance, it seems that nothing can be done.

EleanorofProvence · 22/03/2016 09:58

What about Wispas do they taste horrible too? I haven't tried Crunchies for ages so disappointed they're on the vile list (along with Caramels). My DS doesn't seem to like Buttons much (Aldi ones are a good alternative). I've not tried any of their new recipes - they automatically go on the vile list. Twirls are alright still - I might even try to source some Irish Cadbury's as a treat.

arahia · 22/03/2016 10:23

IsmellSwell
Yes, I'm sure if it was made in Bournville using the same recipee it wouldn't taste like cheap over-sweet rubbish. Hmm

Cannotthinkofawittyusername · 22/03/2016 10:26

My Mum bought a bar last week and was so disgusted at the taste it is still in the fridge. She was most annoyed

scarednoob · 22/03/2016 10:32

You can buy Australian or New Zealand dairy milk in tesco and the difference in taste is quite shocking. I don't do it often because I don't usually shop at tesco (and it's a fiver a bar, which DP and I will hoover up in a shameful time), but the difference is really noticeable.

katemiddletonsothermum · 22/03/2016 10:45

IsmellSwell - are you insinuating that anything made in Poland must be crap? That's rather [insert word here] of you. Also, when was the last time you ever needed a plumber or a joiner? My daughter's boyfriend is Polish. Honestly, these people, coming over here, doing a good job, treating our children like Princesses, looking after her and generally adoring her - can't have that at all.

KillBillHill · 22/03/2016 10:53

I took my children to cadburys world last summer and noticed the take over from Kraft was mentioned swiftly in the history. They still claim that the chocolate is made the same way as always.
The history surrounding cadburys is something we should be proud of. Instead, the Krafty arseholes have come along and ruined everything Mr Cadbury and his sons stood for.

KillBillHill · 22/03/2016 10:54

Eleanor yes the wispas taste terrible too now. That was my favourite chocolate bar as a 4 year old back in the 80's. Now it tastes fake.

Sallyingforth · 22/03/2016 10:57

I agree with you kate. That post was wrong and offensive. I also have the highest regard for Polish workers who have done some excellent work for me.

The actual problem with Poland (according to the programme) is that some of the Cadbury production was moved there because they only have to pay the workers £2.30 per hour.

HopIt · 22/03/2016 11:00

Our government are crap at standing up to big business.
Look at BMW with mini and rover, the way that was dealt with was disgusting as well.
The mini was mostly Rover when it came out.
Same with Land Rover, they took the technology and once they had rinsed it dry sold it on.

If Land Rover and mini were still British owned imagine how well our economy would be doing.

BMW were literally weeks out of having to pay millions back when they shut down rover

MoonriseKingdom · 22/03/2016 11:11

The taste is bad because of the recipe change not the factory location. However, I do think it is sad that a British institution which was a success story is no longer manufactured here with the consequent loss of jobs. Not to mention extra air miles of transporting the bars. The programme last night said that there was nothing in the deal for Cadburys who were doing well and everything to gain for Kraft. It really is a scandal.

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/03/2016 11:18

It's so sad to see what Kraft have done to such an iconic British brand.

Shove your Oreos up your hole Kraft!

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/03/2016 11:18

how toothless we as a country are to do anything about dodgy practices. Kraft's reneging on their initial agreement attracted nothing but a mild slap on the wrist, even with a Parliamentary enquiry, and as for the tax avoidance, it seems that nothing can be done.

I absolutely agree with this.

I think Twirls may still be made in the Dublin factory and that's why they taste nice.

Sallyingforth · 22/03/2016 11:49

If you look at the packaging for the different products they are made in various countries, and the ingredients are different too. So it's quite likely that they have a different taste.
I avoid the whole sorry Cadbury saga by buying Aldi's Moser Roth chocolate which has no oils at all and tastes delicious. Aldi also claim to be Fair Trade. I don't know if that is a more genuine claim than Mondishit's but it can hardly be worse.

runningbug123 · 22/03/2016 13:44

I live really close to one the Cadbury's chocolate factories and one day a week the staff shop opened to the public to buy chocs. There misshapes were the best not like the ones you can get now!

Can I ask when did they drop the 's??

The factory still says Cadbury's so I am not going to change it.

We are in boycott in this house after the factory closed after the workers were promised to keep there jobs. I've had it a handful of times raffle prizes ect and thought the fruit and nut was vile.

I thought it was strange when it said last night the quantity of everything had been reduced. So basically they have changed the recipe so it's cheaper and reduced the sizes so it's cheaper for them again.

I feel they should not be able to trade under the name anymore as everything's changed so it's not the same product anymore.

Also how can they not be paying taxes as come on Cadbury's is what one of the biggest brands in the uk. Shocking, still won't be buying there chocolate in future they can ram it where the sun don't shine.

LaurieMarlow · 22/03/2016 13:57

A) It wasn't that great to begin with
B) Lots of great chocolate options out there. Vote with your feet and buy something else

LaurieMarlow · 22/03/2016 14:00

I feel they should not be able to trade under the name anymore as everything's changed so it's not the same product anymore

Commercial brands make changes to their product formulations all the time - this is an utterly unworkable suggestion.

Sometimes for the better, sometimes for worse.

Sallyingforth · 22/03/2016 17:21

It was the name that Kraft wanted, not the product.
The name and its heritage were everything. Once they had that they could use it as they wished and attach it to any old crap they wanted to sell.
And they have.

LaurieMarlow · 22/03/2016 17:29

Exactly. Cadburys was always an example of a great brand, but not wonderful product.

By worsening the product, mondelez will eventually erode the brand. But there's a lot of money to be made on the way down.
