Those krafty bastards! The taste has changed!!! You knew it MN. My partner is so not interested in this shocking development that I had to come and talk about it here. I knew my childhood memories had not been created.

So AIBU or have they really ruined it?

And don't get me started on the apple crunch....

I used to love Cadburys but agree it's different. Double dockers are ruined.

I've moved on to Aero.

80sMum · 18/03/2016 22:53

I think DIVINE is quite nice, as is HOTEL CHOCOLAT 50%. No palm oil in those!

One of the other mums at the children's oncology ward wrote to Cadbury's asking if they could spare a few boxes of chocolates to donate to hospital so that the parents can have a little treat. The kids get loads of stuff, at Christmas just gone we were leaving with bags of presents and selection boxes, lots of people think ''oh the kids need a treat'' but it's hard for parents too and it's always nice when you go in to the kitchen and there's cake and a sign saying 'help yourself'. Anyway, Cadbury's said no, they don't do that sort of thing (arseholes). So this mum wrote to Thorntons and they came up trumps. They sent boxes and boxes of chocolates of all different kinds. It was amazing. I recommend the bars with toffee in them. So nice.

Booo to Cadbury's, shame on you. Thorntons, your generosity was very much appreciated, thank you ever so much.

Booo to Cadbury's, shame on you
That's not surprising. Here's what is important to Cadbury's owners:

"I'm proud of our progress over the past couple of years and confident that over the long term, we have the strategy and portfolio to deliver best-in-class growth and margin improvement, while also returning significant cash to our shareholders," said Irene Rosenfeld, Chairman and CEO.

Rosenfeld highlighted the company's value-creation algorithm, which is built on two key pillars — growth and margin expansion. "By building our Power Brands, driving innovation platforms and expanding our distribution capabilities, we're able to leverage our advantaged platform to grow revenue at or above the rates of our categories. At the same time, we'll focus on expanding margins and delivering strong EPS growth by continuing to reduce our supply chain and overhead costs."

In English that last half of the sentence would be ''reduce quality of ingredients and get rid of workers''.

Coupon clippers are ruining industry.

Sallyingforth · 19/03/2016 09:59

... and "avoid paying any corporation tax in the UK".

mrsjskelton · 19/03/2016 10:10

Meh... I'm a Lindt girl anyway GrinChocolate

Thatrabbittrickedme · 19/03/2016 10:30

I have a theory that when the Krafty bastards fired everyone in the UK (having promised as part of the takeover of a long standing and respected UK company that they would not). They accidentally got rid of everyone who knew how to make it properly.

Not really, but any excuse to have a go at Kraft...

Lanark2 · 19/03/2016 20:59

She can still achieve margin growth if sales drop massively. Let's help! Grin

kippersyllabub · 19/03/2016 21:03

They changed the fats they added to cheaper "exotic" fats that are more solid at room temperature. That's what I reckon. Then they can still say "vegetable fat" in the recipe and gloss over the fact it's changed.

I hate the new Cadbury's but what leaves an even worse taste is the British workers who lost their jobs when it fell into the hands of US owners.

Lanark2 · 19/03/2016 21:14

I must admit that if I were an investor, that statement would trigger me to hold onto shares until just before next Christmas and sell like billy-o as its the classic statement of a brand destroyer... Its a 'take money out of the business' statement not a 'make the business make money' so you can see this is a short termist, quick resignation and bonus/payoff strategy. The only thing that I would consider holding on for is the inevitable resale in 2018.

kippersyllabub · 19/03/2016 21:25

It's the rounded edges that get to me. The shape of food has a strong effect on the mouthfeel, and thus on the way the brain interprets the taste.

Rounded corners is pure and simple making ways to cut costs. Bars with rounded edges require less chocolate per bar. It's not about improving anything: it's about profit margins and who cares what the customers think.

Me: I think chocolate tastes better with proper corners.

Ethelswith · 19/03/2016 21:26

We went ski-ing and brought back a lot of Swiss own-label supermarket chocolate. I'm about to try Waitrose own label (as the ingredients list looks fine).

offtoeuropa · 20/03/2016 09:14

Hershey's contains butyric acid which is what causes vomit to smell the way it does.

QueenLaBeefah · 20/03/2016 09:24

That is reassuring offtoeuropa as I thought Hershey's just contained vomit. Grin

whatdoIget · 20/03/2016 10:06

WHY does it contain butyric acid though?? Why would that be in food? What's wrong with people? 😫

dannydyerismydad · 20/03/2016 10:27

Their Facebook page is a shocker!

I can't believe a business that big fails to interact with its customers. They just don't care at all.

Floppityflop · 20/03/2016 10:30

Will watch with interest!

whatdoIget · 20/03/2016 10:57

I've just been reading about butyric acid and it's created as a side-effect of the different manufacturing processes used with American chocolate. I suppose they're used to it? I hope someone has still got the proper Cadbury recipe for dairy milk

Thatrabbittrickedme · 20/03/2016 11:23

Sakes have dropped in the UK. But not by nearly enough IMO...

Eustace2016 · 20/03/2016 11:27

Now might be a good time for peopple to give up chocolate for life. It only takes about 3 weeks to lose the taste for it and it really is basically a poison and bad on so many levels.

Equiem89 · 20/03/2016 11:35

I used to eat loads of creme eggs, couldn't get enough of them. Last year I had one, this year I haven't had any and doubt I will. They are horrible! Someone at work bought back some Hershey's and they really do taste like vomit, they are vile!
I do still eat twirls but that's about it from Cadburys

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/03/2016 16:50

I tried a Crunchie today in the name of research on the basis that it only has the tiniest sliver of Cadbury's alleged "chocolate" on it. Had to bin it halfway - it tasted slimy and vile. I have never before thrown away half eaten chocolate.

shakes fist at Kraft

MoonriseKingdom · 20/03/2016 17:10

In the link thatrabbit posted - what was wrong with the 22% of people polled who thought the new creme egg tasted better!!! Did they not understand the question? Do they work for Kraft? Even my DH who will eat almost anything and loves chocolate has conceded that Cadburys just doesn't taste good anymore. He used to regularly buy the big bars but hasn't bought one in ages. I hope their profits continue to tumble.
