migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

Well if only everyone had your strength of character lovely Haha!

Seriously you'd be such a model of perfect behaviour no matter what misery you endured. Easy to say that as you sit somewhere passing your time posting in mumsnet.

Out there right now are real people enduring real misery

Cerseirys · 04/09/2015 23:43

#creepingsharia is a joke btw, just in case anyone didn't click on the link!

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 23:44

Yes, blind people have been refused a taxi because dogs are considered dirty, ridiculous I know but there you are. Laugh if you like but its not funny to a blind person.

spatchcock · 04/09/2015 23:44

It's no joke when we're no longer allowed Easter eggs, Cerseirys. :(

ziaren · 04/09/2015 23:45

So many things about the current crisis concerns me.
A very important point to consider in these times of religious wars (where one type of muslim is killing others for being "the wrong type" of muslim) is how successfully so many muslims will integrate into predominantly christian or atheist countries. How tolerant of western ways and western tolerance are they? And for how long? I am concerned by the fact that so many more men (than women and children) fled. Most of those fleeing are from places where they regard women to be of less worth than men. Within their chosen countries where will they settle, inner cities? Where local amenities (in the UK: housing, school places, NHS doctors & dentists...) are already stretched to breaking point. Do they speak the language of their chosen countries, have they any qualifications? How are they to earn a living once settled? So they pack themselves into sub-standard housing, in sub-human living conditions (which, by the way, is just geography i.e. moving them from camps in Syria and Calais into inner cities in Europe). How long before their resentment grows and bubbles over? I fear our bleeding hearts are leading us into what could potentially be disastrous in just a couple of generations.
Is it possible to redirect the foreign aid budget to build up safe enclaves within their region of the world? What about other Arab States that are not war-torn? Surely countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Jordan, Yemen...could be helping? And those fleeing wars wouldn't have to drown in droves to reach these Arab States!

As an aside, the man who lost both sons and a wife mentioned giving smugglers £5000 (or Euros) to get them all to Europe. Really?

Violetbeau · 04/09/2015 23:45

Grin at Cerseirys Sansary and spatchcock - laughter helps with a topic as grim as this. Time to go to bed I think.

Cerseirys · 04/09/2015 23:46

Just out of curiosity shabby, did you happen to read about that incident in the Mail or Express?

Violetbeau · 04/09/2015 23:48

Actually where is this assumption that they're mostly men coming from? I can't find evidence of that anywhere. I'll happily stand corrected if it's true

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 23:50

The guide dogs? No, I have blind friends who were refused a taxi, we live in a high muslim area, they had to walk home. Do you think that's funny?

HoursTurnIntoDays · 04/09/2015 23:50

lovely before I go to sleep - please you never answered my question above:
tell me how christian Europe should treat these refugees?

If Europe is Christian then how can we treat these refugees in a Christian way?

SansaryaAgain · 04/09/2015 23:52

Here's a story of a blind pensioner who was refused a cab because of her dog. Cabbie with the very Muslim name of John Derek Maycroft...

spatchcock · 04/09/2015 23:53

Sansarya how dare you bring facts into this discussion?

LilMissSunshine9 · 04/09/2015 23:55

well its already beginning you don't even have to look that long term..heard on the news earlier that London Borough of Camden will be housing a few thousand migrants/refugees despite having a housing waiting list of 30,000 people already...if they cannot house those on the waiting list how on earth are they going to house any more?

David Cameron announced today another £100m of money to help them yet has cut cancer drug treatments which will affect over 5,000 of our own citizens and for future citizens who will need them too .. unfortunately he cannot find the £340m that is needed for that funding but hey ho lets help people who haven't contributed to our country first before our very own citizens. Besides why prolong the life of our very own 5,000 citizens.. will make room for those who are coming right. Disgusting to see this is happening!

Samcro · 04/09/2015 23:56

some muslims are not nice
some christians are not nice
some atheists are not nice.

but some people are .........

CatThiefKeith · 04/09/2015 23:56

Fucking hell.

All of this bollocks about these poor refugees being extremists in disguise is really pissing me off.

They are fleeing the extremists!

Do you really think ISIS has gone to all the trouble of training extreme terrorists only to risk sending them across a choppy sea on a glorified kilo and have a fiimsy chance of survival when there are plenty of actual terrorists that have every right to just fly here on a plane legitimately BECAUSE THEY WERE BLEEDING BORN HERE???

Jesus wept. They are desperate people, we have taken only a fraction of what other countries have. Should the Jews have stayed in Germany too?

I'm thoroughly ashamed to be English at the moment

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 23:57

Ignore all the other facts I pointed out but concentrate on the dogs, that's ok then.

spatchcock · 04/09/2015 23:59

You know what's disgusting? The fact the government is prioritising banks and big corporations over people who need help - whether from our own country or not. Somehow we've found money for Trident, the Olympics and MP payrises, a subsidised bar for our MPs, IT systems costing 50 million quid which don't get used (I'm looking at you Ministry of Justice). I could go on and on. But you don't really hear about that. You just hear about benefit scroungers and now ... asylum seekers.

Samcro · 05/09/2015 00:00

LilMissSunshine9 good post
I have been slagged off on mn today for daring to ask how we can afford this, whilst we are cutting benefits to the most vulnerable. obviously a few good head lines are more important to scameron than supporting the vulnerable we all ready have here.

Cerseirys · 05/09/2015 00:01

shabby you might want to consult your dictionary for the correct definition of the word "fact"...

spatchcock · 05/09/2015 00:02

Shabby they weren't really facts, they were Daily Mailesque hate soundbites. I don't think anyone wanted to dignify them with a response. But I will - when people move to our country they do so knowing our laws. Last time I looked women didn't have to cover themselves with headscarves, right? And we have gay marriage? You don't have to buy halaal meat. Need me to go on? Do you think accepting six Muslims per borough will really change that?

SansaryaAgain · 05/09/2015 00:03

Well said CatThief.

Cerseirys · 05/09/2015 00:06

Jeez, you'd think halal meat was being rammed down people's throats the way some go on about it. It isn't a particularly nice way of killing an animal but what is? And look at the dairy industry. It's fucking brutal. Yet the people banging on about how cruel halal is don't seem to give consideration to that.

Moreshabbythanchic · 05/09/2015 00:09

Its hard not to buy halal meat in a supermarket, most muslim women in my area are covered, fgm and arranged marriages are still going on despite our laws, do I need to go on? You must live in a different area to me.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 00:09

O and what about our EU membership costs to the tune of billions...anyone seeing any benefit right now to staying in it? Really? Being told by Germany we 'have' to take in x amount are they serious? Who actually governs our country because on the face of it you would think its our parliament but lately I being to question it.

spatchcock · 05/09/2015 00:15

Yeah but shabby what does it matter to you if someone is covered? Or has an arranged marriage? Are you worried someone will arrange a marriage for you behind your back? It doesn't work that way. And I simply don't believe you that they all "fgm". I don't believe you have ever even talked to a Muslim.
