migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:27

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

I feel like I've stumbled into the Daily Mail comments section. So much ill-informed hysteria.

Stompylongnose · 04/09/2015 23:28

Western values will be shorthand for democracy, tolerance and equality.

HoursTurnIntoDays · 04/09/2015 23:28

i felt some of my sympathy ebb away when i saw the food and water throwing. i feel there is a huge lack of respect and yes, gratitude on the part of the migrants

Seriously OP have a heart!

If you'd

  • had family members killed
  • lost your job, home, everything
-fled a war torn country -walked across a few countries -sailed across a sea in a leaking boat
  • had no money
  • didn't know where your next meal was coming from
  • had to sleep on the street with your small children
  • had an extremely uncertain future
  • we're being forced into a grim camp
  • etc etc etc

....would you not despair and get pissed off - I certainly would! In fact it would take a lot less before is snap!!!

Remember these are fellow humans

  • there but by the grace of God go you!

Hours, has there not been centuries of animosity and bloodshed between Christians and muslims ? Do you really think that giving, lets call it 1 million all said and done muslims entry to Europe is going to be a peaceful union ? i don't think so.

extremists of any kind are a dangerous breed of people. they do not back down until they achieve whatever their goal is, and it is a fact that extremist muslims want to take down the West. to me, that is a frightening prospect.

I haven't seen a slow takeover either. Is this to do with banning Christmas and implementing Sharia Law?

Violetbeau · 04/09/2015 23:30

shabby - slow takeover? Yes, there are Muslim people living here. So far you haven't actually articulated what the problem with that is. I teach at a university with many Muslim students and the vast majority of them are lovely just like any other students. I wonder how many Muslim people you've actually met? Why do you assume they're all bad people?

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 23:30

A lot of people in Europe are under the impression that these migrants/refugees are just like us but they are not. They have different values and cultures to us, they treat women and children as inferior beings and their religion is the most important thing above all else.

ilovesooty · 04/09/2015 23:30

Anyone would think there aren't any British murderers, extremists or paedophiles.

Cerseirys · 04/09/2015 23:30

FFS, has anyone seen what's happening in Hungary? People are being packed onto crowded trains and sent off with no real idea of their destination. Now doesn't that sound just a little familiar?

spatchcock · 04/09/2015 23:31

Lovely do you have any idea how many millions of Muslims are already in Europe? 44 million. What do you think the extra million will do that hasn't already been done?!

Violetbeau · 04/09/2015 23:32

OP but muslim does not = extremist. Extremists of every religion are bad news. Extremist Christians exist as well. And the irony is that the Muslim extremists are exactly who these refugees are fleeing!

SansaryaAgain · 04/09/2015 23:32

shabby, given the amount of women in the UK who are killed by men every week, I'm not sure that a lot of men here don't view women as inferior.

SwedishEdith · 04/09/2015 23:33

I shouldn't get drawn into this but ..."A lot of people in Europe are under the impression that these migrants/refugees are just like us but they are not."

Who are "us"? What does "us" look like here?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 23:33

hours, i would be so grateful to be out of my godforsaken home country, i would be thankful to Hungary for temporarily taking me in, and i would toe the line regarding the law, as i would be aware that i WILL get to Germany, uk etc, when procedures have been followed.

i feel that the stampede and dismissal of the law, is doing nothing but aggravating the situation, and causing an unrealistic sence of panic and hysteria.

leccybill · 04/09/2015 23:35

Are the healthy young migrant men fleeing their home countries leaving the women behind to genuinely go out and find food, work and shelter before bringing their families, or are women left behind as they are thought of in some parts of muslim culture as second-class citizens/subservient?

As a border country, has Lebanon, or nearby Israel, taken in many migrants?

What about Cyprus (EU) and Northern Cyprus (Turkish)? It looks to be a relatively short distance by sea?

ColinTheCaterpillar · 04/09/2015 23:35

I do love a 'European Christian' considering Jesus was from the Middle East. So therefore I'm assuming he would have a fair amount of sympathy for the refugees.

wotoodoo · 04/09/2015 23:37

It is the gross gender imbalance that seriously bothers me with today's crisis. Why are there 97% or more males fleeing?

When dh's family were refugees, the whole family left on a boat. The healthy males of the family didn't leave their daughters, mothers and sisters behind to be raped and killed.

But then dh's family didn't think of women as second class citizens.

Moreshabbythanchic · 04/09/2015 23:39

I'm too tired to argue but I will say

fgm

sharia law

no go areas

no dogs in taxis

halal meat

time off work and special areas for prayers

inter family and arranged marriage

no tolerance of gays

woman to be covered at all times

being spat at in the street in my own country

I have seen it all and only in the last few years and I don't want that for my children and grandchildren in this country.

Cerseirys · 04/09/2015 23:39

Well spatchcock, haven't you heard of #creepingsharia?

Violetbeau · 04/09/2015 23:40

Yes Leccy, as I said earlier, Lebanon has over a million, and their population is only 4 million. That is huge. Also Turkey has taken 1.8 million

SansaryaAgain · 04/09/2015 23:40

No dogs in taxis? My god! How will Spot ever make it home?

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 04/09/2015 23:40

Can someone remind me where St George came from please...I forget...

spatchcock · 04/09/2015 23:41

No I haven't. I am wondering now that we're going to have 6 more Muslims in each borough if we might see more of it though.

Violetbeau · 04/09/2015 23:41

shabby lol at no dogs in taxis thrown in there

Stompylongnose · 04/09/2015 23:42

Love the #creepingsharia page. Smile
