To think Tory voters have no moral compass and empathy

Firstly I'm not labour I follow politics but can not think of a party I really relate to.

Anyway every article I read the book I'm reading has made me come to that conclusion. I'm currently reading a book by Owen Jones which has really opened my eyes.

The fact that anyone with below £10 mil in their account can vote for them is beyond me.

But why would anyone vote for a party that bashes the disabled the poor and anyone outside of their Etonian elite. The only people that would want a party and policies like this have to have no empathy.

Here we go Hmm. It's started early this time - how many days is it until the election?

TattyDevine · 02/03/2015 20:35

I can't be bothered, you don't sound terribly astute. Sorry.

Izzywizzyletsgetbizzy · 02/03/2015 20:36

Can't be arsed.

CrystalCove · 02/03/2015 20:37

Because there are some people that have the attitude "I'm alright" who cares about anyone else.

Fairenuff · 02/03/2015 20:37

Izzywizzyletsgetbizzy · 02/03/2015 20:38

would that be Chavs that you read?

You should also read The Spirit Level. You will never see society the same again. It basically explains, from a sociological point of view, why large wealth disparity is bad for everyone in society, not just those at the lower income levels. Also, we like to think that if we work hard enough, are clever enough or what ever, we can be who we want to be. Actually that is rarely true. If you are born in to poverty, it's very difficult to move out of it.

I'm too tired tonight to explain properly. Check out the book though. Very interesting. Fat is another one that looks at health inequalities. Also worth a read.

Lovemycatsandkids · 02/03/2015 20:40

Maybe you should stop reading books and make up your own mind?

I last voted labour because I liked Tony Blaire. Enough said.

Now there's ed balls and the ridiculous Ed Milliband.

There's posh Tory boys or the dead man walking poor old Cleggy.

Why are you posing a question about moral compasses etc and then want to stop discussion about the Labour Party?

God help us all in my opinion they are all crap at the moment.

If only john smith had survived. He was a good man.

SaucyJack · 02/03/2015 20:41

There are plenty poor, struggling Tory voters. Usually the ones with jobs tho.

GymBum · 02/03/2015 20:42

I believe people should vote for whomever they feel meets their needs, whatever those maybe. Bearing this in mind I think YABU if you are judging everyone that may vote for the Tories based on reading a book written by a left wing, ex trade union lobbyist and parliamentary researcher for the Labour Party. Surely he will hate Tories for very obvious reasons and therefore whatever he says will be biased.

Anyway that's my two pence added.

babybottombutter · 02/03/2015 20:42

I remember a very rich (but quite thick) person telling me once, 'well, you vote for who's going to sort you out, don't you?'

It's always stuck with me.

No. No, we don't.

SolomanDaisy · 02/03/2015 20:43

I think there are some Tories who simply don't have the empathy or experience to know or care what effect their policies have on ordinary people. But there are also Tories who genuinely believe that the best way to help improve people's lives is to help them help themselves and that their policies will broadly help rather than harm. I don't agree with them, but there's no point pretending they're all sociopaths.

Justanotherlurker · 02/03/2015 20:43

You may want to stop reading the rag that is the mirror, as it does kind of show which horse your backing.

It's clear you just want to engage in a circle jerk of 'evil tories' and not want to discuss any other parties policies makes me think you should head back to the SU as you arent quite ready for a grown up discussion around politics.

Caveat: swing voter

Ubik1 · 02/03/2015 20:43

I really really don't know why people want to vote for this shower.

I can only think it's because they are protecting benefits for pensioners at ALL costs.

mytartanscarf · 02/03/2015 20:44

I think I will be voting conservative in this election and I can assure you I have plenty of empathy. Nor am I a daily mail reader.

I don't agree with all their policies, but then there isn't a party that stands a chance of getting in who's policies I do agree with, unfortunately.

Primadonnagirl · 02/03/2015 20:44

Well I vote for the party that has the leader with the nicest smile.

Why not? Just as logical as your position OP

Ubik1 · 02/03/2015 20:45

And it's great you are reading Owen Jones. And another vote fir The Spirit Level here too.

attheendoftheday · 02/03/2015 20:46

YANBU. I don't get why anyone is right wing. It's just a nice term for being selfish and self-interested isn't it?

Charlotte3333 · 02/03/2015 20:47

DH votes Tory and has a pretty sound moral compass. He's also one of the kindest people you could hope to meet.

I vote Labour and have the vocabulary of an irate sailor and some questionable morals occasionally.

It's an incrediby narrow-minded opinion you have of Tory voters.

attheendoftheday · 02/03/2015 20:48

And I don't think voting for the nicest smile is as valid a way of voting as deciding on policy from a point of view of personal ethics!

Hoppinggreen · 02/03/2015 20:48

So never having met someone and knowing ONE thing about them ( how they vote) makes you think you can pass judgement on their character??
YABU
