To think Tory voters have no moral compass and empathy

Firstly I'm not labour I follow politics but can not think of a party I really relate to.

Anyway every article I read the book I'm reading has made me come to that conclusion. I'm currently reading a book by Owen Jones which has really opened my eyes.

The fact that anyone with below £10 mil in their account can vote for them is beyond me.

But why would anyone vote for a party that bashes the disabled the poor and anyone outside of their Etonian elite. The only people that would want a party and policies like this have to have no empathy.

Ha! Ha! We have had "all UKIP voters are rascits/disblist" etc
Now we have a"All Tory voters a lack moral compass and are full of self interest"
We need a couple more:
"All Labour voters are...."
"All Liberal voters are....."

Answers on a postcard please

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/03/2015 21:33

No, they're not all amoral and without empathy.

Some of them just haven't thought the whole thing through properly.

FyreFly · 02/03/2015 21:38

You're right Sad.

I should clearly decline my PhD offer as I'm too thick, and I should stop volunteering at my local hospice as I have no empathy.

Wanders off to find a (Tory) whip to self-flagellate with in penance

Radiatorvalves · 02/03/2015 21:46

Not a Tory voter, although married to one.

Hazarding a guess that in the next election the split of the vote will be similar to last time (36% con, 29% lab, 23% LibDems). So a third approx of the voters have no moral compass or empathy? Don't agree with that one OP.

LurkingHusband · 02/03/2015 21:47

The report concludes that children who live in the poorest UK households have less of a chance of escaping poverty than when Labour came to power. Yet, child poverty is one of Labour's key targets, and has been at the heart of the political agenda since 1999

It's often been said - and shown with statistics - that you don't fix poverty by throwing money at it.

What is it about the current conservative government that makes you want them in for a second term?

editthis · 02/03/2015 22:08

YABU.

I'm no Conservative, but you should know that right-leaning = power to the individual and left-leaning = power to the state. It's not right = bad and left = good, no matter the current fashion for thinking thus.

So if you find yourself moaning about the Nanny State, and ID cards, and an excess of CCTV, or having certain choices taken away from you "for your own good", you'd do well to remember that those are ideologically left-wing initiatives.

Money always equals choice. So people being able to afford private healthcare and or to educate their children at expensive schools might not sit well with you, but it would be a dangerous day the right to choose were taken away from them. Off the top of my head, that's a reason why some people have right-leaning tendencies.

Or is the what is it about the current Labour Party that makes you want the conservatives in for a second term?

Ubik1 · 02/03/2015 22:12

Gringymbum

I'm voting fir neither

GymBum · 02/03/2015 22:15

Gutted... I like that reverse question rubbish! Grin

Sallystyle · 02/03/2015 22:19

I really can't see how anyone who votes for them gives two hoots about our most vulnerable. It shocks me when people I know and love agree with their policies.

RocketInMyPocket · 02/03/2015 22:25

I know suite a few people who switched to tory last election, muttering things like 'At least they admit they don't give a shit about us'.

ReallyTired · 02/03/2015 22:25

Labour need to work harder to make themselves electable. There is no doubt that the poor and disabled have suffered disportionately under the Tories. However labour frittered tax payers' money when they were in power. We need a strong ecomony so that people are not dependent on the state. Labour's policies would bankrupt the nation.

RocketInMyPocket · 02/03/2015 22:26

*quite a few people

maninawomansworld · 02/03/2015 22:28

There are two types of person - net takers (those who get more from the state than they pay in taxes) and they are generally labour supporting lefts, then there are net givers - (those who work hard, make a little bit of money and get taxed to the hilt to support the 'drag factor' of the net takers. )

These people generally will be more right wing Tory inclined because they're pissed off at the rest of the country thinking they can dip their hands into their pockets willy nilly.

I'm a net giver and a Tory voter. I do care about those less fortunate but I also think that many people could do a lot more to help themselves rather than just hold their hands out all the time !

Samcro · 02/03/2015 22:30

i think that post sums the thread up, I would love to know how a severely disabled person, or someone with cancer can help them selves.

Sallystyle · 02/03/2015 22:38

Exactly Samcro

And these are the people that are being hit the hardest.

Ubik1 · 02/03/2015 22:38

Yup there are absolutely two types of person: net givers - doctors, nurses, teachers, police officers , care workers etc

And net takers - those who screw the system - criminals, cheats and bankers

YokoUhOh · 03/03/2015 06:03

man has clearly never thought about what would happen if he suddenly became incapacitated, through no fault of his own. There's still plenty of time to become a 'net taker'...

Hakluyt · 03/03/2015 06:16

"Maybe you should stop reading books and make up your own mind"

Never has a single sentence better summed up all that is wrong with Britain today!

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 03/03/2015 06:21

Arf.

I think you know YABU OP. But since we're all sharing our anecdotal opinions, has anyone noticed how leftists claim to support democracy until the Tories get elected? Then they whine that the voting system is rigged and it's not faaaair! Before too long they suggest that stupid people (who obviously vote Tory) should not be allowed to vote, without seeming to appreciate the irony...

GymBum · 03/03/2015 06:46

Grin # Young

GratefulHead · 03/03/2015 06:55

I was going to tell the OP that they were unreasonable. Then I read man just below me...a more smug and "know your place peasants" post than I have read in a long time.

please note man that even YOU are not immune to fate should it decide to strike. Then you too can be part of the "drag factor caused by net takers". Hope that helps.

But...

Of course the OP is being unreasonable, I don't vote Tory but have friends who do, all of whom have more soul than man and more understanding of how life can whack you between the eyes when you least expect it.
