Subway - Halal issue

I feel a bit annoyed that 200 Subway stores are removing their Ham and Bacon due to requests from their Muslim customers.

I think the process of producing Halal meat is cruel, but obviously that isn't an issue to Subway.

There are plenty of Subway stores that advertise their pork as being Halal so why this? It's not earth shattering stuff but ...

Should I move to a muslim country and want to open a strip club would that be allowed?

MrsD have often wondered how many of the UKIP and BNP and EDL who are so against Halal eat on their all inclusive holidays to countries like Egypt for example.
Principles and holidays in the sun probably don't mix for them.

What is "turkey ham"? I haven't eaten turkey in over 40 years but it sounds awful.

In January 2012 there were 1423 subways in the uk with a view to open 600 more by 2015.

185 subway stores are halal. That is just under 13% of stores (probably an underestimate as they will have opened more stores by now)

Throughout the uk those identifying as Muslim make up 4.8% of the population, but there is a higher percentage of Muslims in larger cities, over 34% in some boroughs of London, 24% in Bradford, 21% in Birmingham for example. There are also more subways in larger cities. So there is probably a similar percentage of halal subways in larger cities as there are Muslim people.

Those people who object to the halal method of slaughter can eat ham and bacon subs to your hearts content in 87% of subways's stores. Those practising the second largest religion in the uk can eat food acceptable to them in 13% of subways's stores.

In America, some subways offer a fully kosher menu, there used to be many more kosher branches but they went back to being non kosher cause they weren't making money. Subway is a business, it doesn't give a monkeys about religion, it just wants to make money. By having the option of halal restaurants they will make more money.

Stunned or not, death of an animal should be as instant as possible. That to me means that stunning an animal and waiting for it to bleed to death doesn't meet my personal moral code of what's acceptable.

Btw, I'm a humanist so being pro Christian or anti Islam doesn't come into it for me. Animal welfare does.

Oh and I hate the fact that halal means much of the animal is not eaten by believers. That's disrespectful and wasteful of the animal killed.

I agree though that most halal is prepared appropriately especially in large chain stores in the UK. However, it's individually sourced halal that I'd be less sure of. I think it's the ethics of how halal is proposed to be prepared that bothers me.

If it was the EDL would be banging on about Kosher meat but they don't because they do not want to lose the support of a minority of Jewish supports*

Its a franchise. Maybe the owners are Muslim as well as being placed in a predominantly Muslim area.
It would make total business sense to serve halal products and it would be a personal preference to be exclusively halal.
