Hundreds of vipers vaping in our fifth thread!!

Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Shonajay I tried one in a shop the other week. They are nice. Myepack have them priced reasonably.
You will need to buy batteries separately though.

they're smaller than they look in the pictures online - I expected it to be bigger. Quite comfy in the hand.

And the problem will be with the clearo, not the MVP2.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 21/04/2014 22:09

My lovely and DP's pipe!

Enjoying the MVP so much, came off the charger yesterday morning and still has a green power light! Woo! It also almost fully charged my phone in under an hour a couple of nights ago when in the car from Newcastle.

Btw, the metrocentre in Newcastle doesn't allow vaping in the centre. Their words were "we treat them like every other normal cigarette". Angry :( However I did spot one of the staff vaping outside a shop and there is actually a VIP e cigs shop in it! Confused

Can't remember who was after purple clearos, but just found THIS on e-bay - your choice of colours, £10.99 for pack of 10 so £10.99 for 10 purple if that's what you want!

The pictures LOOK like genuine ones, with the little boxes & everything, and at that price even if half are dodgy I still think it's a bargain?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/04/2014 09:47

Ooh they've got pink! I haven't seen those before. I bet some people here will be all over those Grin

Schro your 'lovely' is very tasteful, does it have sparkly eyes? Loving the pipe too. If you were bored you could write to metrocentre and ask them lots of questions about their policy Smile

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/04/2014 10:15

It does have sparkly eyes Blush. DP's pipe is pretty cool looking but we haven't been able to try it yet as I forgot to buy a battery charger!

Tempted to email the Metrocenter. Just because they have an e cig shop and all of their newsagents sell them.

magimedi · 22/04/2014 11:53

I have a couple of really great stories about vaping for you.

I popped into my local shop this morning to get some new wicks & Kate was telling me about a customer who gave up fags 6 months ago as he was very ill with a chronic lung condition & needed an operation but could not have it as his lung function was too bad to have an anaesthetic (sp??). Six months on & he is having the op tomorrow as his lung function has improved so much.

The second story is mine. I have lost weight & dropped a whole size!! Went shopping this am & my normal size is too big! And when I saw a friend I haven't seen for a while she told me I'd lost weight.

I put it down to vaping. My lung function is so much better that I now swim 1K 3x a week & am sure that is what has trimmed me down. I am no sylph, but am still delighted.

Good for you Magi, well done Thanks

After months of trying to get my mum to try e cigs she asked me this morning if I would get her one. She's tried a few of my non tobacco flavours but I'd really like to get her something similar to Regal. Can anyone recommend a good tobacco flavour?

magimedi · 22/04/2014 12:30

The Sherlock from ecigwizard.com is my tobacco juice of choice, Maggie.

OP posts:
MaggieMcGill · 22/04/2014 12:48

My local shop stocks ecigwizard, I got a few bottles last week but no tobacco flavour. They do 3 bottles for £10. I think I'll get her the sherlock and another couple to try. I'd love for her to stop smoking.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/04/2014 17:16

That's fantastic magi! I am going to try going a run tomorrow I think. I'm trying to get my joints working better and I feel fitter so might as well try...

ICanSeeTheSun · 22/04/2014 18:24

Wish me luck.

A few questions.

  1. will I have cravings
  2. the best way to charge
  3. what will the side effects of giving up smoking
  4. I am ok to come on here to rant away.

ICanSeeTheSun · 22/04/2014 18:26

My reason for giving up.

More money, not to smell like smoke, got an operation coming up, to feel better within myself.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/04/2014 18:51

Yay magi, that's brilliant!

Maggie, good luck to your mum. My mum is really cross they were not around when she had to give up. She hasn't smoked for about 7 years but still misses it every day Sad

Good luck, ICanSeeTheSun! That looks like an evod clearomiser on an ego battery (this will be handy to know in case you have any problems with it later)

1) will I have cravings
You might, some people 'dual fuel' for a while before making a complete switch. On the other hand, lots of people never want a fag at all as soon as they start vaping. How many do you smoke a day and what strength liquid do you have?

2) the best way to charge
Always use the charger it came with.

3) what will the side effects of giving up smoking
You might cough more in the early weeks as your lungs clear. You might get bleeding gums if you have any underlying gum disease that has been masked by smoking. Some people get mouth ulcers for a while. Your sense of smell will return which can be a mixed blessing Grin

4) I am ok to come on here to rant away.
Yes!

ICanSeeTheSun · 22/04/2014 18:55

Thank you, I have a USB charger but have read that iphone plugs are dangerous to use. My pc only has back USB ports so would be a pain to use.

I do have a PS4 with USB sockets.

Just want the safest way

ICanSeeTheSun · 22/04/2014 18:57

I smoke around 15 Windsor blue a day, I have 2.4% nicotine rainbow flavoured

Shonajay · 22/04/2014 18:57

Out for lunch with friend in a pub today, the barman said "you're welcome to vape if you'd like to". Thought that was really cool. Did it once the ladies opposite had finished eating to be polite. Anyway, the guy said the clearo on my MVP was very dark (the fluid inside) and he reckoned it was time to change it, sorry for the daft question but is that right? I so, where's the best place to buy them in bulk. Thankyou in advance!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/04/2014 19:12

Maybe just time for a clean? Also, is the liquid you use dark to begin with? I know some are coloured, Kraken's squid ink is purple (and I want it).

Shonajay · 22/04/2014 19:22

Ahh cleaning, yes that could indeed be an idea since I've not cleaned it in 4 weeks. It was clear liquid originally. Thanks!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/04/2014 19:28

I've found my Iclear30 has needed cleaned a couple of times since I got it just a week ago. Confused Probably the liquids I have been using.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/04/2014 19:31

Some liquids do go dark fairly quickly just from the heat of the atomiser. I'd just carry on if it tastes OK shona.

ICanSee, PS4 sockets would be the same as charging it from a PC I think? I also think any standard USB wall charger (i.e. not iphone) is fine. I use my tablet charger and nothing's exploded yet! this is sold specifically for ecigs but it doesn't say what the current is (they're all 5 volts). You could get a charging bag to be doubly safe.

2.4 should be plenty of nicotine to start with. WTF is rainbow flavour? Is it nice?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/04/2014 19:32

Oh right, yeah, 4 weeks - probably time for a clean!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/04/2014 19:41

Intrigued as to what rainbow flavour is too!

We use socket plugs, one from a skycig charger and one bought from local vaping store. We also use the Xbox which works fine.

BlueSkyCrystal · 22/04/2014 19:44

You find the best flavours, Schro Smile

This one goes perfectly with my username.

Although I got my starter kit at the weekend, I've only started today after I ran out of cigarettes at lunch time. Got a headache, don't know if there's any connection but it seemed to start after first vape & hasn't lifted. I think I'm addicted to the clarty taste of fags as well as the nicotine Blush.
