Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Blue I've heard that's really nice! The Kraken juices sound lovely but I have been skint and putting off buying... I think I may just be tempted to now though...

Member I seem to remember having a headache too, I don't think it was the vaping but withdrawl from something in the cigs... I liked the taste of fags too but kept with it and tried a draw of one a couple of weeks ago and nearly threw up!

Shonajay · 22/04/2014 20:29

Thanks. I just tried to fill my aspire clearo as it came with my rainbow spinner today. Should've watched the video before I tried- half a bottle of juice all over the work top! Enjoying the spinner, now off to find a video on cleaning my clearo with wicks in It that came with my first ecig from wizArd- can't see a make on it are they all the same cleaning them?

Sorry I AM trying to be self sufficient x

Allergictoironing · 22/04/2014 21:56

Evening guys & gals. Got a call this morning asking if I could go sort out my mate's neck & shoulder as it had seized up overnight. Shot over there - came home with 30ml Red tobacco, 30ml Apple & 10ml strawberry as a thank you! More than worth the 45 mile round trip Grin

Shonajay · 23/04/2014 14:07

Allergic I wish you could sort my back out- three back surgeries and still on morphine.

Very pleased with my rainbow spinner, after initially filling it wrong, it's fab, lots of smoke. My next purchase is going to be the innokin grenade one, so cute! And then that's me, I'm going to learn how to rebuild them. I have about thirty different flavours so that will do me for a while.

Can I ask- how many mls do people vape in a week? X

Shonajay · 23/04/2014 14:53

Oh and I'd bought all the flavours from that closing down shop someone mentioned. Felt so bad so sent them a nice message, nice surprise since I'd forgotten.

MaggieMcGill · 23/04/2014 16:15

Shona, I've never really worked out how much I go through because I use a lot of different flavours in different clearos but I think it would average about 20 mls a week.

Have you received your liquid form that shop yet? I've not but only ordered mine on Saturday.

magimedi · 23/04/2014 16:18

20 25mls a week (depending on stress/irritation levels). I vape 12ml strength.

3 back surgeries & stil in such pain is not good - is there any more they can do for you?

OP posts:
Raia · 23/04/2014 16:32

I'm getting through about 3ml a day, vaping 18mg strength after five weeks off the stinkies.

Postie brought five more bottles of liquid from the alchemist's cupboard this morning - their liquids are full of flavour unlike just about all of the other brands I've tried so far. Might be me dodgy taste buds, although the vaper's tongue has eased off now I'm downing a couple of litres of water a day Grin

SoleSource · 23/04/2014 18:43

Hello vapers :)

I went to Lloyd's chemist and bought the menthol crystals. To put in my triple menthol liquid :)

The crystals do work, taste strong, at last!

Lora1982 · 23/04/2014 18:52

Ok im scared to use the mains plug adaper for my charger... bought it from amazon because ive lost our original one, still have the wire though. Just with all the fire risk news I dont know if im safe to use it!!

Allergictoironing · 23/04/2014 19:04

Shona if nothing else I could Reiki a bit of the pain away, and would if I could Sad. My training is actually in sports injury massage therapy & I used to be pretty good at it, but my own back is so bad that I can't cope with doing it properly any more. But I'm still DAMNED good at the Reiki side, and keep a bit in practice at the massage on friends & family.

Went back today for a follow up, and to take advantage of his wife having her hairdresser round as mine was well overdue for a cut. Not only did she insist on paying for my hair, but he sent me away with a 50ml bottle of a flavour they are testing to add to their range Grin.

MaggieMcGill · 23/04/2014 19:12

Magi, I've just left my mum sucking away quite happy on the Sherlock, also got her dark horse and mrs c's custard or something. She likes your one best just now so fingers crossed Grin

icanneverremember · 23/04/2014 19:39

Hiya, I'm sorry to hijack this thread but I'm really worried and you seem like the best people to ask.
The problem is that I'm totally 100% addicted. I vape all day and go through at least 1 whole cartomiser a day. I'm terrified it's going tobaffect my health. I'm scared that there's going to be some revelation that it can cause cancer, possibly even quicker than smoking can. How safe do you think it is? Am I over doing it?

Lora1982 · 23/04/2014 19:47

My thoughts are that you get cancer from just looking at a tree these days. Clearly smoking doesnt help your chances of being one of the lucky ones who don't get it but I've switched to vaping as im no longer ruining my health as seriously as cigs do. I often wonder if the water vapour can affect your lungs because in effect your breathing in a gas type liquid so some must go in your lungs, who knows. Ive been off the fags 8 days and still crave them but I seriously do not miss the tobacco stained fingers :-D

whatadrama · 23/04/2014 19:49

Blimey ican i hope not! Mines permanently attached to my gob unless i'm asleep or doing the school run Blush

ICanSeeTheSun · 23/04/2014 20:01

Well cut down to half today only 7 normal fags.

Don't know how to explain the rainbow taste, nothing like skittles though :)

ICanSeeTheSun · 23/04/2014 20:03

Similar to the very popular cigarette. A very popular e liquid that produces lots of vapour.

Is what I found on the net

icanneverremember · 23/04/2014 20:09

whatadrama - glad I'm not the only one Grin Seriously though, does it worry you? I just worry that it's too good to be true. I love my ecigs far more than I ever did real ones Blush

whatadrama · 23/04/2014 20:20

I try not to worry too much.

I can breathe so much better now, taste food, smell things clearly which isnt a good thing all the time and best of all i feel better in myself so i hope that means Ecigs are a safer alternative even if they arnt 100% safe.

BlueSkyCrystal · 23/04/2014 20:36

Thanks for the clearo link, Allergic Smile

magimedi · 23/04/2014 22:14

maggie - your mother is a woman of good taste!

NHS Choices on regulation & health wrt vaping. Lots of links - which I haven't followed. I'll just be pleased if I spend smoke less!

The vapour isn't 'steam'. It's water condensing around particles of glycol. Glycol is all over the place in nature, but not usually in the air. Nobody knows yet whether vaping will have any unwanted effects.

Am a little bit (OK, massively) pissed off to discover vapers are now expected to go outside to indulge. I know you meet all the nicest people in the smoking area, but FGS! If I weren't so broke, my only real motive to quit (OK, reduce) the fags would be social inclusion.

Already sighing deeply, I've taken delivery of my new kit, have charged one battery and just watched the refill videos to get started :)

Allergic, those clearos you linked to - and the coils sold by the same vendor - there's no wick in either, is there? Have I missed a bit of the assembly? Confused Which parts need replacing most often?

FlockOfTwats · 24/04/2014 00:29

Garlic If you mean the GS -H2s they have little tiny wicks. Because they sit at the bottom they don't need long wicks to soak the liquid up :)

Ohhhh has anyone tried Gummy bears from liberty flights? It's my new favourite. Also have some Minty the Toff from T-Juice :D Mmmmm.

Allergictoironing · 24/04/2014 06:29

Garlic as Flock says the wicks are tiny in bottom coil clearos, look like a little bit of fluff sticking out of the side of the coil.

Regarding replacement etc, it's another case of more hassle = less cost and vice versa, like so many things in vaping. Unless you're as clumsy as I can be on a bad day and keep dropping it, and are careful not to use known "tank cracker" liquids, the plastic tank part lasts near enough forever. The coil is the bit that dies quickest, the wicks would last a fair bit longer but should be replaced at the same time as the coil anyway.

So basically you have 3 levels of hassle vs costs. When the coil goes you can just throw away the whole clearo, which is what you have to do with the standard top coil non re-buildable CE4s that come standard with most starter kits. Most expensive option in this case, zero hassle.

Or you can buy replacement atomiser coil parts and swap those over when the coil dies. These parts are a bit cheaper than a whole new clearo, and aren't really any hassle to replace (at least not on the GS-H2s I use at the mo).

Or you can learn the arcane dark art of re-coiling and re-wicking which only costs you the wire for the coil and the wick, which is much cheaper but of course maximum hassle.

Shonajay · 24/04/2014 08:00

Maggie just got my liquid yesterday and they'd put in three clearomiser s for nothing!x
