This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Magi - more than welcome of course.

magimedi · 06/04/2014 08:22

Sole - it is definitely a different technique to smoking a real fag.

Two weeks today I stopped smoking cigarettes. I've become evangelistic about e cigs and am loving it. I'm so glad I found this section- last night I ordered refreshers, kola kisses and strawberry ice cream flavours, £38 but I'd spend that in less than a week on cigarettes. I ordered the large bottles from vape escape.

I'm addicted to vaping! Can we ask mums net if we can get out own section?

I've emailed and asked. Fingers crossed. I said if we had our own section,we could be found more easily x

BlueSkyCrystal · 06/04/2014 12:09

I like the idea of a vaping section, but then AIBU has so much traffic, I don't think I'd have found and read the thread which converted me if it hadn't been on this board.

And it makes me smile to read the titles here because so many people and policy makers DO think we are being unreasonable to vape Grin

I am loving the iClear 16B, but can't seem to find a U.K site which sells replacement coils / heads. Can anyone help, please?

Shonajoy · 06/04/2014 12:34

I see what you mean but it keeps slipping off the page of Aibu so people wouldn't find us anyway. Just an idea. Sorry can't help with coils I'm a newbie.

BlueSkyCrystal · 06/04/2014 12:43

That's a good point, Shona. It was pretty much always on the front page in the past.

A section would be easier because we could keep topics separate rather than having to trawl or CTRL F through looooong threads

BlueSkyCrystal · 06/04/2014 12:45

In fact, you've sold me. This thread takes ages to load on some of my devices as well. Will mail HQ myself later Grin

My fast tech order has finally turned up after a 6 week wait so Dh has got his new Ego C CE5 kit.

One of the batteries doesnt work and the bloody charger was faulty so very disappointed but i have had a revelation and switched my Totally wicked EGo C twist battery onto the CE5 cartomiser/clearomiser that came with Dhs kit!

I dont think i realised just how shit the TW Ego twist was until i tried his, so i've now officially pinched his spare and am just using the TW battery.

Its much smoother and a far better vape so all in all i am happy even though the order was a bit of a disaster Smile

slartybartfast · 06/04/2014 12:48

i used a vaperiser with a atomiser,I think these are the right names, in which you coudl change the wick.
but after 6 months the atomiser doesnt work,
got a whole new vaperiser - cheap - but it doesnt seem to ahve changeable wick.
can anyone recommend an atomiser with changeable wick, or cheap atomisers?

Shonajoy · 06/04/2014 13:05

Thanks bluesky! It's a health issue and is So popular now I thin it deserves its own space.

Did I mention I'm two weeks off the fags ;0)! This is the FIRST time I've made it this far without thinking up excuses. I want a cupboard full of spares and flavours so I'm never stuck. Happy happy happy!x

Well done to all quitters!!

I'm now at 18 months - I can hardly believe it myself!

My only reservation about a separate section of vaping is that it could get very lost in the vastness of the MN talk boards.

This is our 4th thread in 6 months & it's been pretty high up in AIBU for most of that time. There are enough of us who direct people here when we see questions about vaping in chat or other threads.

And I don't think that any of use mind repeating ourselves & converting others to vaping - we are all of the mind that more the better!

I am about to start our fifth thread & will come back & link this one to it!

whatadrama - fasttech are pretty good with returns for stuff that doesn't work. They have a support ticket system which I believe Queen has used in the past.

See you over on the new thread!

Shonajoy · 06/04/2014 16:46

Hank you blue sky! I can hardly believe it myself. Before, at two weeks I'd be making excuses, I would just smoke if I drank, all that. I've had two evenings out and not been bothered at all. This is it, never going back x

How's is everyone doing.
