This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Thanks queenstromba and also for the juice advice sounds lovely. I'm vaping red energy at the moment- delicious.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/04/2014 20:51

Shonajoy · 04/04/2014 21:03

Thankyou pubegardens! Was so gutted, got a couple of cheapies but had waited ten days for this. I'm now in love....

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/04/2014 21:07

Wow shona, that's some shopping accident Grin

I've been thinking of getting some 24mg to see if I can put the thing down a bit more inbetween puffs. I might be interested but need to get rid of some of the ones I'm not using first. We're having a big sort through of stuff tomorrow so might be up for a swap - what strength are you using at the moment?

QueenStromba · 04/04/2014 21:10

I'm so impressed with smoke rainbow - I ordered on Tuesday and it arrived today from Estonia. They sent me some small pipettes and a random extra sample as well as the ones I ordered. It's so nice to be able to try a load of flavours for less than a quid a go. So far all of the T juice flavours are amazing. I'm so glad thad Flavour Art sold out because otherwise I wouldn't have tried them.

QueenStromba · 04/04/2014 21:27

If anyone cares, Jack the Ripple tastes exactly like raspberry ripple ice cream.

Allergictoironing · 04/04/2014 21:35

Damn you Queen, I was trying to avoid ordering any more juice and you HAD to say Jack the Ripple tastes exactly like raspberry ripple ice cream

QueenStromba · 04/04/2014 22:12

Sorry Allergic! If you love raspberry ripple ice cream then you'll be glad I made you buy it though!

The best clearos do have replacable coils EatShitDerek. You can probably get better for the price online though. For the same price you can get two iclear 16s which are, in my opinion, the best small tank.

Shonajoy · 04/04/2014 22:14

Pubegardens I'm on 18 at the mo. I really don't need anything in return though, no worries.

collielover · 04/04/2014 23:00

Sorry if this has been asked before but can anyone recommend a tobacco flavoured juice that is fairly authentic tasting? The one I have at the moment is from the local garage and is just too sweet .

Also your recommendations for online buying . Thank you .

Cantabile · 04/04/2014 23:08

I do like my iClear 16s. They do use up juice quicker than I was used to, but it's worth it, imo.

I shall be looking throu my juices tomorrow too. There will doubtless be several going. Swap shop!!

Thanks for advice on the charger. The problem is that what he's got is obviously very cheap and he doesn't want to do that again, he wants to spend more and get quality Hmm not sure that's possible without a bit of trial and error. It was a bit silly of him to get this massive piece of kit just because... Is going for the biggest thing you can find a man thing?

And I am another whose ears pricked at the words "raspberry ripple"!

Shonajoy · 04/04/2014 23:38

Collielover I have a couple cos I thought I'd want tobacco flavour but I really don't. I've got breakfast blend and tobacco caramel if u want em

Allergictoironing · 05/04/2014 07:21

collielover most people seem to recommend the Hangsen RY4 as a reasonably authentic tobacco flavour, available from many of the on line shops like vaping cision, Premiere ecig - plenty of places stock that range. I use Smartcigs Red tobacco, mainly because it's the first one I tried that I really like and can get it cheaper than retail as I know the people who make it.

Queen don't know if you've linked the place you got the raspberry ripple from before, but if you could link it again I'd be very grateful. Also, a while back you kindly told me which the compatible coils/atomisers are for the GS-H2, and I can't find that post now (gods I'm getting scatty at the mo).

magimedi · 05/04/2014 08:48

collie I use The Sherlock from www.ecigwizard.com

It's one of the very few flavours I like - I only like tobacco as I find all the others too sweet.

Led here. New name, same obsession with vaping Smile

OMG I have just tried the Cinnamon Swirl from Rainbow. It's gorgeous. Too weak for me at 12, but Flavour Vapour do something similar and stronger. I'm going to be in real trouble if all of my samplers are as nice.

That or Shock reduce my nicotine level!

Shonajoy · 05/04/2014 18:45

Guys how do you carry your e cig? Mine seems like it would leak all over my handbag and I've lost the cover thing - which doesn't seem very effective anyway.

BlueSkyCrystal · 05/04/2014 18:53

Mine goes upright in the phone bit of my bag, which is a bit annoying when I need to find my phone. They should start designing bags for vapers.

Katie has a vaping jacket with a handy pocket Grin

collielover · 05/04/2014 19:09

Thanks for the info Shona,Allergic and Medi much appreciated .
Off to look online now .

magimedi · 05/04/2014 19:41

Bluesky - I think exactly the same as you!

We are going to have to start a new thread soon - can't believe how many peeps have joined us!

Allergic - may I quote your useful summary again at the start of a new thread?

An anyone recommend good places to buy online? I need to restock since darling daughter has joined in, and would like to buy most of it from the one place postage wise.

SoleSource · 05/04/2014 23:40

I have been vaping incorrectly. I sucked but I find it better to slowly breeeathe it in, better throat hit.
