To think psychics are all fakes?

I don't like that they take peoples money when they are in a vulnerable place, lost loved ones etc. It's immoral. Just my opinion.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Agreed. Have you ever watched 'Psychic Sally on the road'?

I did, once. The woman's a charlatan.

MsJupiterJones · 11/12/2013 08:36

Yanbu.

Rockinhippy · 11/12/2013 08:38

Not all take money & not all are fakes, so a bit too much of a sweeping statement fir my liking

Though sadly enough are fakes who are very money orientated & sadly get genuine psychic mediums a bad name, so though I disagree, I do see where you get your bias from

Lj8893 · 11/12/2013 08:40

I have a friend who's a psychic. He doesn't make any money out of it though. He does it for friends etc and does the odd charity event.

myroomisatip · 11/12/2013 08:42

YABU

ScarletLady02 · 11/12/2013 08:42

I think anyone who takes money is a fake...I know a few people who feel they have a gift of some sort...they don't charge.

Generally I feel if people want to make money out of it then they exploit vulnerable people just to make money.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 08:44

Ok, I apologise for sweeping statement about them all taking money.

I find it even more offensive that some do it for their 'friends' though. That really takes the biscuit.

Although, for the friends, it may give them comfort, hope etc... so nice side to it there, but still, lying to their friends faces about communication from loved ones passed on? Don't know how they can look them in the eye tbh.

curlew · 11/12/2013 08:46

They're not all fakes. Some are genuinely deluded.

hareinthemoon · 11/12/2013 08:46

None of the psychics I have met would say that they lie. At all. That wouldn't be their self-perception.

pinkdelight · 11/12/2013 08:49

People lie to themselves all the time. Yanbu.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 08:49

That's interesting 'hareinthemoon'

Some genuinely believe they are doing it? Yes?

This link is good.

HermioneWeasley · 11/12/2013 08:49

Agree, some are deluded. Some think their intuitive cold reading skills are true psychic gift.

curlew · 11/12/2013 08:52

We are all instinctive "cold readers". Some of us are better at it than others.

Lj8893 · 11/12/2013 08:57

Ahh yeah I agree with the whole passing on communication with loved ones etc. my friend doesn't do that, but he does see bits of the future (or maybe its just really good guesses but he's never been wrong with me)

He told my mil that on the 1st march she would find out she was expecting a dgc. We found out we were expecting on the 1st march (didn't know he had told her that either.)

He told me I was having a girl and she would be born 28th oct (he didn't know my due date was the 27th) and she was.

He told me I was going to move back to the village I grew up in. A month later we were offered a HA house in that village which we are now living in.

There's lots of other things he's said that have been true.

vtechjazz · 11/12/2013 08:58

rocking, do you honestly believe some are real? Seriously???

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 09:00

Never seen psychic sally on the road financeprincess

Seen lots of most haunted though. It makes me LOL.

OP posts:
Rockinhippy · 11/12/2013 09:05

No vtech - I know some have a genuine gift for it Wink

Not getting into any debates on it, CBA I answered the OPs question that's all, but we all have different life experiences that bring us to where we are, mine have proven to me that this can be genuine, in a way not possible to fake - have met the fakes too though & they make me Angry too

ANormalOne · 11/12/2013 09:05

No one can talk to the dead they are ALL fakes.

expatinscotland · 11/12/2013 09:08

YANBU

MrsMook · 11/12/2013 09:08

I think there's some people with a genuine ability, and some frauds out there. So for saying all are fakes, YABU.

ANormalOne · 11/12/2013 09:09

Learn to be a psychic in 10 easy steps, then you too can con grieving people out of their money.

Flisspaps · 11/12/2013 09:14

That touring Sally did a performance near me recently.

She 'heard' from a boy who was recently killed by a hit and run driver, she couldn't have found most of the info from googling the local paper and Facebook pages dedicated to him, oh no Hmm

And not one, but TWO people at the show had been involved with the tragedy in one way or another. Hardly a surprise, everyone knows everyone's business in my town.

I think it's appalling that the grief of a family was exploited for entertainment value and money.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 11/12/2013 09:16

Hasn't Derren Brown shown that anyone can learn to 'cold read' people?

Yes they're all fakes, or as someone else said, deluded. You hear what you want to hear.

MaidOfStars · 11/12/2013 09:16

Load of bobbins.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 09:19

See that's the thing, lots of info on everyone on the internet these days, lots of people on facebook with not everything set to private.

They often will be recommended by one person to other members of the family, so their knowledge of the family builds and they get 'better'.

Very underhand.
